..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

@BeakyWinder sweetie, I'm working from 7.30 - 5 so only on here after hours.

CKBJ · 22/02/2021 21:33

@mumsneedwine 🤣 oh of course just like COVID knew to stop at the school gates last term!

hamstersarse · 22/02/2021 21:34

@BlueEyes31

After Easter would have been better, and the teachers should have been vaccinated. I want this to be the last lockdown, but if we rush things we will be back to square one.
You have heard about the vaccination programme right?

We won't ever be back to square 1 with the vaccination programme. You do know this.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 21:34

@CKBJ it's v v scared of getting a detention. The magic tape is incredible stuff.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 21:34

@CKBJ maybe we have extra special yellow and black tape

I’m desperate for schools to open, but I do think teachers should be offered the vaccination. I don’t understand why the government won’t prioritise them. If they really do want open schools safely then at least they should be doing all they can to protect teachers?

That's because the Tories don't actually care about children or schools. You only need to look at their reluctance to feed poor children to see the level of contempt they have for ordinary people.

"School's are our number 1 priority," might as well be. "We need you plebs back in work so we're going to open schools at any cost so you can get childcare and keep on making us richer and wealthier."

Myothercarisalsoshit · 22/02/2021 21:38

I'm starting to think it's cull. Get rid of all the bolshy older, expensive teachers, drive down wages and recruit more NQT's on new contracts!

They don't need Covid for that, they've been doing that for years!
mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 21:41

It's working. Lots of us retiring early and off at end of the year.

picklespark · 22/02/2021 21:41

God, people are twits on this thread.

It's not about teachers necessarily getting sick - the data clearly shows that schools drive community transmission, and there are still A LOT of unvaccinated adults out there, and of course the children, who can pass on the virus.

This is still enough to drive up the R rate to increase hospitalisations within the next few months. A proportion of younger, healthy adults needing hospital treatment will still be enough to put undue pressure on the NHS.

Many school staff and parents are rightfully pissed off because the government could have used this lockdown to take measures to make schools safer, and they've done precisely nothing. Other countries, inc. Europe have masks for children over 6. Installing HEPA filters in unventilated spaces is a relatively low cost per child and would really help with aerosol transmission. They could have looked into Nightingale classrooms to spread out the space. Actually, they should have done this last summer when rates were extremely low.

Also, allowing moderate levels of community transmission increases the risk of mutations that can escape from vaccines.

It's been hard for all parents, we know that. But opening schools all at once is a recipe for disaster.

Well yeah but I guess this is a golden opportunity to speed up the process without all the 'unpleasantness' ...

VioletAlder · 22/02/2021 21:43

& they'll probably be able to recruit lots of shiny new NQTs what with the recession & whatnot. Retention, not so much.

What the government opening up plan or the whole covid pandemic Grin
Sockbogies · 22/02/2021 21:44

Why should teachers get the vaccination ahead of police officers, who get spat at and deal with crowds of people in very close proximity? Or nursery workers who change nappies and cuddle the babies/toddlers? Or many other professions that deal with people face to face, and at best might have a flimsy face mask?

Helloandhelloagain · 22/02/2021 21:44

Kids aren’t safe In a supermarkets or shops but people still drag them when in certain cases they could be left.
So I’m glad they’re open. They bloody need it

TheKeatingFive · 22/02/2021 21:45

Most people are motivated by keeping their own jobs and paying their mortgage. Having access to childcare and paying their own way is a good thing for people and society as a whole.

Completely agree.

You can get the jab if you are 'moderately at risk/vulnerable'. So just pick up the phone and discuss with your GP.

School staff aren't at risk of losing their jobs though are they? And they can send their children to school.

Kier Starmer once asked the question to Boris of why teachers weren’t being prioritised for the vaccine.

His answer was that scientists had worked out who was at highest risk from Covid, and put them in order of priority on the vaccine list. Boris said it should be left up to scientists to decide who would get the vaccine and when, not politicians (or I would suggest, Mumsnetters).

TheKeatingFive · 22/02/2021 21:51

School staff have lives, children, mortgages and commitments too

No one said they haven’t.

The sector is not facing imminent redundancies like so many others, which parents know they are at significant risk for, because they’ve been double jobbing for a lot of the last year.
