If they open up schools all at once, I'm done with every other precaution

If the 'leak' is true and they are stupid enough to open up all schools to all kids at the same time (thus leading to uncontrolled transmission of variants and increased risk of vaccine escape, further lockdowns and a redo of the vaccination programme) then I'm done with any kind of compliance.

I'm not staying at home like a fucking stupid sitting duck, waiting for my kids to come home with Covid anymore. The kids can see their friends, have sleepovers and we'll go out and about and visit friends and relatives and do the maximum we can.

You can pile in and call me selfish or whatever - I genuinely don't care anymore. I'm not putting my life on hold just for the government to fuck the recovery up again. I'm the most compliant of pretty much everyone I know but this is it for me, and many others I suspect (most of whom are already doing way more than me). If it's safe for my kids to go to school, then everything is safe.

Anna. I agree. A friend went to Worcester to get the vaccine. Potential for loads of people. About 30 staff. He was the only one there Confused

Well said MrsHusky.
@Inastatus Think you’ll find it’s people like you that will lead us to another lockdown
Not at all why would it

everythingisstillginandroses · 22/02/2021 10:15

@MarshaBradyo are you also @Inastatus? Confused

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 10:15

Do I have to be to disagree with you Confused

Ridzlovesflowers · 22/02/2021 10:15

@MarshaBradyo @inastaus Because it doesn’t matter how many rules you follow there will always be another lockdown and the sooner you all realise that the better.

waitingforgranny · 22/02/2021 10:15

There has to be a balance. The hospitals are less overwhelmed and can cope again. So yes, the spread may go up again initially and some people may get ill.

But we can't live like this forever. The kids need an education and they need to socialise. There has to be a balance of physics and mental well-being on the world

What I don't understand is why there are so many empty slots at the vaccine centres. The government said they want people to come forward. Currently doing groups 1-6 in our area - yet slots are free. Why are people in those groups not going online and booking a slot - why are they not full?
i would imagine because potentially there are still quite a few people who either dont want it, or can't get to the vaccination centers.

I see some are looking forward to this

But there’s good news out there

Here you go Breaking news
‘hospitalisations were reduced by 85% and 94% for the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs respectively.

It is the first sign of the real world impact of the Covid vaccination programme in the U.K.’

Quartz2208 · 22/02/2021 10:19

Why do you think there will be another lockdown though? And that schools going back will cause it?

Inastaus is right a lack of understanding as to what this roadmap is doing and why schools and only schools are opening is the issue

Pandemics die out (otherwise we would have died out years ago) what makes this one any different? We have tried to speed up the process but it’s likely to take the 2 ish years it was always going to take

pinkearedcow · 22/02/2021 10:22

I don't understand why England isn't following the rest of the UK on this? The other three nations are having a phased return, why is Johnson so gung ho?

TheVolturi · 22/02/2021 10:26

I agree with you op 100%, absolutely ridiculous for the kids to all go back at once. Don't get me wrong, I want my kids at school, but if everything else is restricted then it's a joke.

I suspect because the leaders of the other nation’s aren’t disproportionately influenced [scared of] the self-appointed CRG.

everythingisstillginandroses · 22/02/2021 10:27

@Quartz2208 you are very sensible as always. I guess many of us tend to assume the worst and have little faith in the government based on their track record so far.

I am hoping the medical advances will be sufficent to take us out of the cycle of:
succumb to complacency
freak out
repeat

Hope you are doing ok and thanks again for your support last year on the 30/40/50 Days+ threads last year Flowers

"I think what the government is doing is stupid and will raise risks. Therefore I will do everything I can to further raise risks."

Is that really ALL you have for me @MarshaBradyo? I’m deeply disappointed. Your “breaking news” isn’t going to change anything...

@TheVolturi

Why though?

A certain level of transmission is manageable, beyond that and we head to exponential levels of infection, overwhelmed hospitals (including cancellation of non-COVID related appts, and those who need urgent health care for non-COVID emergencies) and huge risk of emergence of new strains.

Not all restrictions can be eased at once because of this. The government has decided to prioritise opening schools instead of other areas of society, and I don't see how that's a bad thing? Helps mitigate disrupted learning/social life of children, improve QoL of parents who have been trying to home school, improve productivity of workers who had previously not been able to focus on work..

Violetlavenders · 22/02/2021 10:30

Why not ease them back in gently - important years first and then ease them back in year by year.

Because EVERY year is important. Our children have had to sacrifice soo much already to 'protect the NHS'. Now it's time to move on and put THEIR needs first.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 10:31

What would be rest all round is if the politicians don't go round spouting that schools are safe. Instead they acknowledge that there are risks this could increase the rate, and there are risks that children and families will be impacted by the virus. They put more measures in place in schools like masks and rotas (especially in Secondary). So people don't see it it as a free for all and say 'sod it' I'm going to do what I want.

When DS goes back to school I will still stick to the rules, and I will hope that his education won't be disrupted by bubbles bursting, I will hope he doesn't get it and I will hope he doesn't pass it on to other family members.

But I can understand when the Government says sod it about safety measures in schools why other people will say sod it about everything else.

whymewhyme · 22/02/2021 10:31

I'm with you, it a joke!

pinkearedcow · 22/02/2021 10:32

Yes, you could be right, DenisetheMenace.

Quartz2208 · 22/02/2021 10:33

Marshabradyo sadly I think some people thrive on lockdowns and the negativity it causes

As it happens I am surprised it’s an all in approach I assume Secondary schools would be delayed and other things allowed but they really are just doing schools

Everythingisstillroses oh I don’t have faith in the Government but I do in nature and that it will follow the pattern of all others.
Yes certain things have made this one worse (international travel/too much knowledge of variants) but that is balanced out by the medical and scientific bits for me

Violetlavenders · 22/02/2021 10:34

Don't get me wrong, I want my kids at school, but if everything else is restricted then it's a joke.

But that's the whole point. We open one section (schools) of society up at a time. Transmission will rise so we all need to keep restrictions elsewhere.
