Feels like Government has abandoned us

They've just disappeared.

We have no idea how long we are locked up for.

Why is this?

OP posts:
Wannabangbang · 11/02/2021 08:50

stealthpolarbear maybe so, but how will the Nhs cope if this were to happen? The government has already made the Nhs crumble, who would be there to save you in such a crisis? They'd have to choose between who has the ventilator and who doesn't. I really think lockdown needs to stay as it is based on the above alone.

Lovesacake · 11/02/2021 08:56

My understanding is that we’re nowhere near fully vaccinating the vulnerable...they mostly all still need the second dose. I’m quite confident that when that has happened plus three weeks we will see a big relaxation of the restrictions.

Goodbye2020Helllo2021 · 11/02/2021 08:58

Glad you're all ok with it.

‘It’?
They’re on the news briefing us all the time.
We have a date for a review - 8th March.
What do you want them to do OP?
Of course I’m not ‘ok’ with everything being shut or watching the NHS crumble or hearing that more people are dying but ‘it’ is not within anyone’s control.

Goodbye2020Helllo2021 · 11/02/2021 08:59

The virus does it’s own thing.

unmarkedbythat · 11/02/2021 09:01

You clearly have internet so go to a few news sites and you'll see the government haven't "disappeared".

Goodbye2020Helllo2021 · 11/02/2021 09:01

borntobequiet
Well put!

SeldomFollowedIt · 11/02/2021 09:04

@Dustyboots

Hope you’re okay 💐

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2021 09:06

"stealthpolarbear maybe so, but how will the Nhs cope if this were to happen?"
How will the economy cope if this were not to happen?

frumpety · 11/02/2021 09:25

A lot of Trusts have had to increase their critical care capacity just for covid patients, and also have wards for those who are not critically ill but need supportive treatment with covid. I can't think of another time or any other illness that has required this on such a scale, since the NHS was founded ?

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2021 09:32

Im sure I could produce similar lines about the economy if I knew enough.

Okokokbear · 11/02/2021 09:34

@Dustyboots

Yes, well. I'm feeling a bit strange at the moment.

Aren't you?

As @PickAChew said. They're shit but the haven't been silent. So you saying glad you're all OK with it. Is saying we're OK with a thing that isn't happening. It doesn't make sense.
KatherineJaneway · 11/02/2021 10:34

The next big announcement is on the 22nd February. This is when the plan to open up again will be revealed.

A few years in primary schools will open first I suspect from the 8th March and it will go from there.

unmarkedbythat · 11/02/2021 11:16

TBH I think with vaccine rollout going as it is, we will see increasing lifting of restrictions and reopening of things like schools as spring progresses. But the government can't really say so- time and time again the country has shown a large mass of the population are entitled ballbags who will think that if restrictions are due to end on, say, 1st May, they may as well do exactly as they please now.

vickibee · 11/02/2021 11:21

Surely it is better to open GCSE pupils first, the little ones have longer to catch up

Oblomov21 · 11/02/2021 11:28

I'm so angry. 2 friends came back Dubai and Madrid on business. They said the covid tests in Madrid and Dubai airports were efficient, and results back in 20 minutes.

Gatwick on return ? Nothing. No test. No temperature. Nothing,

Where's Matt Hancock and his hotels to quarantine then? Not even any tests.
Shambolic.

Why are we all bothering at home, when they aren't even protecting us from what's coming in?

unmarkedbythat · 11/02/2021 11:35

Why are we all bothering at home, when they aren't even protecting us from what's coming in?

Surely if they aren't bothering at airports that's even more reason to bother at home? If the government inaction increases the risks of further community transmission, the response to that should not be "well we should do what we can to increase the risks further".

This.

Especially with both half-term and Easter coming up soon.

Lollipop1234 · 11/02/2021 12:58

@Gliblet

Where you do expect them to be? On your doorstep with a bell and a loudhailer?

Early on, they gave firm dates. Everyone planned around them as though they were realistic, and then howled with rage when the government had to backtrack because they're not in a position to predict how something like a virus will behave with any real degree of certainty. Cue people tearing their hair out and ranting about having to cancel or change plans.

Now they're trying to give guidelines rather than set dates and everyone's raging about the lack of certainty.

What everyone's really pissed off about is being stuck in a shitty situation with no real certainty about how it will turn out and we're not used to being this far out of control, but even not having someone to blame seems more frightening at the moment than being able to fall back on the usual causes of problems and complications.

This ^
Oblomov21 · 11/02/2021 13:42

How is it ok that they aren't 'bothering' at the airports?

poppycat10 · 11/02/2021 13:46

Have you watched TV and listened to the radio with their stupid nannying adverts?

"Are you sure you are going out for exercise and not just meeting friends"

"Look them in the eye and say you've done all you can to prevent covid 19".

What a waste of money.

poppycat10 · 11/02/2021 13:46

2 friends came back Dubai and Madrid on business

So much "essential" business going on. What happened to video calls.

VaVaGloom · 11/02/2021 13:47

It's not ok at all @Oblomov21 they have been completely incompetent about the borders throughout! People keep saying its a virus that will do it's own thing - but the Government keep giving it a helping hand by not implementing testing at airports/quarantine (for everywhere)

I heard of someone who went on a business trip to Austria skiing 🤷‍♀️
the80sweregreat · 11/02/2021 13:57

I'm no fan of this government , but they haven't disappeared at all! There have been numerous interviews and briefings and the 24 hour news channels means we hear from someone in the cabinet at least once a day. The PM was on yesterday at 5 pm for about forty minutes taking questions from the public and press and the scientists also have been on tv individually and on the local news.
I know it's been mixed messages sometimes and not always clear , but I don't think you can accuse them of not telling us things about the measures in place and the vaccine programmes or you can look online at the news there too.

Dowser · 11/02/2021 13:59

@Dustyboots

Yes - probably I am. I'm so bloody busy working and home schooling.

Glad you're all ok with it.
