I thought vaccines were our way out??

Why are we introducing travel restrictions now? And why are we being told things won't be back to normal by the summer/not to book any holidays abroad?

I thought the vaccines were our way out of this mess?

What needs to happen to get us back to normal? I thought once hospitalisation numbers are greatly reduce and the NHS can cope then that's that?!! We were never perusing a zero transmission policy, we were pursuing a don't-overwhelm-the-NHS-policy, or am I missing something?

@Harmonypuss

DuchessofHastings ....

When you say about the over 50s being vaccinated "they can all fuck off" ...... do you mean the over 50s or the government?

I'm over 50, I had my first jab last week, I don't think I know you and highly likely haven't done anything to you in my life, so I hope you're referring to the government!

The government, definitely the government. I've done my bit for society and the NHS. Once the over 50s are vaccinated, I'm not wearing a face masks and seeing more people. Enough is enough now.

Numbers greatly reduced? Have you watched the news? The last few weeks we've had the HIGHEST DAILY DEATH since the outbreak began.

The vaccines are not very effective, which many people would have realised.
We can't even get the flu vaccine right and we work on that every year for figure years. At least the dialogue has changed to be more honest - the vaccine is being used to reduce deaths rather than stop you getting covid - none of the vaccines do this.

If our govt had acted properly a year ago and listened to WHO and their medical advisers and acted in our interests rather then trying to make money from giving made up contracts to newly made up companies to provide on existent profits and services, we would not be where we are today - one of the most contagious high mortality rate due to covid places on the planet.

Oh - and if people stuck to the rules - we'd have been back to a fairly normal life 4-6 months ago.

FYI @MadMadaMim

coronavirus.data.gov.uk

Deaths have been falling for weeks. The vaccine is effective at reducing risk of hospitalisation and death in the more vulnerable groups which will take the pressure off the NHS (this is what we were aiming for). I'm not sure where you're getting your information from but I think you need to look elsewhere.

@bumbleymummy

Deaths have been falling for weeks
What do you mean by weeks? The last 2 weeks maybe. Before that, for some time, we had our largest recorded covid related deaths since the pandemic began. Falling does not = an OK level

The vaccine is effective at reducing risk of hospitalisation and death in the more vulnerable groups which will take the pressure off the NHS (this is what we were aiming for)
A long winded way of saying what I said

I'm not sure where you're getting your information from
Official sources - govt sites, covid sites, ONS, research papers, the medical puvli actions for all the vaccines were using in the UK.

but I think you need to look elsewhere
Please advise. Is there some info source more appropriate than those cited?

You stated ‘the last few weeks’ in your post. That’s what I was addressing.

If you’re getting your information from those sources then I’m not sure why you’ve said what you did in your last post.
