Vaccine for healthy 30 somethings

Husband knows of 3 people now who have 'booked their vaccines online' it's really bugging me as the NHS online system clearly states only to book if you're eligible. None of these people are! How are they doing it? Do you know anyone who has done the same? I'm obviously not going to book mine as I'm not eligible

@gallbladderpain

Everyone is suddenly an unpaid carer to their elderly neighbour/friend etc around here this week. Openly discussing online that you don't have to prove who you care for so just say you care for 'insert whatever human you wish' Unfair to those who genuinely are caring for elderly or vulnerable family members, obviously they can book as well but if this increased booking leads to shortages and delays on supplies
Here, unpaid carers are only called in for vaccine if they are registered with the GP as a carer (which we need evidence to do)
gallbladderpain · 19/02/2021 19:43

@HazeyJaneII
That seems most sensible or for people who receive carers allowance etc but its just been opened here to anyone age 18+ who cares for a disabled/vulnerable/elderly person and i presumed unpaid carers would have to have that approved by a GP but no you just go online and book into a vaccination centre no questions asked.

HazeyJaneII · 19/02/2021 19:57

Ah, you can't book online here either (not for group 6) - you get called by surgery.
(As I did today...but had to postpone, as it's Pfizer....waaaaah!)

Are you sure? Because I'm meant to be in group 6 but clearly miscoded, and can't just register online. I could claim to be a frontline worker, but there was no option to.click as a carer - surely it needs to be coded by the GP?

ClarasZoo · 19/02/2021 20:12

If someone is prepared to lie to get a vaccine then they probably are too selfish to follow the lockdown rules too so actually I probably want those selfish people to be vaccinated to stop spreading it around...

ShutUpaYourFace · 19/02/2021 20:14

I got a text message this evening inviting me for a Covid vaccine. I thought it was a scam. I'm 45 with a high bmi but not over 40. I have no other underlying health conditions and I'm not and have never been a carer.
I checked out the link and the text is from a local surgery, it asks for me not to contact my own surgery. My mum says I should just book but I want to know why I'm getting it before her. She's 20 years older than me but registered at a different surgery. I'm baffled.

vjg13 · 19/02/2021 20:22

OP, some schools in my area have been sharing a link via email with their staff which allows health and social workers to book directly with the large hub in Great Manchester and then using this. I knew of this anecdotally and it was reported in the local press today about another school which has done this. This allows school staff to queue jump. There were also reports of this in one of the London boroughs a few weeks ago.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 19/02/2021 20:35

Some areas have a different make up to others.

So areas with low population of elderly people will have moved onto CEV quickly, and therefore will be moving on to lower age groups sooner.

Letmeout21 · 19/02/2021 21:00

@vjg13 health and social workers can book directly through the website anyway. They don’t need a special link. Anyone can access this.
This is why there was lots of confusion with early years staff last week.

vjg13 · 19/02/2021 21:48

Letmeout21 the link is being used by teachers and school staff to book vaccines they are not yet eligible for.

tangoboxing · 19/02/2021 21:55

"... presumed unpaid carers would have to have that approved by a GP but no you just go online and book into a vaccination centre no questions asked."

Unpaid carers (group 6) can only book through their GP they are not eligible to book using the online system - that's currently only for >65s, ECV and paid social & health care workers.

Pastanred · 19/02/2021 22:07

My mate booked online at a large vaccination centre as an unpaid carer

She’s not a carer but said she was to get the vaccine

GeorgeandHarold66 · 19/02/2021 22:18

Our local hospitals are giving out links to eligible people. The problem is, once a genuinely eligible person has that link there's nothing to stop them sharing it with others. Then once they've shared it, those other people can book and apparently the hospitals don't check eligibility at the appt. they just assume if you're booked on, you can have it.
Doesn't seem like a very fair system as the most honest people will wait the longest. A lot of people don't seem to have a problem with it though 🤷‍♂️Hmm

Haffiana · 19/02/2021 22:19

This is the new curtain twitch, isn't it?

This board is filling up with random people claiming that they know of healthy 26 year olds being vaccinated, and 100s of people are falling for it, and whinging about UNFAIR.

It is just a repeat of the 'my neighbour is having parties' and 'I saw someone buying just a cucumber in the supermarket' and all the rest of the shit.

annabellacomestotea · 19/02/2021 22:22

I was invited for mine. I am 31, normal (low end) BMI, no underlying health conditions, not front line or key worker etc. I have PCOS and generalised anxiety disorder but I would be surprised if those qualified me as being 'vulnerable.'

callmeadoctor · 19/02/2021 22:24

Yes you absolutely can book online with NHS site, tick the box that says u are a frontline carer. Our place didn't even check if it was really me (as in photo ID or anything). its not right, but if you are desperate and think you are eligible the I can understand why you would do this.

callmeadoctor · 19/02/2021 22:26

I was eligible, by the way. I took in evidence just in case.

Kitkat151 · 19/02/2021 22:27

Unpaid careers can book through any of the nhs trust links where I am in the NW......they appear to be family and friend links and are being widely shared.......they just have to take evidence of the person they care for’s condition
Davidrosen · 19/02/2021 22:31

There was a glitch this week with a link that went round and people could book. But all the appointments were cancelled. Hospital in the NW.

callmeadoctor · 19/02/2021 22:40

No checks at my hub, not even photo ID.

HazeyJaneII · 19/02/2021 22:46

@Pastanred

My mate booked online at a large vaccination centre as an unpaid carer

She’s not a carer but said she was to get the vaccine

Wow! Really?! Is this one of the mates who are all having parties and mixing indoors and not bothering anymore...

or are you on a wind up?
(I hope you're on a wind up)

Masterpieceontheshelf · 19/02/2021 23:06

Firstly, we are nearly getting to the point where it doesn't matter what order people are getting jabbed, we all need it eventually.

Secondly some of the criteria of getting invited to get a jab are things that people might want to keep on the qt.

Eg mental health problems, learning difficulties, living in a 'poverty postcode' etc

Dontrainonmyparade · 19/02/2021 23:19

We do check ID and (if applicable) proof of frontline H&S care role in the centre where I am based. It’s actually horrible to have to turn people away every day, and it puts the the staff in a really difficult position - we get that people are desperate to have it, but we can’t override the JCVI priority groupings and being confrontational and arguing about it is really not what we want to be doing/are there to do. Most people who have booked online and ticked a box that they aren’t really eligible for don’t argue with us, and will just leave the queue quietly. Some argue, and that just makes it worse for everyone I think, we can’t change the group eligibility, so please don’t ask us to. I can’t answer for everywhere but where I am the senior management directive is very clear and we follow the rules.

You may well find that these people who have ‘booked’ don’t actually get to have the jab.

Eurovision · 20/02/2021 08:05

I had mine yesterday and can confirm that they checked where I worked and that I am who I say I am. People without the evidence were turned away. So easy to book on line but hard to get in the building.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/02/2021 08:10

Firstly, we are nearly getting to the point where it doesn't matter what order people are getting jabbed, we all need it eventually

Except the JVC don’t think this. And the over 65’s and majority of underlying conditions haven’t been vaccinated in my city. Even though they’re priority.
