I thought vaccines were our way out??

Why are we introducing travel restrictions now? And why are we being told things won't be back to normal by the summer/not to book any holidays abroad?

I thought the vaccines were our way out of this mess?

What needs to happen to get us back to normal? I thought once hospitalisation numbers are greatly reduce and the NHS can cope then that's that?!! We were never perusing a zero transmission policy, we were pursuing a don't-overwhelm-the-NHS-policy, or am I missing something?

@myfriendsgivebadadvice

I have?

Have you actually read the post you have written"it's not a perfect virus for our vaccine"absolutely no one has ever suggested its perfect

"Were losing grips on a virus because of its ability to mutate" what like you mean like all viruses do?

They're ramblings of a mad woman.

Lincslady53 · 11/02/2021 18:31

In Nov and Dec, the press were pushing the government not to cancel Christmas. The gov gave the ok for families to meet up, with provisos to take care, don't hug, don't spend days cooped up in the same rooms with no ventilation. Add this to the mutations and we had the post Christmas surge in infections. After 6 weeks of lockdown the press have now started on Summer. This is a dangerous virus that no one controls. We just have to be patient. I will not book anything this year until the last minute.

AppleKatie · 11/02/2021 18:40

Politicians have the eye on the next election. They need to come out of the crisis as heroes.

So tell us it’s misery and everything is over forever now- as a strategy for keeping us confined now not in the future.

Once summer comes they can say ‘didn’t we do well’ off you pop to Spain and/or cornwall.

Which is better than promising the best summer ever, people hear that and relax and mix now. Disaster continues to strike and they have to row back on promised freedoms.

Dustyboots · 11/02/2021 19:01

I knew the promise of vaccines getting us out of this was B*llocks.

Can everyone finally see this now?

Not sure whether it’s about shifting goal posts/false promises to keep us going/make us think humans are in control

I have no idea.

Enjoy your day. I can't read your posts because Mumsnet deletes them first and frankly, that's probably a good thing.

AMidsummerNight · 11/02/2021 19:36

I'm with you you, user2021...if we're still under restrictions in summer it will just be absolutely ridiculous. We can't be in lovkdowm forever, we need a better long term way of dealing with it. In my opinion people have suffered enough due to lockdowns; physically, mentally and financially. Easter is the cut off point for me in terms of doing something different.

@Followthelarch

Yes, you're totally missing dangerous variants from overseas for which the current vaccines may be less effective for but I think you know that really don't you
They are just changing the goalposts but you keep telling yourself that if it makes you think you are clever

Like they've deleted yours? Thank god.

Build a bomb shelter in your back garden and stay there until the mutant zombie variants end...but seeing as this virus like any other will continue to mutate, I guess it will be never. Take plenty of gin. Gin

Though I am a muzzle sheep. I do stick to the rules though I despise it.
Once the over 50s are vaccinated, they can piss right off.

I'm having my first vaccine on Saturday.

I'm not going anywhere, just to piss you off.

I thought it was a don’t kill people policy
But apparently tour holiday is more important than people’s lives 🤷🏽‍♂️

I thought it was a don’t kill people policy But apparently tour holiday is more important than people’s lives 🤷🏽‍♂️
It was a ‘don’t overwhelm the nhs’ policy but now it seems to be changing to a ‘don’t let anyone get sick or die from this ever’ policy.
ChristmasIvy · 11/02/2021 22:18

@AppleKatie I agree with you entirely. People have very short memories and are swayed by the headlines of the day/ week. Last summer many of us enjoyed holidays and we didn’t even have a vaccine then! In just another month the outlook could be entirely different. I predict a MUCH more positive spin on things by April/ May.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/02/2021 22:20

I think it has gone from a don't overwhelm the NHS in case you or your loved ones need it.

To vaccinations are going brilliantly. Pat on back but oh pigging hell the bugger has got a little more slippery than we would like. This is not going to be quiet as quick to sort out as first planned. Don't worry though because we have are top soap grabbers on the case.

Then in the background the media are running around banging bin leds together shouting BE AFRAID, DOOM, THE UK IS A JOKE, etc

Harmonypuss · 12/02/2021 00:41

DuchessofHastings ....

When you say about the over 50s being vaccinated "they can all fuck off" ...... do you mean the over 50s or the government?

I'm over 50, I had my first jab last week, I don't think I know you and highly likely haven't done anything to you in my life, so I hope you're referring to the government!

Mamanyt · 12/02/2021 00:56

You are, indeed, missing the variants, as well as the fact that until everyone is vaccinated and has (at least temporary) immunity, the danger of flare-ups here and there remains.

bumbleymummy · 12/02/2021 01:18

@Mamanyt

You are, indeed, missing the variants, as well as the fact that until everyone is vaccinated and has (at least temporary) immunity, the danger of flare-ups here and there remains.
People who have had the virus abc recovered also have immunity. We’re not trying to stop anyone from getting ill, we’re trying to reduce pressure on hospitals. ‘Flare-ups’ aren’t a problem as long as they don’t result in huge numbers of hospitalisations, which we shouldn’t have because we’re vaccinating the people most likely to end up in hospitals.
