Anyone in their 50s (no health issues) getting theirs yet?

I know 3 people in their mid 50s who have been given appointments (next week or so) for their first jab. No health issues or partners/family in risk groups.

Are they that far down the list already?

@time4anothername

those who booked via the central link and are younger than 64 etc, was it OK when you turned up? Was anyone turned away for being too young?
I'm pretty sure they're not going to turn you away if you're booked! Their role is not to gatekeep.

I had a text from my surgery yesterday and am booked in tomorrow - 39 y.o. and no underlying conditions, just take a mild dose of sertraline. No idea why but as someone else said the surgeries get paid for every vaccine administered so I can only assume they’ve just been super efficient

timegoesbysoslowly · 27/02/2021 21:46

I'm 49 (50 in 25 days 😭) not heard anything and worried I'll get missed.

Did get invited for a free flu jab in January as was 50 which I ignored as was insulted as not 50 quite yet.

Dreading my birthday, last year was first full day off lockdown and was a strange day and thought next year can't be worse erm... think I'll get drunk

RubyTrees · 27/02/2021 23:13

DH and I (mid-fifties with no underlying health conditions) had ours on 20th Feb. We weren't expecting to have it until late March/April but our surgery called us last week and said they were booking us in. Most of the people in the queue seemed to be in their 50s.

There are 2 local vaccination centres and one seems to be doing the over 60s and the other the over 50s.

WombatChocolate · 27/02/2021 23:15

I think that within 4 weeks, many areas will have done groups 1-9.

When we look back on it in a few years, we won’t remember if we had it next week or in 3 weeks time. A few days feels so important at the moment and there’s far too much comparing of people and areas and people fearing being left behind, it the reality is everywhere can’t and won’t go at the exact same speed. At least we know there’s enough vaccine and everyone in these forums will be done in 4-6 weeks and it could be sooner. It really isn’t long now and the further down the list we go, the less and less risk there is for those still unvaccinated.

AlwaysLatte · 27/02/2021 23:31

My brother had his a couple of weeks ago, mid fifties and no health issues or work based criteria.

Underbrella · 27/02/2021 23:55

DP had a call yesterday to book in for his this evening. He's 48, no health concerns, wfh since lockdown 1 and doesn't leave the house except to go for a run or take the kids to the park. Not sure if we're just super-speedy here (NW England) or if he was called in error. I really wish it wasn't such a lottery and that those who need it worldwide could be vaccinated first but the reason its so speedy is that we're just ploughing through everyone so there seems little point turning the appt down.

MiddlesexGirl · 28/02/2021 00:35

Locally some are still on 65s but most are well into the 60s.

bigbird1969 · 28/02/2021 00:42

Our local vaccination centre called me early on a sunday evening looking for DH who is in the high risk group. He was in hospital so they asked if I fancied popping down for the vaccine. There were young and old there waiting.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/02/2021 00:49

I'm 51, had mine as I work in care.

phlebasconsidered · 28/02/2021 06:58

Where I live they are still on 65's. I wish they'd get a shift on as i'm a 49 year old asthmatic teacher who will have a full class back in a week.

Mn753 · 28/02/2021 07:46

Announcement for over 60s to book online with a message that over 50s will be called shortly. The national booking system always seems a bit ahead though so I'd be interested if it lets over 50s book.

Pimlicojo · 28/02/2021 08:05

Wombatchocolate Very wise words. Everyone I know is grateful to have been called for the vaccine and pleased for others. I had a few friends younger than me who received invitations; within a week I had mine.

BobsDouble · 28/02/2021 08:09

My brother had his a few days ago and he’s 44. He has no idea why he was offered it but was delighted.

zxy12 · 28/02/2021 15:12

@yearinyearout

I have some other health issues too but I can’t imagine they will have pushed me up the list.

You'd be surprised. Mild and well controlled asthma doesn't get you into group six but there are plenty of other health issues (even if you only suffered with them briefly as a child) that will get you on it.

It can be quite tricky to determine whether you fall into some of the Group 6 conditions. I've had rheumatoid arthritis since a child (still under a consultant for it) which is one of the conditions specified in the group 6 at risk categories. I appreciate that arthritis sufferers taking immunosuppressants are absolutely more at risk, and many fall in the CEV group category.

The GP receptionist thought I'd qualify but the surgery manager said I didn't after I'd provided the necessary paperwork. It's not an issue as I don't want to jump the queue if I'm not eligible. But it was a bit confusing. I'm late 40s so hopefully I'll get invited at some point in the next few months...

Mn753 · 01/03/2021 07:38

Wonder if the national booking system will open up further this week

errorofjudgement · 01/03/2021 07:48

I’m 56 and just tried the National booking but it wouldn’t let me book.
Guess our area is not as far ahead as some of the others - (west country)

Scarby9 · 01/03/2021 07:52

Only done a week of Over 65s round us, so I'm not expecting over 50s for a couple more weeks.
Retirement area - lots of over 60s and carers.

sleepwouldbenice · 01/03/2021 08:03

Some people don't realise that the reason they are called is their BMI....

Blessex · 01/03/2021 08:10

All the over 50s on my street have been done. No underlying conditions. Some only just turned 50. We are racing through. They say 40s should be called within the month. If some areas are going quicker than others then please just crack on. To try and logistically level up will simply slow everything down.

I think most people with a high BMI are well aware that their BMI is high. Lots of areas in the NW have simply reached the 50’s age group
LoudestCat14 · 01/03/2021 08:35

A male friend of ours has, north London. Turned 50 last year, no underlying health issues.

Not true. Our friend is as skinny as a rake!

Yeah noone would notice that their BMI was 40+ Hmm

My DH is having his on Thurs. 51, no underlying conditions GP surgery told him they're down to 50 age group now. North West

LIZS · 01/03/2021 08:40

@sleepwouldbenice

BMI 40+ is pretty self evident and often accompanies other risk factors. Even in our local area a neighbouring surgery is at 50+ whereas others are on group 6. It depends on demographics and capacity at different venues.
