Oh right - well in that case that’s good, as it means that the reported case numbers should be quite accurate? And therefore low?

Boph · 23/02/2021 11:46

Does anyone know what they are looking for in testing vaccines on children since we know they work in adults, is it the dosage?

MargaretThursday · 23/02/2021 11:48

Move from 10-14 days is probably not too bad. Most people show signs within 10 days, so I imagine that won't make too much difference.

@ceeveebee I wonder though whether you would find more inclined to test if they don't think it's covid, which would bring down the positivity rates. I know of a number parents of primary school and below who have, when they and their child have shown symptoms, they've only tested themselves, and assumed the child is the same as them.

Firefliess · 23/02/2021 12:41

I think it's mainly about checking they're safe for children.
piggywaspushed · 23/02/2021 12:44

hardback when my friend tested positive for covid they told her that although her toddler had tested negative, she almost certainly had it (and had probably given it to her mum as she had symptoms and mum didn't at that stage !) as toddlers results are rarely accurate . They must be so hard to test!

NuttyinNotts · 23/02/2021 12:49

The change in outbreak definition seems very sensible, given the evidence coming out that the Kent variant might shift the window of infectivity a bit later. It should pick up more linked cases that would have previously been excluded under the 10 day definition.

lurker101 · 23/02/2021 13:01

The change in definition to 14 days also brings it in line with what some other regions have been doing - NI have classed care home outbreaks as at least two cases within care homes over 14 day period, and clusters at education or workplaces etc. as at least two cases within 14 days. I’m not sure how Scotland/Wales have been recording it, but this seems sensible.

Hardbackwriter · 23/02/2021 13:31

I'm sure it's true that accuracy rates are lower for tests done on toddler @piggywaspushed - it certainly is hard to do them on them - and maybe that means that for this group it's particularly important to look at trends over time rather than the actual numbers?

CoffeeandCroissant · 23/02/2021 13:55

Take up of vaccinations by staff of older adult care homes in England: 69%

Varies by region obviously, with London lowest at 51.9% and South West England highest at 74.5%

Some staff ineligible due to having had Covid19 in the past 28 days, but that doesn't make a huge difference to the numbers.

Does anybody know where I can find this info for general population? or a calculator?

Estimated probability of death given infection:
Estimated probability of ICU admission, ventilation:
Estimated probability of hospitalization:

MRex · 23/02/2021 15:03

They all went up with the new variant, though whether that's increased transmission of the variant itself is uncertain. Either way you'd need to be careful which data you look for, but best to look up data for Kent B.1.1.7 variant rather than overall in the pandemic if it's the UK you're interested in.
I haven't read in detail for you, but these should have the answers: www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n230 or www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00299-2.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/02/2021 15:32

Gosh coffee 51.9% is incredibly and disappointingly low for adult care home staff in London.

MRex · 23/02/2021 16:05

I wonder how much that rate will increase to be honest. I just checked and it was only end of January in my area when there was a general booking availability set up for care home staff; and that relied on lists of names being sent in. It looks like there had been confusion about how care homes apply and who was eligible, because all staff weren't there on the day the residents were vaccinated. It's pretty opaque about what was confusing, to whom and why. Anyway, so it might take a few weeks for all other care home staff to register and get vaccinated. I'm sure there are a few refusers, but the numbers may be lower.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/02/2021 16:06

Positive cases 8,489 - last Tuesday 10,625
Deaths 548 - last Tuesday 799

ILookAtTheFloor · 23/02/2021 16:07

Just read the email update from Zoe, they've recalculated their figures down, the algorithm was muddling the jab side effects with infections.

I'm surprisingly relieved about this! Now around 9000 daily infections according to Zoe.

CarrotPuff · 23/02/2021 16:09

Very nice numbers today!

Ok that sounds reassuring then.
ceeveebee · 23/02/2021 16:45

Vaccinations disappointingly low for the last couple of days -sub 200k. Hopefully these will kick up again as we get later in the week. Always seem a little lower on Sundays and Mondays.

Sorry going to copy and paste this. Hope you don't mind
ATieLikeRichardGere · 23/02/2021 17:02

Matt Hancock said this is a low vaccine supply week so expect more of that.

Otherwise encouraging numbers today and good news about Zoe!!

MRex · 23/02/2021 17:04

@JanFebAnyMonth - Sorry to disappoint, but it may vary by borough, digging into it, this article points out an issue in Barking (only 25% vaccinated) and Enfield: www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-55797819. The vaccination maps here suggests there's lower take-up for over 80s in NW London from Enfield across to Havering: <a class="break-all" href="https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/coronavirus--covid-19--caseswww.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-55797819" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">data.london.gov.uk/dataset/coronavirus--covid-19--caseswww.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-55797819.
It might be useful to get per council percentages and dates as part of messaging; a "next door 90% have had it and they're fine" approach.

Teachingmymonster · 23/02/2021 17:04

Any idea what is happening in Much Hadham area? Rates seem to be very high.

Our staff all got vaccinated at a local hub. From what I've heard confusion sums it up. Fortunately they all managed to get it but I can understand why some might give up or be delayed.

Downward trajectory continues in England, although very much driven still by London, South West, South East and East in particular. Just to be clear all regions falling but those four at a faster rate.

Just has a quick look at the MSOA data. 375 had a suppressed figure last week (so between 0 and 2 cases) as compared to 133 the week before. Data published today, again with a five day dashboard lag, shows 753 for the past seven days. Mid October las time we saw a figure like that.

37th highest MSOA in England for the most recent seven days. Is there some surge testing going on there?

Although at least 28 cases in a week is still lower than a month ago

Seems very localised - all the other East Herts MSOAs look ok.
