This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

Morning all! Just checking in and catching up - things have been a bit manic with the DC recently. Sounds like today could be an exciting one - if we can get to 21.2 million that will mean 40% of all UK adults will have had their first dose. Just knowing that makes me feel so much safer. Roll on 4pm! Grin

What is a cache or incognito setting please?

lurker101 · 05/03/2021 11:24

Cache is a type of quick access storage that many web browsers use, so it means that when you use a website you have recently used, your browser may load it based on data that it has stored on your device from a previous attempt rather than fully refreshing, which will use more data.

Incognito is Google chrome’s version of private browsing, so it doesn’t use cache or store a history.

The reason I say this is when I tried booking my parents they were showing as ineligible, but after going incognito they were eligible.

If you know what browser you use like internet explorer or chrome, you can google for a simple step-by-step instruction on how to clear it (it’s super simple, but browser dependent)
Here’s an example for an iPhone (delete history, cookies and cache)

Early data suggests AstraZeneca vaccine effective against Brazilian variant - Reuters

Preliminary data from a study conducted at the University of Oxford indicates that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca is effective against Brazilian variant, a source with knowledge of the study told Reuters on Friday.

The data indicates that the vaccine will not need to be modified in order to protect against the variant, which is believed to have originated in the Amazonian city of Manaus, said the source, who requested anonymity as the results have not yet been made public.

The source did not provide the exact efficacy of the vaccine against the variant. They said the full results of the study should be released soon, possibly in March.

Amazing. @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

hennybeans · 05/03/2021 17:25

An interesting fact:
DH works on the NHS app and told me that only 18% of people who check if they are eligible for the vaccine online are told no, they're not eligible yet.

I thought it would like 60%! But I guess it's only on MN that people are checking over and over to see if they're eligible.

No data for today yet

WombatChocolate · 05/03/2021 19:01

I'm not surprised.
Loads of people don't look at the booking site or even know it exists.
Very many people aren't what they call 'active vaccine seekers' but will only feel happy to book once they have a personal letter of invitation in their hands...and lots using the site have those. Others only look at the front page which if often not showing who can actually book, so won't try their details as they fear rule breaking or queue jumping, even thought the system won't allow it, so don't book.

I'm not surprised at all that the majority for who try can book.

The ones who it's worth looking for are those in the next age group down than those mentioned on the front page. Those in 30s etc know they won't be for a while (although quicker than many imagine) an do checking more than once a week isn't going to throw anything up at this stage.

I so enjoy hearing that another age group can use the national booking system though. Each one feels like a little victory.

The who,e thing about attitudes to vaccine and vaccine booking is so interesting. It's not just those who want it or are anti-vaccine or resistors, but a huge range attitudes towards booking, moron those queuing outside the centres hoping for spare doses, to those searching these threads for more info on who might be able to book or keeping updated on their local area so they can book ASAP, to those who might look at the national booking site when they've heard their age group might be being done, to those who look but are strongly influenced by the front page and won't proceed to input data and even if they do, to actually book, to those who are directed by the front page, those who want a letter first, those who have a letter and look but don't want to travel and so choose to delay rather than get it sooner, to those who intend to book and just don't get round to it, to those then offered by the GP as they haven't booked as then take it quickly, to those who need 6 or 7 co facts from GP or other services to Gt it, to those who never will.

The system is designed to push people through who are keen and recognise how people are different and ensure people get followed up if they don't book, as well as managing the bookings so it's managed and people go through in broad priority groups, whilst pushing for speed rather than waiting for everyone who is eligible to actually get on and book before moving on to the next group.

The World Service this morning said that the take-up rate in the UK is the highest of anywhere, and in France is down at 55%.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 05/03/2021 19:40

Still no sign of the numbers. I want numbers!

(Feeling a bit sorry for the team that produce them who are presumably still working madly trying to get them out while I eat my dinner and press refresh on my phone.)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/03/2021 19:53

No numbers still ☹

Mumoftwoinprimary · 05/03/2021 20:38

Updated!

We’ve hit the 21.2m - so 4 in 10 adults have now had at least one vaccination.

Over 1 million people have had both vaccinations.

Deaths are comfortably under 250 per day over the last week for the first time since October last year.

And we have all survived home schooling!

Time for some Friday bubbles I think!

EasterIssland · 05/03/2021 20:43

Thanks for the data !

Congrats to all those parents that have survived homeschooling! Hope you don’t have to repeat it for a while. It’ll mean things are going as they should !

NannyElle · 05/03/2021 20:46

@lurker101

Silly point here - everyone that is regularly checking for their slot to open on the national booking site - please remember to clear your “cache” or use your browser’s incognito setting. This will avoid you being told you’re not eligible from a previous visit that is being retrieved from cache and not refreshed, if you are now eligible.
Thanks for the tip!! Was just able to book in my 52 yr old dad for his jab!
DdraigGoch · 05/03/2021 20:46

Time for some Friday bubbles I think!
When this is all over, I never want to hear the "bubble" word ever again.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/03/2021 20:47

Brilliant ❤

VivaLeBeaver · 05/03/2021 20:47

Managed to get dh booked in for a vaccine. So next week both he and Dd will be vaccinated. Dd is group 6, dh is late 50s. I’m a HCP and got done a while ago.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2021 21:34

" Was just able to book in my 52 yr old dad for his jab!"

I don;t quit understand, because surely it's a national website, and I am getting "if you are 56 or over" still.

How does it knop which area one is in?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/03/2021 21:34

don't quite! and know

PuzzledObserver · 05/03/2021 21:53

I’m 57, and a bit Hmm that someone of 52 needs their child to book for them!
