Boris's announcement on Monday

Riv12345 · 20/02/2021 18:51

Do anyone know what time he is doing the announcement on Monday?

It will be leaked in all the press tomorrow night! He is then briefing MPs at lunchtime Monday so will all be common knowledge as usual before the press conference.

JanFebAnyMonth · 20/02/2021 19:08

Have seen suggestion that he'll speak in the Commons about 3.30 then do a press conference later, don't know whether it's a 5pm or an 8pm situation. When he announced the "road out of lockdown" on 10 May what time was he on, that's the closest parallel?

Riv12345 · 20/02/2021 19:25

I hope it's at 8 so most people will be home from work by then.

Hope it's all good.

BlueTimes · 20/02/2021 19:30

I hope 8pm as well but the vast majority have been 5pm, so that’s what I’m expecting.

Lemons1571 · 20/02/2021 19:31

I reckon 6pm or 7pm

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/02/2021 19:31

@Riv12345

I hope it's at 8 so most people will be home from work by then.

Hope it's all good.

Unfortunately everyone has a diff idea of what “good” would be
everythingisstillginandroses · 20/02/2021 19:33

Alexander's resignation would be good.

Rosehip10 · 20/02/2021 19:35

Little point to the public broadcast by BoJo - all details will be given in the 15.30 commons statement.

SpencerGregson · 20/02/2021 19:36

Doesn’t he normally make a statement in the Commons which is then followed up by a (somewhat pointless) press conference.

Hope so - I would rather not spend all day Monday with yet more press leaks.

Ridcully82 · 20/02/2021 19:37

Think people need to manage their expectations as much as possible on terms of "good":if this is done right,it will be gradual and will take a couple of months to get to somewhere pretty livable

Riv12345 · 20/02/2021 19:39

Good I mean just some kind of lift in this lockdown
Obviously safely.

OP posts:
Howshouldibehave · 20/02/2021 19:39

Peston will have leaked it by about 2pm Monday, so no need to watch Boris-keep an eye out there...!

MrBullinaChinaShop · 20/02/2021 19:41

The only ones done at 8 have been the ‘national lockdown’ addresses to the nation so it’s not likely to be then.
He’s addressing the House of Commons at 3.30 so we’ll know what’s happening then. Then announcement likely at 5.

HeddaGarbled · 20/02/2021 19:41

I’d keep an eye on Robert Peston’s Twitter - that’s where we usually get the details first.

Flamingolingo · 20/02/2021 19:42

Just keep an eye on the daily mail website. They seem to have a mole into govt. pretty much every announcement to date has been leaked ahead of time in the mail.

Ridcully82 · 20/02/2021 19:45

@Riv12345

Good I mean just some kind of lift in this lockdown Obviously safely.
😁 obvious to you and I Riv,but I know some people who will be genuinely suprised if all the kids are back at once in primary and secondary, and mist if the other stuff before Easter:think they're setting themselves for unnecessary pain
Ridcully82 · 20/02/2021 19:46

That's meant to be a grin!!

Chloemol · 20/02/2021 19:59

Most of its in the papers now!

SuperbGorgonzola · 20/02/2021 20:14

I think we'll know the gist of it by tonight when the Sunday papers reveal their front pages.

I think the headline will be a full reopening of all schools with an allowance for phased return to facilitate testing.

Riv12345 · 20/02/2021 20:18

Yeah I agree most of it will be leaked in the Sunday papers

OP posts:
Isolatedizzy · 20/02/2021 20:21

Twitter is full of the fact that Boris is sending all schools back by 8 March but Chris Witty is unhappy about that and won't endorse it!

So I guess we'll wait and see!

herecomesthsun · 20/02/2021 20:24

Maybe the narrative is supposed to be that spiffing Boris wants an end to lockdown - but he is also listening to the killjoy scientists who want to keep us locked down for ever for nasty sensible reasons -

so we are coming out of lockdown, but a bit slowly and it's not his fault?

Crakeandoryx · 20/02/2021 20:25

Press leaks tomorrow. Sturgeon will get in with her ideas by 12pm Monday. Preston Twitter, commons announcement. We're going to know before Monday evening. It'll be another terribly kept secret 🥴

starfish4 · 20/02/2021 20:27

It's being announced in the House of Commons so we can watch that on TV or pick up immediately after work on social media, no need to wait for evening conference.

Awalkinthefreshair · 20/02/2021 20:32

I've been so sure of the outcome I wanted from this announcement for weeks, but now it's almost here I have no idea what I want from it. I've reached the point where I just couldn't care less. It just wastes so much emotional energy on a situation I have zero control over. I'll just sit back and watch the show.
