..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

I think that it is a health lottery we are entering.

I know, the longer this goes on for, that we’re entering a mental health/well being/education/ life prospects lottery.

Take your pick.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 13:43

I think that it is a health lottery we are entering. Do you feel lucky?

I feel incredibly lucky that the kids can go back to school, thanks. Smile

wildchild554 · 24/02/2021 13:49

@AfternoonToffee Your not a shit parent, your doing amazing in a difficult time. I know how bad it is as in same situation but it feels like alot of people won't understand and just judge.

3littlewords · 24/02/2021 14:16

@1WayOrAnother2 if you want to stay home until school or work becomes a "safe" covid-free environment then feel free and we'll see you back in society in around 3021 possibly, maybe

1WayOrAnother2 · 24/02/2021 14:29

@FourTeaFallOut @3littlewords I didn't say that I want to stay home...

Just that in sending them back to school we are accepting a risk for the people most dear to us. Some of us will regret this in the worse ways possible.

It is not over and this isn't quite the moment for happy dances however much we long for them.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 14:30

I didn't say anything about anything about what anyone should do, did I?

TheKeatingFive · 24/02/2021 14:31

Just that in sending them back to school we are accepting a risk for the people most dear to us.

Plenty of risks in not sending them in also.

Life isn’t risk free. Of all the things that could cause great harm to our DC, I wouldn’t put Covid very high up that list.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 14:35

Yes we are. Honestly, I'm fine with that. Cases will rise with children returning to school and this is the point at which we will rely on vaccinations to reduce the hospitalisations and deaths that result from that rise.

This is how I feel too?
Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 24/02/2021 14:45

Random question mark, sorry.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 14:51

Glad it's not just me, I had hoped I wasn't a Cruella DeVille style outlier there. I'm not cavalier about it and I'm certainly not an anti-lockdown enthusiast, I just think we have met a threshold whereby a third of the adult population has a vaccination that will bring good levels of immunity to the most vulnerable and we have hit a tipping point for the balance of risk.

1WayOrAnother2 · 24/02/2021 14:55

It is one thing to be 'fine with the risk' and another to think that it is 'safe to go back'.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 14:56

Well, by that measure it's never safe to go back or cross a road.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 14:58

There are no risk free options.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/02/2021 15:05

The REACT study found levels of infection are being halved every 14.6 days. If the rate continues, the UK can expect to reach 1,000 cases a day by the second week of April.

Public Health England has a "high degree of confidence thatthe vaccineswill work against variants", including the Bristol variant of concern.

*Between the above and the vaccination program doing so well. Plus all the marvellous of new results from vaccine research. How is it not right to start returning to normal.

So long as we take the slow care pace that is planned the benefits out weigh the risks. Nothing apart from schools will open before group 9 are nearly finished. This is the right thing to do and the right time to do it*

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/02/2021 15:06

*careful

I stand by my view that it's insane to send kids back to school at this point. I note that so many of you are fighting about who should get what/whose job is more important and other whataboutery. It's classic and it's shit.

Instead of focussing on why this appalling, deadly, and criminally incompetent government are sending your kids back into an environment that is not safe, you're (not all, but enough of you) squabbling about whose work is more important/worse/who should be getting vaccinated.

There are even people attacking teachers for refusing to go back/not wanting to work in an unsafe environment.

Those of you whose kids are SEN: you think it's going to help by sending them into that unsafe environment? No masks, no vaccinations, and not enough room in most schools to SD, but that's somehow acceptable? The absolute fuckwittery of that (sending kids back to school) is beyond me. How on earth did Johnson and his cronies persuade you all that it's okay? How??

TokyoSushi · 24/02/2021 15:31

Not RTFT so you may already have seen but it looks like Gav's on a surprise 5pm briefing today, let's see if he says anything useful at all!

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 15:33

Don't be so goddamned rude. Read Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum's post again and point to one bit of it that suggests that opinion is informed by either Boris or his cronies.

Johnson didn't persuade me it was OK. The fact that Covid is barely a threat to children persuaded me it was OK.

I just can’t wait for my holiday! Can’t wait. Roll on July!

duckme · 24/02/2021 15:42

And I can't bloody wait!
My kids have been brilliant throughout as they're secondary age. I honestly don't know how you parents of primary kids have done it, you seriously have my admiration! However, they need to get back for their sanity!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/02/2021 15:43

Around here all the sen schools have been fully open with at least three quarters of the kids attending. So it is very little change to them.

My friend teaches at a Sen school. They are now all in masks if they want to wear them. Most the staff have now been vaccinated. The rest will get done soon. All other schools opening makes very little change to them.

My secondary has a lot of sen children. The staff have all been wearing masks since September. Children have been encouraged too. Some of the Sen children don't but some love their masks. A fair amount of these children have also been in school during lockdown too.
