Reasons to be cheerful, March edition: According to the Telegraph, aka the Tory intranet, 40s vaccination is a couple of weeks away, and right on target: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/03/01/over-40s-covid-vaccines-rollout-track-begin-month/ (paywall, but the headline says it all)

Good news for those of us in our prime (cough ahem) Wine Brew

Over 60’s - you do not have to wait to get a letter!!! Book online now. Stop waiting. They’ve called everyone up this morning however you could actually book from last week. Thanks to mumsnet for the heads up as my 62 year old MIL got hers last Thursday by booking online!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 13:26

@moggiek if you are registered with a GP in England, book here, you dont need to be called:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

FlyingBurrito · 01/03/2021 13:26

@moggiek

I’m 62. Not been called yet.
I assume you were actually typing when @WombatChocolate posted, read her post and all the others above

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE CALLED, aaaaarrrgggh Smile

toomanypillows · 01/03/2021 13:26

It might be area dependent but I'm group 6 and in my 40s and I booked online and had my vaccination at a mass hub 2 weeks ago.
So they're not all being run by the GPs

MoirasRoses · 01/03/2021 13:27

@moggiek- book online now. You do not have to wait to be called specifically. Get onto the NHS website & you’ll get your vaccine this week most likely!

How are so many people missing the news this morning 😫

mumwalk · 01/03/2021 13:28

Plenty of people in their 60s not been called yet here, never mind those in their 50s.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 13:29
Grin I sense some frustration @FlyingBurrito

I do think that the government should be plastering adverts all over the place telling people how to get their jabs and who is next up in line. The message clearly isnt being heard. I want to start driving up and down through our local town with a megaphone and let people know.

Stickytreacle · 01/03/2021 13:30

I can echo people are able to book themselves in if they are in an eligible group, excluding gp referred group 6. I booked online with no issues and received an invite latter days later. I keep trying to book my dh who is 57, not eligible yet but won't be long!
I think they'll be whizzing through them soon, the plan is to do a million a day, so hopefully all done for summer, fingers crossed!

picknmix1984 · 01/03/2021 13:30

As deaths are linked so closely to age I really think they should make sure all those in older age groups are vaccinated first before they do 40 year olds!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 13:30

@mumwalk can you please let those people know that this is how you book: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 01/03/2021 13:31

The over 60s posters on here might not live in a part of the U.K. where you can book online.

You think!

Shall we all set up a shouty post to reply to everyone who has lost the ability to read the posts above theirs? Grin

Darwinism in action it seems

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 13:33

I’m not sure people are reading the thread.

It has been said countless times that you don’t need a letter to book. It has been said countless times that anyone over 60 can book online NOW.

And for anyone else, a month of 31 days is a very long time in a fast moving vaccine world. We might be in groups 5/6/7 at the moment, but remember group 7 (60-64) isn’t that huge and when 2.5 million or more are done a week, we will be in a very different position in 31 days, and the fact you haven’t been done YET in group 6 or in group 5 or 7, doesn’t mean those groups won’t be completed very soon and group 8 and 9 may we’ll be being done soon or later this month.

Thing are moving very fast and can speed up as they have more vaccine and younger age groups are more able to travel to the mass centres.

They key is to keep up with what is going on and go online when your age group is being called (and check regularly to see if the system lets you through because it often will a couple of days before the front page is updated...this isn’t queue jumping...the system won’t let you book if not eligible) and BOOK AND GET DONE AS SOON AS YOU CAN. Don’t wait for letters....they are lagging by days or weeks and there is no need to wait.

If people keep looking online (50s likely in next week or so) then they can book sooner and get vaccinated sooner and all the other groups can get done sooner too. Don’t delay.

If you’re 60 or over, look now and book. If you have relatives in that category who are saying they haven’t heard, get them on the website and do it or do it with them/for them.

Only group 6 with colinical conditions need to wait for a direct call/text and any of 60 or above can book based on age anyway and don’t need to wait.

HasaDigaEebowai · 01/03/2021 13:33

I wish they would just publicise that you don't have to wait for a letter/call and can just book yourself in. I look on the system for our area for a relative and you can see that there are loads of slots going free. Today there are 12 slots at our closest centre and dozens in our general area. People need to take the initiative to speed things along.

There's a difference between being invited for a vaccine and actually taking up that invitation. They will make sure the older age groups have been invited of course before moving down the age brackets, but there's only so long they can wait if people don't book an appointment. The invitation also doesn't expire so once you're eligible, you're eligible even after they move down the priority groups.

So staff sit doing nothing and premises sit empty in areas that are ahead to wait for other areas catch up? Where's the sense in that?
OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2021 13:34

FlyingBurrito I even set up an AIBU and being practically ignored!

There will always be regional variations, it would be quite wrong to stop areas moving to lower catagories just because all areas hadn't finished the higher ones.

A 40 year old in Leeds having a jab isnt taking it away from an 80 year in Brighton- is that what you're suggesting?

WombatChocolate · 01/03/2021 13:36

Pcknmix, they are working based on priority order. However, if people do t actually book their appointment when eligible, the whole system isn’t going to stop and wait for them.

65 plus have been able to book online for many days now. Some haven’t booked and so the system is now letting 60s book. The system will follow up anyone who hasn’t booked, but it takes time and the who,e system doesn’t stop to wait for them.....that would mean it takes far long er to do everyone.

People need to keep looking at the national booking site and book when they are eligibile to secure their own fastest vaccine and help the system move onto younger people.

MeolsCop · 01/03/2021 13:41

Yup Grin

Reiterating that if you're over 60 in England you can now go onto the NHS vaccine site and book your jab. A friend told me this last week (having been given the info by a relative who's a GP).

I'm in Group 7 and wasn't actually expecting it to work as it seemed slightly too good to be true - but I'm now all booked in for this week at my local hospital which is within walking distance (was given a good choice of dates, times and venues), AND they also booked in my second dose at the same place.

It takes a couple of minutes.

LoveYourUsername · 01/03/2021 13:42

Have they tried booking via website? I understand you don't need to wait for a letter to book online if you're over 60

I'm not sure it's that simple.

I've had mine, 2 weeks ago, but looked online having read this thread.

It says that 'over 60s' can book online but in the next sentence is say 'you must be 64 or over'.

So which is it?

LoveYourUsername · 01/03/2021 13:45

The booking via the NHS if you re 60 or over is very new- a search shows this is only starting this week. So it's not surprising that many people are unaware.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 01/03/2021 13:47

I don’t know which page you’re looking at LoveYourUsername but when I click on the links I get an unambiguous “60 or over”

Over 40s will be called for vaccines this month
MatHancockLovesMyTits · 01/03/2021 13:47

End of April at the earliest for us in Wales Hmm

merrymouse · 01/03/2021 13:49

Presumably the rate of vaccination will either slow down or resources will need to increase dramatically in March/April because people will also be being called for 2nd vaccines?
