What is the issue with blood thinners? (I have a blood clotting disease but never heard of anything....)

Lynora · 12/02/2021 08:30

My mum has had the vaccine and has been on blood thinners for years?

Biscoffaddict · 12/02/2021 08:31

My Dad is on blood thinners and has had the vaccine.

Cactusowl · 12/02/2021 08:31

My mum takes warfarin and had her vaccine this week. No one said she shouldn’t.

clairethewitch70 · 12/02/2021 08:32

Mil on warfarin has had her vaccine

Littlegoth · 12/02/2021 08:33

Yes he can. I have APS and most of us are on blood thinners. The vaccine companies have confirmed we can have it.

Littlegoth · 12/02/2021 08:34

Just means they need to be made aware when you go so extra precautions can be taken, monitoring etc.

OpheliasCrayon · 12/02/2021 08:34

That's what I have. Im on blood thinners at the moment as I'm in hospital but I'm not usually as it goes. So I'm assuming either way the vaccine is ok with APS?
Ohalrightthen · 12/02/2021 08:35

I'd speak to a health professional before getting distraught - the government has just vaccinated the population demographic most likely to be on blood thinners, with no mention of contraindications. I think you're probably getting upset over nothing.

Finfintytint · 12/02/2021 08:35

PILs are on Warfarin and they’ve had their jabs. They just need to go to their clinic for a check a couple of weeks later.

PurpleDaisies · 12/02/2021 08:36

Who has told him this?

nether · 12/02/2021 08:36

They ask about blood thinners at vaccination clinics.

Perhaps you need individual approval if you are on them? Is your DS CEV? If so, then ask about safety of vaccination for him at his next hospital appointment, or ring/email specialist nurse to find out.

He may need to be done at a hospital rather than at a regular clinic

Hoppinggreen · 12/02/2021 08:37

Sdad is on a high dose of warfarin and has had both of his vaccines

WeatherwaxOn · 12/02/2021 08:38

FIL has been on warfarin for years and has had his jab.

Apandemicyousay · 12/02/2021 08:40

We just press harder for a minute and warn you of haematoma. Definitely not contraindicated. If on warfarin would ask if you’d had INR check in recent weeks and if generally stable; if on rivoroxaban/apixaban etc would just give it. Green book on vaccinations is clear can be given.

YanTanTethera123 · 12/02/2021 08:42

I’m on blood thinners and having the jab tomorrow.

StarCat2020 · 12/02/2021 08:42

Seems odd, OP drops a bomb and then disappears.

21 year olds aren't likely to be vaccinated for ages anyway.

ChancesWhatChances · 12/02/2021 08:43

Pointless scaremongering Biscuit

m00rfarm · 12/02/2021 08:44

Maybe she means she thought he would be a priority and he’s not.

Okokokbear · 12/02/2021 08:48

Who has told him this? Loads of older people are on blood thinners and will have had it.

Florelei · 12/02/2021 08:53

If you have been told this I would genuinely ask for a second opinion. I know lots of people who are taking all different types of blood thinners who have had the vaccine. Including my DM.

Ellmau · 12/02/2021 08:57

Maybe OP means she thought her DS would be vaccinated with the vulnerable group and he isn't going to be, rather than he can't ever?

FossilisedFanny · 12/02/2021 08:57

Do you mean he can’t have his jab before all other 21 year olds because he’s on blood thinners? Or he can’t have it at all ?

Oaktree55 · 12/02/2021 08:58

They’ve vaccinated hundreds of thousands of people on blood thinners (anti platelets through to anticoagulants). Think your information is wrong.

hashbrownsandwich · 12/02/2021 08:58

You can have the vaccine with blood thinners but it depends on your levels/readings.
