Husband knows of 3 people now who have 'booked their vaccines online' it's really bugging me as the NHS online system clearly states only to book if you're eligible. None of these people are! How are they doing it? Do you know anyone who has done the same? I'm obviously not going to book mine as I'm not eligible

Firstly, we are nearly getting to the point where it doesn't matter what order people are getting jabbed, we all need it eventually

Except the JVC don’t think this. And the over 65’s and majority of underlying conditions haven’t been vaccinated in my city. Even though they’re priority.

Different areas/places in the country?

Some areas are flying along and others are behind.

Tell that yo Jo Whiley who was invited before her cV sister who now has COVID.

Where I am you can’t book unless called. People are called for reasons you might not know about. Nursery workers have all been called in my area, for example
ShutUpaYourFace · 20/02/2021 09:00

What about if you've been invited to book by your local, but not your own gp surgery, but don't know why? Will the centre Ask for iD? All I had to give was my date of birth when invited to book. I have no idea why I've been invited so soon. (45 no underlying health, not a carer nor do I work for nhs, I do have a high bmi but not 40)
I don't want the embarrassment of being turned away due to an error.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/02/2021 09:01

Shouldn’t it be level across all areas of the country?

5000 in group 6 in my city. 400 vaccines received last week. It will take until May just to vaccinate group 6. Never mind 7, 8 and 9

Are you in England or Wales? There were reports in January about a short term disruption to vaccine supply while factories were upgraded, but production should be moving along
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/02/2021 09:20

I’m in Yorkshire.

We do all need it eventually, it is just galling to hear of people trying to 'queue jump' when there are so many who are in vulnerable groups struggling to get vaccinated.

bigbluebus · 20/02/2021 09:52

One of the vaccination centres about 20 miles from me has the capacity and vaccines to do 1000 people a day. There was an article on the radio yesterday saying they were only doing a few hundred due to the NHS booking system not allocating them enough people to vaccinate (although surely they can only allocate people who choose that venue) and hundreds of appointments were going to waste! In those circumstances you'd think they'd just ask anyone with an NHS number to turn up and get the jab regardless of priority (but as far as I know they didn't open it out to others).

vjg13 · 20/02/2021 09:56

I think if you have been invited to book, taking your letter or text message as proof should be fine. I was asked a lot of questions about the person I care for but no proof was demanded. I had my text invitation.

vjg13 · 20/02/2021 09:57

There seems to be a lot of confusion that unused capacity equates to wasted vaccines which get thrown away. That is not the case.

Onedaysomedaynowadays · 20/02/2021 10:11

My DP is on furlough so volunteering in a role that requires him to go into people's houses. My mum keeps saying he's eligible for the vaccine because her friend's daughter does the same thing and went and got hers. Same demographic, no health conditions etc.
DP is happy to wait until it's his turn agewise and accept the risk in the meantime but it makes me wonder how many people are gaming the system?

RedMarauder · 20/02/2021 10:25

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

I’m in Yorkshire.
There is unequal vaccine supply within the country and even within cities.

I know 60+ year olds called up in London while they were still officially vaccinating 70+ year olds.

They were given appointments at short notice with a maximum notice of 24 hours that they were to be given a vaccine appointment, and ended up going to vaccine centres that weren't the nearest ones to their homes.

Sleeplessinsaltend · 20/02/2021 11:25

I work supporting vulnerable people, sometimes in their homes... well did, what’s left of our team are now wfh. We are looking at a phased return so I was offered the vaccine a few weeks ago. I’m pregnant, had covid and about to go on maternity leave so have left mine for someone else. I was a bit Hmm to be offered it when I have older family still waiting who are much more at risk.

Sandgrown1970 · 21/02/2021 14:46

Here in Blackpool staff are NOT checking at the centres.

I now directly know 10 ineligible people that have had it. Started when one of DH’s mates found a local link (not the NHS one) and started sharing it on Social Media. He showed up first (40s, no underlying health problems, not a carer) wasn’t asked questions nor was he asked for any proof. Booked his wife and kids in using the same link the following weekend (40s fit, healthy wife and kids from 18-26 years old) and they got theirs no questions asked. They are all working from home or on furlough. No caring responsibilities. Would not be prioritised an other way. He’s now been sharing the link on SM and saying anyone can get it, no questions asked. By mid week, his entire extended family (nieces, nephews, cousins etc) will have all had theirs.

