..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

OP posts:
Violetlavenders · 23/02/2021 14:23

My DS(16) wants to stay at home. He has full timetable remote provision so it is not like he doesn't have a full school day at the moment, but seems to prefer remote provision

Maybe your ds has a large family at home and lots of friends online, or maybe he just enjoys his own company.

I bet there are many 16 year olds, especially living as only children or with a single parent that feel very lonely and isolated. They will be desperate to get back to school.

Violetlavenders · 23/02/2021 14:25

But responding to the op, I think most parents are happy to accept a small risk in return for the huge benefit of their children being back at school.

I mean, what is 'safe' anyway?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 23/02/2021 14:32

Sadly I don't think it is safe. However on a personal level it is the better outcome as at least ECV dh has had vaccine.
I am at breaking point with homeschooling and dd2 needs face to face therapy and tutoring.
I am at an increased risk of potential harm by COVID but at this stage my physical and mental health is by starting to suffer due to stress .
I do however have sympathy for vulnerable school staff who haven't had the vaccine and those with cv children or other family members.

CovidCrow · 23/02/2021 14:37

Ahh that's lovely 3littlewords Smile
Kids have missed out on so much.

@Regulus

Do you cross the road?
Do you travel abroad on an airplane/boat/train?
Do you allow your children to use slides/swim in a pool/the sea/play sports?
Do they stay cocoon up in their rooms?
What level of safety for children which have a miniscule risk of death for covid and a very tiny risk of needing hospital do you allow for day to day life?
Proportion is everything.

Multicover · 23/02/2021 16:00

@Jellybaby4

I am so surprised by the amount of posts saying, 'my children cant wait to be back in school's Really? My children never want to go back, anybody else's children not want to go back?
Children whose parents are irrationally paranoid about COVID are hardly likely to be skipping through the school gates.
PracticingPerson · 23/02/2021 16:29

Have you really never heard that some kids don't enjoy school? Not everything is about covid Hmm

My kids are fairly keen to go back, fwiw, but the idea that some kids are happy at home is hardly new.

These type of posts so spectacularly miss the point, is it deliberate or due to lack of knowledge?

Yes, I cross the road.

Doesn't mean I think unlocking too quickly is a good idea nationally, even though the risks to my individual child are extremely low.

The false comparisons add little to the discussion.

My kids don’t want to go back at the end of the school holidays. But lockdown is not a holiday! It’s all the stuff about school that they don’t like (work, some of the teachers) without the stuff that they do like (friends).
IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 23/02/2021 16:40

I’m definitely not even slightly paranoid about covid. But I do think it’s strange that all these kids are desperate to be back at school. My kids and all the kids I know want to see their friends but they’re not particularly fussed about going back to school. I mean, it’s school! Do all these children look forward to school holidays too?

Violetlavenders · 23/02/2021 16:42

But the overall risk to the whole population of schoolchildren and teachers is extremely low now.

Nothing is risk free. And schools won't be risk free either, but the benefits of opening schools far outweigh the risks at this point.

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 23/02/2021 16:42

*to GOING BACK to school AFTER holidays, that should say.

Multicover · 23/02/2021 16:45

‘Have you really never heard that some kids don't enjoy school? Not everything is about covid hmm’

On a thread discussing schools reopening after COVID, then it’s a perfectly valid point to make.
Some kids didn’t like school before Covid.
Some kids did.
Before Covid, kids weren’t scared and worried about attending school because their heads were being filled with angst and anxietyabout a scary virus by parents incapable of assessing risks to otherwise healthy children and adults with any sort of rational thinking.
Spot the difference? Wink

Maybe looking forward to school because at the moment its the only time they can see their friends and leave the house for a significant amount of the day. School returning is the only thing they've got going for them at the moment. Some dc may not have interacted with another child since before Christmas

Well my teens have not seen a single friend since last December (other than online). They are also struggling with their A level courses that are taught entirely online, missing a lot of the practical experiments. so yes, they are desperate to go back to school.

This.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 23/02/2021 16:58

I have one child that is gagging to get back to school and one that would rather never go back. All kids are different.

Remmy123 · 23/02/2021 17:10

My kids don't want to go back - but as a parent, surely you realise that school is all part of growing up, an experience - online lessons on a screen all day is awful!!!

MarshaBradyo · 23/02/2021 17:12

Ds yr6 is fed up of home learning on screen so has said he wants to go back

It seems many of them are keen according to WA and school chat. The teacher is very lovely and says she’s looking forward to it too. Really nice to see their excitement.

Ds yr11 is keen too for friends and learning

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 23/02/2021 17:16

Fair enough. My kids are happy to go back because they’ll see their friends. I just think people make it sound like even before covid, kids were desperate to be at school. It’s their friends most want, not lessons and rules. They accept school because it’s not an option and it facilitates friendships.

Sorry to hear your kids are struggling with their A levels. I have a son in year 12 doing A levels, 3 sciences and Maths so I do appreciate it’s been difficult especially with missing practicals. We’re very lucky that the teaching seems to have been excellent and he’s improved his grades on the latest assessments. But science practicals are obviously impossible at home. I hope things improve for your children once they’re back.

MarshaBradyo · 23/02/2021 17:17

It’s friends but it’s also switching from screen based school to normal school. Some will be happy to do that. Even then some dc do actually enjoy school not just for friends.

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 23/02/2021 17:21

My kids do enjoy it, once they’re there. But they’re always a bit fed up at the end of a holiday or even a Sunday night, that thought of school again. It’s the same as adults if you’ve had a week off, I don’t look forward you going back to work. But I love my job and the people.

wildchild554 · 23/02/2021 17:32

@mumsneedwine I'm also extremely clinically high risk and supposed to be shielding and also not recevied call offering vacination.

wildchild554 · 23/02/2021 17:35

Having said that can't wait for them to go back both children are SEN, one is autistic and I desperately need a break and educating my asd son is simply not working.
