Scottish announcement

Anyone else feeling deflated? It feels like England were given hope yesterday and we've not been given much. My area has basically been in lockdown (tier 3 or 4) since October. I do understand the need for caution and I suspect the English dates won't be met, but I'm scunnered tbh.

In england but what was the outcome for Scotland?

Justmuddlingalong · 23/02/2021 14:39

The update consisted of a big fat fuck all.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 23/02/2021 14:39

More or less the same as England, only on a provisional schedule that is 1-2 weeks behind. Nothing as silly as an 'it'll all be magically over by X date' proclamation, but the timeframe isn't too different.

BMHM · 23/02/2021 14:40

I feel deflated too, I thought it would be this way so I was reluctant to watch. I cried with relief watching Boris last night even though it doesn't apply to me! But we've basically been given a crumb and told to come back for the rest later. I was hoping school return would be sooner too. My children are both primary but I really feel for secondary pupils.

ashmts · 23/02/2021 14:48

As far as I could gather, current restrictions until start of April, then back to tiers by area. They're saying economy to open up by end of April, but at best we were in tier 3 at the end of last year. That was pubs and restaurants open but no alcohol and only till 6pm. The thought that that's likely our best case scenario in the near future is miserable. Also a 5 mile travel restriction which means I can't see my family, even outdoors. They don't even live far away!

I think the tone of her announcement didn't hit the right notes, not after Boris yesterday. We need a bit more. I'm not one to use mental health as an excuse but there's going to be a massive crisis. I find myself flinching when I have to be near someone, even with a mask. I'm a healthy, vaccinated 30 year old! It's not right.

Same. Deflated.

brokengate · 23/02/2021 14:50

Same, feel done.

Amortentia · 23/02/2021 14:52

I was very shocked by PMs announcement yesterday. I think he gave false hope. I much prefer this cautious approach by the FM. Let's see how the next few weeks go and then we might get a more realistic framework.

Scarling · 23/02/2021 14:53

I understand the cautiousness but I'm feeling very deflated too.

midnightstar66 · 23/02/2021 14:55

Would you rather be promised all sorts then have it taken away once you were looking forward to it, like Boris did with Christmas. Better to be realistic and cautious

goodname · 23/02/2021 14:56

It’s pretty depressing

dementedpixie · 23/02/2021 14:57

I don't see a 5 mile travel restriction. Was there ever one?

goodname · 23/02/2021 14:57

I wonder how long they can prevent us travelling to England though, if at all once the stay at home restrictions are lifted?

Orangeblossom1977 · 23/02/2021 14:57

Nothing as silly as an 'it'll all be magically over by X date' proclamation

The dates aren't just plucked from the air, it is based on vaccine rollout covering the adult population by certain dates...

Scotland seem to be expecting a slightly slower rollout (it has been to start with) and are aiming for all adults to be vaccinated by July, England for June...

PivotPivotPivottt · 23/02/2021 14:58

Very deflated. I don't mind waiting being cautious is better than rushing in but she presents it in such a negative and depressing way its hard to feel positive. Back to tiers as well Sad

ashmts · 23/02/2021 15:01

Examples of reasonable excuses to go out:

Exercise can start and finish at a place in your local authority area (or up to 5 miles from its boundary), but you should travel no further than you need to reach to a safe, non-crowded place to exercise in a physically distanced way.

That applies now. I'm pretty sure it applied in tier 3 too? But I've lost track.

ParkheadParadise · 23/02/2021 15:01

Better to be realistic I suppose.

I feel I've been in lockdown for so long I forget what normal life is like.
I think it was October when I was last in a pub

Contemplatinglife · 23/02/2021 15:03

Totally scunnered. Having spoken to a few different people over the last couple of weeks everyone’s really had enough this time. I’m in an area that previously had very low levels so when the pubs did open we had folk coming from higher tiers coming for day trips. It’ll be the same again no doubt

BMHM · 23/02/2021 15:04

Also so depressing to have a tiered approach including unable to leave council area.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 23/02/2021 15:05

@Orangeblossom1977

Indeed, but I can't help but agree with Patrick Harvey when he says that Boris giving a date in June for a full return to normality, when that is four months away and he has a history of getting practically everything wrong, isn't just ambitious, it's irresponsible.

I understand why people were looking for certainty from the FM this afternoon, but I don't think it's possible to do that right now in terms of giving a firm date when this is all expected to be over. Rightly or wrongly, and whether that's what he intended or not, that is how people are interpreting Boris' June declaration.

We've been given three dates where things are going to be reviewed, a clear description of what, exactly, is going to be looked at on those dates, reassurance that the SG will look to 'speed things up' if the climate is right and it's at all possible, and confirmation that the plan is for the whole of Scotland to be placed into a 'reviewed' (and hopefully relaxed) version of the previous 'tier 3' by the last week of April.

I don't know what people were expecting beyond that, because making more concrete propositions would be a bit irresponsible, especially when you are silly enough to bind yourself to them by stating that relaxations are 'irreversible'.

TokyoSushi · 23/02/2021 15:05

I'm not in Scotland, but watched and that was a pretty depressing update. I wonder if the 'other events' of this week have taken over Sturgeon's focus so this wasn't her main concern?

Hopefully, although it was presented ina pretty bleak manner, things will be much better very soon.

AhGoGo · 23/02/2021 15:07

Absolute non-announcement. Opening back into Tier 3 is just miserable, doesn't actually help business or anyone really.

Also Tier 3 still means you can't leave your council, so I still legally won't be able to see my family.

Then the tier system just seems impossible to get out of, especially when you live in Edinburgh and she uses the 'risk of people travelling to you' as a reason to never let you out of it.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/02/2021 15:08

Sturgeon always has to ensure that Scotland does things slightly different to England. It’s in her DNA.

somuchcoffeeneeded · 23/02/2021 15:09

Is the no crossing the border rule still in place? I want to see my family who live in Scotland!

ineedaholidaynow · 23/02/2021 15:09

@Orangeblossom1977 England expects to have offered every adult their first vaccine dose by 31st July, so after the date they think we can lift all restrictions