It clearly states on the link that you shouldn’t book if you aren’t eligible. He says “what’s the harm if they aren’t checking? We’ll all get it eventually.”

DH (and I) have politely declined and said it feels dishonest and we’d rather wait for our turn. He’s now not talking to us!

My nail lady sent me the same link this morning via Messenger. There must be a lot of people doing or having done the same.

DH is a South East Asian 50 year old secondary teacher with Type 1 Diabetes and a heart condition. He’s still not eligible via the NHS link or his surgery. Yet we’ve got young people in their late teens and 20s working from home or not at all just rocking up and lying when their risk of death or severe illness is very low.

I do wish the Blackpool and Lancashire staff were running proper checks at these centres.

MintyMabel · 21/02/2021 14:54

I've booked mine and my husbands. I'm not under 30 but am in the group which wouldn't be vaccinated for a long time yet. If I'm asked by colleagues I'd mention I'm being vaccinated but wouldn't share with them my reasons for being vaccinated now. It's none of their business. But I will say, I needed to provide evidence when booking through the NHS system.

poppycat10 · 21/02/2021 14:55

@HereIfYouNeedMe

I wouldn't do that, thank you. I'm asking how and why they've been able to book it? You've said they can't but they have. I wanted to hear from someone who knows why
They can because they have an underlying condition. The previous poster did explain why Angry
Andbearsohmy · 21/02/2021 15:02

It's really not ok. My school sent out a NHS link for us to book a vaccine. This link was clearly for people who work in social care! (Not the main booking site) 🤨 It was incredibly easy for my colleagues to book appointments by lying and saying they were eligible. About 1/4 were given the jab when they arrived and 3/4 were turned away- I guess it depended on who was checking the IDs. As much as I think teachers should get the vaccine, I think it was awful of the school to encourage people to lie to get it.

Pastanred · 21/02/2021 16:20

Andbear

This is exactly what I’m saying
Plenty of eligible companies like the nhs and councils and schools are sharing links to all and sundry allowing non eligible people to book

Perhaps the gps ask for evidence but the vaccinated centres near me certainly don’t

I know friends who’ve openly admitted they lied and weren’t asked

People in their 20s working from home

With this particular link, provided to specific eligible companies, it’s presumed those attending are edible

vjg13 · 21/02/2021 17:21

The social care/health worker link has been widely shared with teachers who have booked the vaccination when not eligible. In Greater Manchester there were reports in the local paper last week of one school and some of the LEA's have contacted head teachers to ask them not to share. It does seem to be widespread across the country with teachers doing this so perhaps it's coming from the Unions.

mumsneedwine · 21/02/2021 17:25

I don't know any teacher who has had the vaccine, unless in group 6 or over 65. I'm a teacher me and would really like it before standing in front of 180 kids a day. I'm 53. Nothing for me or any teacher I know.

vjg13 · 21/02/2021 17:30

I would really like my adult severely disabled daughter to have the vaccine too, especially as she is 3.7 times more likely to die from the infection but I won't be booking her a slot that she isn't eligible for and then lying when we get there.

Sandgrown1970 · 21/02/2021 17:38

None of the people I know who have had it via the link are teachers. A few are unemployed, all bar one working from home
or alone, one is a private cleaner, a couple are students studying online. One is a Slimming World Consultant which is all
Online at the moment. Someone who works for the NHS gave her the link.

The greater Manchester link is not the same as the Lancashire and Blackpool one either.
It doesn’t actually ask ANY questions. It’s freely available if you search on Google. I’ve just checked and if I wanted to queue jump I could book in for a vaccine at the mass vaccination centre in town in 15 minutes time. Loads for the rest of the week too.

Sandgrown1970 · 21/02/2021 17:46

I’ve actually just proceeded on to see how easy it is to book and I’ve seen there is a box to check that

“ I confirm that I am clinically extremely vulnerable, an eligible member of front line health and adult social care staff, or provide care for someone and they or you receive funding for that care”

and

“If you are a frontline health and adult social care worker please provide the name of your employer. (You will need to bring your work ID to your appointment):”

But as of the past hour they definitely have not been checking for proof or ID on site.

I feel even more angry now knowing that these people actually checked a box knowing they were lying. Before I was trying to tell myself DH’s mate and his wife (who is a good friend of mine) just misinterpreted the guidance. But they’ve deliberately lied.

vjg13 · 21/02/2021 17:54

Sandgrown, I know exactly how you feel as I know someone who has done as you described and received the vaccine. I was shocked and it has made me question their integrity.
