Self catering/staycations at Easter?

Flashdancing · 22/02/2021 08:30

I read that was a possibility before, is there anything being said about it? I have a self catering place booked by the sea mid April.
I know he’ll be announcing today, but I knew there would be some leaks beforehand!

I’m in the same situation & have everything crossed, although read on the news this morning that people hoping to go away for Easter are likely to be disappointed 😞

Sirzy · 22/02/2021 08:42

Highly unlikely

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/02/2021 08:43

If the "leak" is to be believed then overnight stays will not be allowed. That's what I read this morning.

ThursdayLastWeek · 22/02/2021 08:46

I know this is selfish but I hope not. I live in an holiday area, and I would hate for cases to rise and have it blamed on schools again.

But then I don’t know what the prospects look like for employees on furlough after March? It’s so hard.

Alfaix · 22/02/2021 08:48

We have one booked too. It’s refundable. If it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen.

I don’t think that’s selfish at all.

We have cancelled our booked Easter holiday and the locals was part of our reason for doing so.

I’m hoping by whit we can get away safely

FurForksSake · 22/02/2021 08:49

The leak I have seen is that it will be June, after May half-term.

skeggycaggy · 22/02/2021 08:50

I live in a holiday area & frankly the idea that in just over a month people from all over the country can come here to mingle on holiday seems ridiculous. I am no fan of lockdown but let’s come out of it slowly so we don’t have another bloody one.

CeeJay81 · 22/02/2021 09:01

I was so hoping that overnight stays would be allowed soon ☹️. Not for a jolly though. I'm most likely going to have some very longs difficult days ahead. My mum is over 4.5 hours away by public transport (I don't drive) in a care home. We just found out she's only got months left to live. I've not visited her for a long time thanks to the pandemic and care home restrctions. I usually stay in an air b n b room or guest house. None of them will allow it, they will only take NHS workers. So I'm going to have some long days until it is allowed unless I can find somewhere to stay.

Sunflowergirl1 · 22/02/2021 09:02

Looks like not....what is worrying me is that it even suggests June/ July so does make me wonder how correct the leaks are?

Scarby9 · 22/02/2021 09:04

I also thought it was looking likely earlier this month (apartment booked for Easter week, postponed from Christmas week) but the leaks and speculation in the press today suggest no hope of that being allowed by then, sadly.

Katie517 · 22/02/2021 09:04

Some leaks are saying yes, some are saying June. The difference in the leaks is all over the place so better to wait a few hours until 3pm!

herecomesthsun · 22/02/2021 09:06

We have made some provisional plans to see MIL that can be cancelled. To be honest, it is still a bit vague (road map not even announced yet) and there would be room for U turns.

skeggycaggy · 22/02/2021 09:06

CeeJay81 sorry to hear you are in a tricky situation. Have you tried lots of Airbnbs? We’ve had my MIL in Airbnbs for a while as she sold her house & the new one has been delayed, it hasn’t been difficult finding somewhere to accept her. Hope you can find something.

Mucklemore · 22/02/2021 09:12

Ceejay81 we walked past a few holiday cottages in our local area that definitely had people staying in them - I was wondering if it was similar situations to yours. People will still need short term stays for a variety of reasons that isn't just a jolly.

CeeJay81 · 22/02/2021 09:21

I've tried a couple on air b n b. I just assumed it was illegal but maybe not, I'll try some more a bit further away then. Hopefully somewhere will take me for the night.

Flashdancing · 22/02/2021 09:27

June?! I was hoping for May half term!

OP posts:
Flashdancing · 22/02/2021 09:45

They’re saying May in the guardian, but I guess there are different rumours circulating everywhere

A Premier inn or similar will probably take you, you have a good reason. Tell them your mum doesn't have long left and you need to stay overnight Thanks

Oysterbabe · 22/02/2021 10:12

It won't be possible at Easter.

tarapinn · 22/02/2021 10:16

Ceejay. I'm sure if you explained your situation some Airbnb hosts would accommodate you?

Flashdancing · 22/02/2021 11:05

Anyone think May half term is a possibility?

OP posts:
LucilleTheVampireBat · 22/02/2021 11:14

Ceejay - you could book into a Premier Inn (other similar budget hotels are available). My daughter works for them, they are certainly taking business and 'compassionate' bookings.

As someone who lives in a village full of holiday rentals I bloody well hope they stay closed as it is hugely stressful for the residents and I spent all last Summer stuck indoors.

I live in a holiday town and I was out most days. Loved seeing my town come to life again.
