Cyprus - from May those with 2 vaccinations can holiday freely

Knew it would end up a two tier travel system!

More sitting at home and sucking it up for the rest of us!

It's that country's choice what they do. We don't get to say what they can and can't do.

And it may be that unvaccinated people can get a test instead - many holiday companies are already building these into their price packages, as are a number of resorts.

I've had one vaccine and will probably have had a second sometime in May. Dh won't have had both vaccines by then though as he hasn't had a first yet, so not like I'll be booking.

I don't particularly begrudge older people, health care and nhs staff and CEV people their holiday travel a few weeks before me though.

Tbh I'm just hoping we can go to Scotland at May half term so I don't have to move my holiday yet again!

frozendaisy · 05/03/2021 13:30

@RichardMarxisinnocent

So the kids will be in masks in schools, no practical lessons, whilst some seniors are sipping beer on a Cyprus beach?

You do realise it isn't just "seniors" who will have have two vaccine doses by then? Plenty of NHS staff and CEV people of all ages will have too - will you complain if they choose to go on holiday, or do you reserve your anger for elderly people?

I don't care who goes on holiday. I thought we were emerging as a society together.

What is unfair is one part of society can travel cramped together for a jolly in the sun whilst another group cannot use a bunsen burner because it's still "not safe".

peak2021 · 05/03/2021 13:30

It is Cyprus's choice though I think some or even most other countries will follow.

Sallycinnamum · 05/03/2021 13:38

God the blatant ageism on this site gets worse and worse.

I hope pensioners do get to go abroad and enjoy their holidays. I fully intend to get away in the summer if I can and if I have to pay for a test there and back so be it.

The unrelenting hatred towards pensioners on here is sickening.

notrub · 05/03/2021 13:42

Wow - I cannot believe the self-centred whining taking place on this thread.

Over 150k people have died this last year. Over a million people will have lost a loved one, or in many cases more than one.

And people are bleating because they won't be able to take a foreign holiday quite as soon as someone else!?? Life is soooo unfair isn't it.

GET A GRIP! Stop feeling sorry for yourselves, and be grateful that your father/mother/husband/wife hasn't died prematurely or had to give up their career due to long-covid.

Throwntothewolves · 05/03/2021 13:46

Other countries can impose any conditions they want, it's nothing to do with the UK governments current vaccination programme, nor is it a 'two tier system'. If anything it may put pressure on the UK government to do more to allow people freedom of movement, which is either a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it

Beaniecats · 05/03/2021 13:47

Two tier system
Grossly unfair

CavernousScream · 05/03/2021 13:52

I suppose we can all look forward to the fourth wave in the autumn, when a load of vaccinated over 70s have enjoyed unrestricted travel without quarantine and brought back some new vaccine-evading Cyprus variant. I don’t care about the unfairness of who gets to go on holiday (that’s never been equal, has it? Some people can’t afford it or are too sick to travel). But when there are vaccine evading variants, allowing quarantine free travel is just stupid.

Cornettoninja · 05/03/2021 13:54

Cheer up OP, maybe one of the mutations will render the vaccines defunct and no one will be able to go anywhere for even longer...

It’s not a two tier society in any meaningful way. Everyone is going to have access to the vaccine this year and all being well with it’s real world performance we will all have the same access to everything. A lot of people who have received their vaccinations in the last few months have received them because they fall into groups that would likely preclude them from jetting off at the best of times but certainly not without the support of people who haven’t been vaccinated yet. Yes there will be a significant number who can take advantage of meeting any travel relaxations but quite frankly sometimes life just isn’t fair (as I say to my 5 year old quite a lot).

No one is burning your passport, you just have to wait a bit longer.

Quite. I'm sure the whingers will be a lot happier when no one can go anywhere. At least that's "fair" isn't it?

It's like when a train is cancelled because the only disabled toilet becomes out of use. Everyone has to suffer, but apparently that's better than it being unfair on a disabled person (if there even is one onboard).

Life isn't "fair". Get over it and move on.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 05/03/2021 13:57

Which is a perfectly valid viewpoint, but your singling out of seniors did seem rather ageist.

Also, we have no idea what the situation will be like by May. Perhaps enough people will have been vaccinated and rates low enough that schools can go back to normal.

mumonthehill · 05/03/2021 14:00

As I understand it if not vaccinated then you will need to test prior to going. We have a summer wedding to go to in Cyprus, one of us will have had both jabs, one will have had 1, 2 will have had none. I am guessing 3 of us will need to test. This is all dependent on UK travel restrictions.

Frequentflier · 05/03/2021 14:02

I am often amazed by the way British people think they have the right to go anywhere at any time they choose. The rest of us less privileged folk realise that countries will make their own rules, and at least this year, British people will have to endure what brown and black people have always done: long waits for visas, expensive tests, endless paperwork. Try asking an African person how hard it is for him or her to enter the UK, even for a professional conference.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/03/2021 14:11

I think we might still be struggling with the whole ‘different countries have different policies’ and the English don’t make the rules for everyone. Frequentflier That combined with the concept that policies in the U.K. might have further reaching consequences that affect the way other countries act towards you.

I'm not sure how I feel about it & get see both sides. Personally I want to go abroad sooner rather than later to see family but won't have the vaccine until later.
But can we not do the whole you can't complain & just be grateful if you're not unemployed, homeless or dead shtick!

sanfranfibber · 05/03/2021 14:15

My god get over it. Of everything that has happened in the past year, its a couple of months between travel reopening and you having two vaccines. It really does not matter in the grand scheme of things.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 05/03/2021 14:20

Cyprus and all county's trying to impose this will soon beg people to come when the holiday makers refuse to holiday there. You do not need to prove anything, this is outrageous and I m shocked that we all just sit back and take so much shit and do nothing about it.

Blackmail and coercive control is illegal unless you are a government who freely do it to their citizens and get away with it.

Frequentflier · 05/03/2021 14:20

Sorry, I know I sound very sour. DH has had his first shot because he is CV, I will have to wait a while, but I frankly think we are lucky to get vaccinated at all.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 05/03/2021 14:22

You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time...but you can't please all of the people all of the time 🤷‍♀️

How do you feel about countries which require yellow fever vaccination certificates for visitors?
bungobango · 05/03/2021 14:50

They better not bring SA variant or any other back home.

Vargas · 05/03/2021 14:55

I don't get this, is the argument that no one can have fun unless everyone can have fun?

Good luck to the double vaccinated, I hope they have a lovely time...

QueenPaw · 05/03/2021 14:57

@Vargas it's funny because when I said some people have been shielding for a year on another thread, people said oh so we have to stay in too, does everyone have to be miserable?
Now I could go to Cyprus somehow that's not fair Hmm because hang on, we should all be equal...

EasterIssland · 05/03/2021 15:00

For those wondering about kids , some countries won’t ask for a pcr below x age. Some others will request a pcr for all kids. It means if your child isn’t vaccinated then it needs a pcr as you’d as well if you weren’t vaccinated or only had 1 dose
