And counties like Australia and NZ have a no covid policy, how on earth will we integrate? I know the UK is too far gone. But how will we be allowed to travel if we keep getting vaccinnes but they don't always stop transmission because we have constantly new strains?

Or do you think other countries will give up on no covid policies too?

What will happen in Auz and NZ if a sizeable percentage of the population don't want to be vaccinated? What will they do?

Do they have significant numbers of anti-vaxxers?

NZ and Aus will still be better off than e.g. France or USA where there is high vaccine scepticism + high covid.

Apparently yes. Japan is also a vaccine-hesitant country.

Oh look, vaccine hesitancy in South Korea too (~25%-40%).

Lelophants · 14/02/2021 17:02

Do we know why they are so antivax? Always curious to know.

@Oaktree55

Aus/NZ etc will open up once they vax their populations.........and then their problems will begin!

We’ll be in a stronger position then and tables will have turned.

Exactly! Especially if it's like flu where the vaccine takes the edge off and doesn't stop people dying, getting sick or spreading it.

" tables will have turned."

I doubt it. Reducing border controls will certainly result in outbreaks, but with a mostly vaccinated population they are likely to be limited in scale.

I do think that countries like Oz, NZ, Taiwan, S Korea, Japan etc. should get on with rolling out the vaccine, for the sake of the citizens of their countries who are harmed by long-term travel restrictions. Going abroad isn't just about "holiday" jollies---some of us actually have family overseas as well.

I tend to think the Australian health system might do well to send some ICU people to the UK or Spain/Italy/US for some experience. That article about travel mentioned the poor preparedness of their regional hospitals.

There will be a lot of NHS junior doctors willing to travel to Australia for a year if they want, exploring the prospects for their future.
