@LockdownIsDragging - It depends how much of the world get vaccinated, how well variant vaccines work and whether further mutations have more tricks... ideally I'd hope it's just sewage testing until there's a case that's an issue. Not that sewage tests are ever reported on so nobody knows where the UK project has got to (grumble grumble). Maybe bursts of overseas traveller testing.

MRex · 05/03/2021 19:30

@bathsh3ba

I didn't watch it live so it may just have been BBC reporting but did they seem to be moving away from talking about cases today?
Only because they don't know what the case numbers are hahaha.

@littleowl1 - Yes, numbers are delayed, PHE case data issue.

littleowl1 · 05/03/2021 19:33

@MRex Thank you for confirming....
phhhh.... late one for me then... was hoping for a celebratory "end of homeschooling" drink on zoom.
Never mind........

wintertravel1980 · 05/03/2021 19:58

Zoe numbers continue to look good. The daily estimated transmission rate is down to 7,561.

ancientgran · 05/03/2021 20:18

On the local news they reported 45% of adults in Devon have had the vaccine. That seemed high to me considering they are saying July for everyone to have it. Is Devon doing really well, are they expecting it to slow down or am I not getting something?

ancientgran · 05/03/2021 20:19

Just thinking has Devon done a high percentage as we have alot of older people?

MRex · 05/03/2021 20:25

@ancientgran

Just thinking has Devon done a high percentage as we have alot of older people?
Probably. My area had only done 20% recently and has a small elderly population.

Where are these cases today? I'll try again in the hopes of being right one time. The cases look too low, so PHE don't believe them and have IT re-running the links instead of asking scientists at the labs what they think.

Frazzled2207 · 05/03/2021 20:33

ooh that's good still not fully up my end

ancientgran · 05/03/2021 20:50

@MRex thanks, I was getting all excited thinking everyone would be done by May at that rate.

MRex · 05/03/2021 20:57

Blue is massively in retreat on the map. It's been driven into the central (rainy wet!) parts of the UK, but even there it's clinging on with a lot of areas 100-120 cases per week. I feel very positive.

CornishYarg · 05/03/2021 20:59

Daily number of tests reported today is nearly 1m Shock

Doomsdayiscoming · 05/03/2021 21:02

Hospitalisations continue to be crushed.

22.5% down for the week. So as I predicted earlier in the week, we are likely go to see almost 30% less for the week (Sat to Sat). This will be one of the highest (maybe highest) weekly fall since the pandemic.

The end of the end.

Doomsdayiscoming · 05/03/2021 21:03

Week so far* one day more to come

MRex · 05/03/2021 21:04
@MRex thanks, I was getting all excited thinking everyone would be done by May at that rate.
Between kids (21%), people who can't be vaccinated (say 4%), people who won't be vaccinated (yet; say maybe 5%, mostly younger), people who won't be vaccinated (for a long time / ever, say 5%)... I approximate 35%. So it'll be close enough to everyone who wants it. If there is a big third wave in Europe, we may reduce the 10% refusers. For kids, hard to say when their vaccine will be available, last I saw was September which seems so far away!

ThrowawaySecondarySchool · 05/03/2021 21:05

Almost certainly a result of schools testing. We don't test until Monday, but lots were going testing at the end of this week.
sirfredfredgeorge · 05/03/2021 21:20

I think it looks likely that May is doable, sadly (as we discussed for because there are countries with over 60's who likely won't even have had their first dose by then), but certainly the purchasing of vaccines, even though at higher prices than other countries has been a very good decision and well executed on the production ramp up help.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/03/2021 21:23

Yup, there are ten million school students and staff being tested at present. Plus their households, potentially. All to be done twice a week from now on, at least, that's the aim.

Doomsdayiscoming · 05/03/2021 21:37

It’s just funny they are so behind the curve. This is what should have been happening in September. School testing, control of borders through Autumn/Winter.

And yet again they are behind the curve on reopening. How few people need to be in hospital before they realise this phase is done?

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/03/2021 21:40

Sorry have just realised my figure is wrong because no primary school children are being tested under this scheme.

So maybe more like 5.5 million (guessing)

Doomsdayiscoming · 05/03/2021 21:44

The UK figure might not have updated, but it’ll be sub 10,000 when the kids go back.

Doomsdayiscoming · 05/03/2021 21:44

TheSunIsStillShining · 05/03/2021 21:48

680k lfts yesterday in England. Guessing today is similar.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 05/03/2021 21:56

I believe the current aim is to offer vaccines to all over 50s by April 2nd.
