Group 6 - unpaid carer - Have you been offered the vaccine yet?

DumplingsAndStew · 13/02/2021 17:22

I've seen some areas are starting to offer to group 6 already.

Is anyone here eligible in this group as an unpaid carer and been offered it yet?

If so, would you mind saying which NHS Trust you come under?

Thanks.

Pennine Acute and no I haven't been offered it yet. Going to check with GP on Monday.

Comefromaway · 13/02/2021 17:39

How do they know you are an unpaid career? Asking for dh who cares for his mother with dementia and my parents who are carers for a 90 year old lady.

They've said several ways, but primarily anyone in receipt of, or eligible for, the carers allowance, or anyone registered as an unpaid carer with their GP.

Does it include carers of disabled children with LDs?

frippit · 13/02/2021 18:04

I'm registered as my husbands carer at our GPs, and I haven't been called for my jab yet.

Comefromaway · 13/02/2021 18:17

I think for carers allowance you have to not be working? The last my parents look after gets Attendance Allowance as dies mil but no one gets carers allowance.

My parents are registered with lady’s drs as having POA for medical and my husband is down as a career with his mothers Dr as a safety thing in case anyone reports him for her visiting us for respite) but our Dr is in a different health authority.

I had my first vaccination last night; I’m in receipt of Carer’s Allowance for my teenage daughter, who is registered blind, and I’m also a carer (unpaid and with POA) for my parents, who are both CEV. I didn’t get an invitation from my GP practice, instead I got a general email from an organisation that works in partnership with my local authority to represent the interests of disabled children and their parents. I got the email at 4pm and I was booked in for 6.25pm but actually had my jab at 6.10pm as I arrived early!

I'm in Devon and I receive carers allowance. I wasn't sure if I was registered with my surgery as a carer but I found a quick online form on their website to let them know. I'm not sure if they're already on Group 6 in my area yet.

Starlightstarbright1 · 13/02/2021 18:34

I registered as a carer for my ds at gp.. but not heard anything yet

Boulshired · 13/02/2021 18:39

They are apparently starting on Monday here, but I know DS2 paediatrician has sent email to GP of children he views as high risk of either their health or the amount of support needed if their carers fall ill. So hoping it will not be too long.

ofwarren · 13/02/2021 18:42

Yes, I had it 2 weeks ago. Lancashire

TheCuriousMonkey · 13/02/2021 18:44

You definitely don't need to be in receipt of carers' allowance to be classed as a carer for group 6 purposes. I think I saw that on Carers' UK and will try to dig out the link.

And it applies if you care for a disabled child, it doesn't have to be an adult.

I'm a carer and I also work so don't receive carers' allowance. I'm registered with my GP as a carer and apparently in group 6. My group 5 mum got her jab this afternoon which makes mine feel that bit closer (same area).

cookiemonster5 · 13/02/2021 18:47

There was a post on a carers page saying due to a slowdown in the roll out of the vaccine there will be a delay in offering the vaccine to group 6.

I think they are making sure they can get the first groups their 2nd injections in time first.

Butterfly44 · 13/02/2021 18:51

@IdesMarchof
Yes It includes unpaid carers. Not all carers receive a carers allowance which is a type of benefit. So if you are a carer for a child that has a disability you are eligible. You should be be registered as a carer with the GP. They would have a list of all registered carers to contact as they go through group 6.

AgntOso · 13/02/2021 19:01

@IdesMarchof yes it definitely applies to carers of children. Contact your GP and make sure you're do
an as a carer. Contact a family did a great post about it on facebook if you're on there, showing the legal side and how to challenge if the GP refuse.

Comefromaway · 13/02/2021 19:03

Dh has talked about his caring responsibilities to our dr as it’s contributed to some mental health issues he has counselling & medication for. I didn’t know if anything is officially recorded though.

TalskiddyTreacleMiner · 13/02/2021 19:03

I'm not but a friend is and she had her's today.

Flossie44 · 13/02/2021 19:05

I had mine yesterday. Unpaid carer for disabled daughter. I wasn’t called. Instead I made contact with a local pharmacy.

Comefromaway · 13/02/2021 19:09

My parents are 66 & 67 and not been called yet.

WithASpider · 13/02/2021 19:37

I'm an unpaid carer in Birmingham, 40, and had my first jab 4 weeks ago.

SmaugMum · 13/02/2021 19:39

www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/eligibility

There’s a few misconceptions about the eligibility for Carer’s Allowance on this thread so I’ve posted the link to the Gov.UK information in the hope that it may help people here who may be eligible but think they aren’t.

mommybear1 · 13/02/2021 19:54

I had mine today - unpaid carer for DF registered as such at the GP's I was contacted 2 weeks ago but couldn't get an appointment until today. Birmingham and Sandwell NHT.
