Vaccine for healthy 30 somethings

Husband knows of 3 people now who have 'booked their vaccines online' it's really bugging me as the NHS online system clearly states only to book if you're eligible. None of these people are! How are they doing it? Do you know anyone who has done the same? I'm obviously not going to book mine as I'm not eligible

@Tyranttoddler

How could you know if they're not eligible though?
Only going by what DH has said an implied so I wanted it clearing up in my own mind that's it not a common knowledge free for all, all of a sudden! All good 😊

@Winecurestiredness

im only 28 but look much younger, more like 17 apparently Hmm. i got offered the vaccine because i had lymphoma (immune system cancer) two years ago, stem cell transplant, nearly didnt survive. 2 years later by some miracle i dont look awful like i did then. Can you imagine the looks i had when i was lining up with the over 70s a few weeks back?! Grin Blush
Oh bless you!! What a scary time for you ☹️ Glad you've got yours! 😀

It's absolutely possible to lie and say you're a health or social care worker on the website and access an appointment, however as others have said you do need to provide ID and evidence of eligibility on arrival - mine was checked very thoroughly - so they're unlikely to actually get the jab. If they're not lying about their employment then the only way it would let them book is if they've been assigned to the relevant priority group on health grounds.

Perfect thank you!

When DH said through the NHS? To him he said I don't know, my auntie booked it for me. Haha, I'm dropping this one

In my area the local hospital has a booking line. Every so often we hear of people being able to get a vaccine who should’ve be able to, I think it depends who answers the phone sometimes. I know of situations where people have told lies to get booked but other people have been asked to prove it. Bonkers and wrong.

Wingingit15 · 19/02/2021 17:55

Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe these people don’t want to talk about the ins and outs of their personal circumstances with your partner ?! They shouldn’t have to justify themselves if they have health conditions, no one should.

boredinthouse · 19/02/2021 18:05

I'm going for mine tonight, I'm late 30's but healthy. I don't talk to people about the fact that I get carers allowance for my son so nosy busybodies possibly will assume I've jumped the queue. I haven't.

Pastanred · 19/02/2021 18:11

you can book if you have a link shared by nhs staff. I know loads who are sharing it and have successfully been vaccinated. I've been offered it twice but refused

Pastanred · 19/02/2021 18:12

no evidence needed on arrival

Thoughtcontagion · 19/02/2021 18:15

Same here, I’m 36, I work, no health conditions apart from a few extra lockdown pounds but I’m chipping away at that, but i receive carers allowance for a relative and am her registered carer. However that’s no ones business. I have a medical condition that doesn’t make me someone that would shield , again I don’t need to justify or discuss this with anyone. They do check at the clinic you have to take work ID, payslips or letters from your employer

Have you read my posts? Don't be so rude! Talking to me like that!

My query has been answered so thank you to those who have done so 😘

Exactly. And you shouldn’t feel you have to justify yourself, it’s irritating people feel they need to question it.
BloomRoses · 19/02/2021 18:42

I'm in group 6 and having the vaccine next week, when I told people (including family members and close friends) none of them understood why as I'm in my 20s and look healthy/normal, but I have an underlying health condition that makes me CV to COVID. My health condition is something I completely forget that I even have as it has no symptoms and doesn't require any treatment, I didn't even know the name of it until recently.

nordica · 19/02/2021 18:46

As others have said, it's not possible to book online if you are not eligible - you have to put your NHS number in to check. I know because I tried after hearing a lot of healthy 30 and 40 somethings in my local area had been invited and I wondered if I may get mine too - the automated system just says you are not eligible at the moment, please wait to hear when you can book.

They would have either had to lie (and risk being found out when ID is checked) or they are eligible for some reason.

Pastanred · 19/02/2021 18:56

It is not possible to go online and just book if not eligible

However there are lots of links that were went to nhs eligible staff which do work for anyone

Nhs staff are shaping these with friends as family so perhaps they got the link that way

Some councils were sent the link too to pass onto those working with vulnerable members - they too can be shared and accessed

It’s wrong but it defo is happening

Butterfly44 · 19/02/2021 19:01

How do you know they aren't eligible? The criteria on booking in is very clear. If you are saying they are lying on the form then it will be picked up for sure when they attend if it's not in their NHS record and they'll be sent away.

I see a lot of threads like this and it's starting to annoy me. It's no ones business. Why should you know what someone's health situation is. Just because someone looks young and healthy doesn't mean they are. It's a very long list of conditions. Also they could be a carer for someone - they are also in group 6 and being vaccinated. Stop being a busybody.

gallbladderpain · 19/02/2021 19:04

Everyone is suddenly an unpaid carer to their elderly neighbour/friend etc around here this week. Openly discussing online that you don't have to prove who you care for so just say you care for 'insert whatever human you wish'
Unfair to those who genuinely are caring for elderly or vulnerable family members, obviously they can book as well but if this increased booking leads to shortages and delays on supplies

AnneWeber · 19/02/2021 19:08

99% of people who die of covid are over 50, so I really hope there aren't CFs under 50 jumping the queue who are not eligible. Even if they do get turned away for not having proof they are still wasting a slot

Pastanred · 19/02/2021 19:17

Gall bladder - that's exactly whats happening here
everyone saying their a carer

There are no checks at the big vaccine centres round here

AnneWeber · 19/02/2021 19:22

That's worrying as it's going to delay it for people at higher risk, some of whom will be in schools very soon or have kids in them

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/02/2021 19:22

In my city there are 5000 on vulnerable list and the city received 400 vaccines this week. Which means it will take to the end of May just to do the vulnerable never mind the 50-65 age group.

But yeah it’s great that 30 year olds are lying to get oneHmm

Letmeout21 · 19/02/2021 19:36

I booked online, ticked the social care worker box and nobody asked for proof or anything when I got there. Just showed my booking email. So technically, yes, people could lie.
