Is anyone actually going to follow the rules from spring?

It will have been a year since being allowed to properly see friends and family. Even in summer last year you still had to social distance so seeing family was difficult, and some areas had tighter restrictions throughout. Everyone I know is going to see family and friends from spring, regardless of what restrictions there are. I am too. The government do know that most people won’t stick to it from then, right?

Is anyone on here actually going to not see family at that point? I know Mumsnet seems to be full of people who are happy to isolate for years if need be, but are you actually going to?

I've followed up until now and will continue as long as needed.

The virus can't spread and mutate while we stay home. The only chance of a virus extinction is for us to hunker down long enough to end it. People getting bored and deciding they don't have to bother will rules will cause another surge and more new strains then we are back to the beginning again. So just get on with staying in and get this over as fast as possible!! No body likes it, we want to be free again but that will be further and further away the more people are selfish.

Take it from a fit healthy mum - i had covid badly and it was hell, I watched kids be sicker than ever in over 15 years. It was awful. Don't put people through that because you don't want to do the right thing.

By implication, you have been following “the rules” so far.

Why on earth would you stop? I have no doubt the rules will be relaxed as an when it makes sense for behaviour to change (based on experience to date, it’s quite likely they will be relaxed too soon, in fact).

If you believe the rules have saved lives, I see no logic whatsoever in deciding at any point that the rules at that time no longer save lives.

If you don’t believe the rules to date have saved lives, well there is nothing more to be said.

I can “legally” form a bubble with my parents when my baby is born in a couple of months. 👍🏻

No doubt a Mumsnetter will be along shortly to tell me how I’m irresponsible and everybody will die. 🙄

Furries · 10/02/2021 19:08

@hbcrfvr - am assuming you didn’t mean to tag @Freud2 with your backbone comment?

But it is not possible for everyone to stay at home. So this isn't realistic.

Extinction of the virus is not the aim here.

Yes they do, I did on my First Aid course in august 2020, we all had a separate Annie and blew into her

Twillow · 10/02/2021 19:09

Of course.
Not doing so makes you seem rather dim, or unable to follow rules like an adult, or both.

EVERYONE will die. How will you feel then, having the extinction of the human race on your conscience?
Fembot123 · 10/02/2021 19:09

Hunker down! Fucks sake 😂

As a healthcare worker who has just spent 12 hours vaccinating people, some of which have barely left the house since March, some with tales of losing loved ones to covid. I despair and the attitude of some comments, like because you're fed up with how long its been, you're going to put yourselves and other people at risk and hope for the best!?
Its this selfish attitude and people bending the rules that has been half the problem for the UK throughout the pandemic! Angry

maggiemuff · 10/02/2021 19:10

Definitely not

It’s more dim just to blindly follow without questioning.
fantasmasgoria1 · 10/02/2021 19:11

My sibling will be having their vaccine this week because they live in a supported setting due to severe mental illness. They are fairly physically healthy it's just to protect the multiple household members. I shall be seeing them in the spring.

Hmmm, I thought it was generally primary schools that have rules? "Adult society" has laws.

Following the law, fine. Following the rules aka guidance, perhaps not.

And calling people "rather dim" is a touch on the supercilious side.

Who do you imagine they will be risking and how?

I suppose it’s down to your priorities ... stay socially distanced- or risk death.

Walk outside of your house and risk death.

Cross the road and risk death.

Get behind the wheel of a car and risk death.

I really wonder how people like this, living in fear of an illness with a fatality rate well under 1%, are going to cope once normality returns. And it will.

But what about the mutations? What about Long Covid?!

I wonder about this too.
