Vaccine offered to all 16-65 year olds at my GP

Surprisevaccine · 18/02/2021 18:37

That's what's happened at my GP and I had mine today, 27 no underlying health conditions. Has it happened at anyone elses?

Wasn't expecting to receive it until the Autumn!

OP posts:

I was incredibly lucky, I got a leftover vaccine - Pfizer. Just to be clear, our surgery had 5 spare from the 500 patients done that day. All who were booked were jabbed.

I got given my 2nd appt at the time for beginning of May.

I didn’t phone or ask to be put on a waiting list, I have been volunteering at the surgery to help guide patients through (lots of standing in rain and snow 🤣) so think this is why I was asked if I’d like to have one of the “overs”.

We are working our way through the 65+ and CEV currently.

On a side note, people are pretty pissed off —jealous— that I’ve had it. I wasn’t expecting it and did question if someone else should have it but I was there at the time and would prefer it wasn’t wasted!

Using up vaccine which might be wasted is common sense. Standby lists for people who can simply "get there" makes sense, especially if you give the standby slots to public facing workers.
Its younger people being actively called whilst only a couple of miles away higher priority groups can't get a slot which doesn't make sense.

Timeforredwine · 19/02/2021 08:57

Got text to ask me to book Feb & May for exact same time of day for each and specific dates already set for exactly 12 weeks. Had first one.

Timeforredwine · 19/02/2021 08:58

Am 55 but due to a condition now non existent from over 30 years ago I was told I was in at risk category presume group 6.

Lactofreemeatballs · 19/02/2021 09:02

I know of a 16 year old who has had one as they volunteer with a charity which works with disabled children. Great for them - but I wish my 60+ year old support staff at my special school would be called in instead!

Firkinhavinalaugh · 19/02/2021 09:02

@C8H10N4O2
I hadn’t realised the differing areas were so wide when it came to the offering.

In my mind it would be better to perhaps call some of the older (45+) and then give the 2nd vaccine to Group 1-6.

I’m only a cog in the parking/direction wheel Grin so not aware of the full machine.

Lactofreemeatballs · 19/02/2021 09:03

It's also frustrating that some the OT and speech therapists we work with have had theirs as they are NHS - even though they are working remotely and we are doing their sessions for them!

Ginandshinythings · 19/02/2021 09:13

In my area in essex early years workers were eligible for the jab, rightly so as they cannot socially distance. However from next week they can't get jabbed, apparently they were put in the social care sector by mistake?
I think it was always going to be like this, different areas moving at different rates but I'd much rather this happen than any vaccines being binned.
I live in a village with a high eldery population and the uptake has been great, always a good queue outside the pharmacy for their jabs.

VinylDetective · 19/02/2021 09:27

@Midlifephoenix

Depends on the patient list of each GP i guess. I'm group six and haven't been contacted, but a few friends who live nearby but different GP have had theirs.
I wasn’t contacted by the GP. I got a letter that was generated centrally suggesting I booked my appointment online at a hub.
C8H10N4O2 · 19/02/2021 09:35

I hadn’t realised the differing areas were so wide when it came to the offering.

Nor had I until we started talking about it at work. I had assumed my examples were just blips and some of those are inevitable. It feels as if the volumes have ramped up but the controls/logistics haven't kept up tbh but that was always going to be difficult with a highly fragmented org.

wonkylegs · 19/02/2021 09:37

@thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter they have redirected supplies to other areas who were behind.
DHs hospital was vaccinating loads of people but had to stop the other week completely as their vaccine supplies had been redirected to other regions
I'm frustrated as I'm in group 6 as I'm immunosuppressed and have been told I can't check that my (incompetent GP) has put me in the right category. They don't deal with my treatment or medication the hospital do and their records are shockingly disjointed. I just have to wait and see.

Firkinhavinalaugh · 19/02/2021 09:41

We’ve got amazing NHS workers at my centre, they are so efficient and they only do 2/3 days per week.

I imagine if we had all those able to jab, all vaccines available and drs and volunteers around we’d whizz through the entire nation at double the pace Smile

pommedeterre · 19/02/2021 09:42

Same county as OP here, groups 5 and 6 (including me) being done at the moment. No-one else being called for vaccines.

Firkinhavinalaugh · 19/02/2021 09:43

I think on the other side of this, some surgeries are going to have a lot of questions to answer.

There might need to be a bit more management training...... some are obviously useless and I really feel for those groups who are suffering because of it.

skinwalker · 19/02/2021 09:45

I am 51 with health conditions, I assumed I would be in group 6 but have heard nothing about an appointment. NW

Scarby9 · 19/02/2021 09:45

Round us Group 5 are just being booked in to the hub (an hour away).
Down South my brother (Group 6) has just been done.
My friend, thought to have cancer which is thougt to have spread, who is waiting for hr operation date, is Group 9 and so scared of getting Covid before her op or while in hospital.

RandomGrammarPun · 19/02/2021 09:54

I really can't believe that the situation of people totally fit and healthy aged 16-65 being offered a vaccine is anything other than a massive cock up.

Leftovers at the end of the day, given out however they see fit, one thing.

People having underlying health conditions that they didn't realise put them in category 6, another.

Areas having got through all of categories 1-9 and then just randomly moving onto "everyone else" I just don't believe. The JCVI hasn't even decided who should come next after cat 9 is done (the over 50s) so I really don't believe surgeries or hubs have made an autonomous decision to do so.

RandomGrammarPun · 19/02/2021 09:54

Sorry, I should have said 16-49 in my opening sentence.

That's quite concerning as I didn't think the vaccine was licensed for under 18s.
Firkinhavinalaugh · 19/02/2021 10:05

@RandomGrammarPun the lack of clarity of “who is next” is really frustrating. It’s also REALLY divisive.

I have friends who are fuming that I’ve been vaxxed. Same age as me, believe I should have turned it down/let it go to waste as it’s “not fair”. (And I’m only just below 50! Maybe that’s why???)

TrickyD · 19/02/2021 10:09

Thanks, MadisonAvenue for explaining why our 17 year old (not 16 as I said upthread) has been offered a jab but not his sister.

His 15 year old sister wouldn’t be offered it as it isn’t licensed for under-16 year olds.

That makes sense, but the whole thing seems very random. His dad, 48, has heard nothing. The theory is that an admin person saw that grandson’s name is Alfred and assumed he was an OAP.

Agree with this.
time4anothername · 19/02/2021 11:08

@KeepWashingThoseHands

I’ve been invited next week, 42. I do have a health condition (blood clotting disorder) but didn’t consider myself in an at risk category as slim and healthy otherwise and it’s controlled with meds. Partner same age with serious asthma but another surgery same city, heard nothing. Go figure.
One of the major dangers of Covid is the increased blood clotting it causes, so it is really good you've been invited.
GinPin2 · 19/02/2021 12:48

@oakleaffy

Please don't class every county south of London as being like London /SouthEast
We are way behind in the South West ( Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset ) and not at all wealthy like London. In fact, many deprived areas.
We are lucky though in having fewer cases.
And you are very right, it is just not fair. Sad

MRex · 19/02/2021 13:24

Some of you seem to be letting this get to you. The OP is likely either classified vulnerable and doesn't realise (e.g. had gestational diabetes) or making it up.
