I can’t see this being reported anywhere but the Daily Fail are reporting masks to be worn in Secondary schools for first few weeks back.

My son loves to purposely allow his glasses to steam up in any mask and then sit staring blankly through steamed up glasses. Bet they'll be doing this in class. Gawd help the poor teachers - I'm glad masks will help to make them a little safer despite this ridiculous 'Big Bang' return but also know that it opens up a world of 'behaviours' to contend with!

Just in case I haven't mentioned them enough yet... No fog glasses wipes. They're magic. I have no idea what different ingredient they have in them to regular glasses wipes but, once wiped, they don't steam up at all for a good 12 hours.

Nith · 24/02/2021 08:18

I read somewhere that anti-fogging stuff is either bad for or doesn't work on glasses that have a coating. Is that right?

Tell him not to, then!
RandomGrammarPun · 24/02/2021 08:19

I don't know. They work fine on mine. And I bought them in the optometrist who I assume wouldn't sell them if so? No guarantees though.

@TimandGinger

Cannot believe you all think this is ok. I have an eight year old. Because I live in Scotland, he’s expected to wear one in shops and so on. We don’t allow it and have never had any problems. No way would I allow my child to wear one in school either.
Normal people agree with you.

MN is not normal or representative of normal.

Frequentflier · 24/02/2021 09:33

I suppose most countries in the world are not normal, then. Or maybe they decided that a pandemic is not the time to insist on "normal".

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 24/02/2021 09:34

My Scottish 8 year old would not have a clue why your Scottish 8 year old isn't capable of wearing a mask.

Our son wears one because he has controlled asthma, has no idea yet when he will be vaccinated and would rather not contract Covid.
He will be very grateful indeed to considerate peers who wear a mask too, to help protect others.

I don’t know whether he’s “normal”. I do know he is intelligent.

TimandGinger · 24/02/2021 10:07

This is why I don't really bother with Mumsnet any more, which is a shame as I used to love it.It was very helpful and funny too. It's just a boring echo chamber now. Like this thread. I'm fully aware that the mask policy in other countries in different as my husband is from a EU country. England is marginally more sensible than Scotland in not mandating them for five years plus, but that's not saying much. I feel sorry for all these children who have parents who think it's fine for them to wear a mask to school.

I really, really hope you are not unnecessarily scaring your child. Asthmatics are not at increased risk of COVID nor do they appear to have more severe reactions: www.atsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1164/rccm.202008-3266OC

I guess I think my child can cope with a mask for a few months better than killing or making his vulnerable father seriously ill.

fine for anti maskers not to bother with mumsnet -your choice

No, don’t worry. My “child” has just turned 18, 6ft 3, far brighter than I am and reaches his own conclusions.
He has been wearing a mask in appropriate settings on the advice of his asthma nurse and after reading updates from Asthma UK for the past year.

He has also chosen to wear one as he deems necessary to protect his CEV dad.

Trust me, he is a level headed young person and I could not “scare him” into doing anything he didn’t think was prudent 😁

Thanks. :- The aggression anyone gets who expresses a different view on here about lots of things is quite telling. Says more about the posters than it does about me I feel. I work in healthcare and never have masks been suggested for the general public for viruses until last year. They're just part of being seen to 'do something' whether they work or not. Some people on here seem to think they protect the wearer, which is incorrect.
ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 24/02/2021 10:30

Yes it's other people your son is putting at risk. Does that make it better?
Fine if he has reasons for not being able to wear one, but that's not the case is it.

noblegiraffe · 24/02/2021 10:30

Yeah, what's happened in the last year that means that masks have now been suggested for the general public?

Can anyone think of anything?

herecomesthsun · 24/02/2021 10:34

Not aggression, just resigned acceptance of your stated intention

@animalfarmagain what MN is representative of, by in large, is posters who are more intelligent than the average IQ.
Perhaps something lower brow would be more suitable for you. You could peddle your anti-vax /anti-mask nonsense as fact with those sorts of 'normal' people.

I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that might be because we weren’t dealing with a pandemic virus until last year.

I’m not sure that’s completely true either.

It is true. I did the training. It was all the catch it, kill it, bin it. Wash your hands, or use sanitiser if you don't have access to a sink.

Don't be ridiculous. He won't put other people at risk unless he's ill. If he's ill I'll keep him at home. As for the person who's told their child they might kill their dad, words fail me really. I know lots of vulnerable people and none of them would ever say anything like that to a child. In England it's 12 and overs who have to wear a mask. Here in Scotland it's five, yet our figures are no better than England's.

Ah ok. I posted that as I assumed your child was younger.
