Is anyone actually going to follow the rules from spring?

It will have been a year since being allowed to properly see friends and family. Even in summer last year you still had to social distance so seeing family was difficult, and some areas had tighter restrictions throughout. Everyone I know is going to see family and friends from spring, regardless of what restrictions there are. I am too. The government do know that most people won’t stick to it from then, right?

Is anyone on here actually going to not see family at that point? I know Mumsnet seems to be full of people who are happy to isolate for years if need be, but are you actually going to?

I will carry on being careful. I walk outside with one friend at a time at the moment, which means I see friends once or twice a week. I’m vaccinated, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still transmit the virus, so to protect others, I’ll still be following the guidelines.

Cookies2015 · 10/02/2021 17:41

Nope

BeAtPeace · 10/02/2021 17:41

I will continue following the rules - I want to stay safe and to protect others.

BonnesVacances · 10/02/2021 17:42

Yes we are going to follow them. Somewhat reluctantly, but I don't want this to last longer than it needs to, and people continually breaking the rules isn't going to get this virus under control any sooner.

Mandelinka · 10/02/2021 17:46

Absolutely not. I had mixed feelings about the steps taken by the government from day one and was more and more sceptical as the year progressed.
I'm very happy to see the responses on this thread, definitely lifted my mood as I feel like I'm not alone in feeling we definitely had enough of restrictions and our liberties need to be restored.

abas · 10/02/2021 17:47

I'm going to wait till my family are all vaccinated - I'd feel dreadful if someone succumbed to the virus before then because of one of us.

user1472151176 · 10/02/2021 17:49

I think they'll lift it more by April anyway. By April almost everyone over 50 and clinically vulnerable will have had their first dose and a lot will have had their 2nd. By April I'm hoping the NHS will be in a much better position. I think over the next couple of years shops will be a similar scene of masks and distancing but I think we will be allowed to start mixing again. I hope so as i have a grandchild to meet in the spring.

ClaudiasWinkleMan · 10/02/2021 17:49

For fuck sake. This will be going on forever if everyone keeps doing what they feel like because their tired of it now. We’re all fucking tired of it. But the more we mix the more chance we give the virus to mutate and the harder it is for vaccines to work. If everyone has your attitude we’ll face more school closures, more economic hardship and all the other shit from having to lockdown repeatedly.
Just look at the countries that went for zero Covid, who sucked it the fuck up suffered hard lockdowns for shorter periods and are now pretty much back to normal.
No one wants this shit but as long as we have people just mixing and doing whatever the fuck they like the longer we all suffer this shit.
I really feel for NHS staff working themselves into the ground dealing with the effects of people being bored of following rules and getting sick. When do they get to say fuck it? Grown up.

I do wonder whether mumsnet is monitored by the government with posts like this

Vintagevixen · 10/02/2021 17:50

I will be seeing my parents from May onwards when the booster vaccines are done etc no matter what the government mandates.

The data from Israel re. vaccines reducing spread is highly encouraging. plus it will be spring and this is clearly a seasonal virus, so numbers will be very low by then.

looopy2411 · 10/02/2021 17:51

. Yes it has been hard especially in winter etc but why risk it now and risk infection rates rising again. The vaccine is being rolled out quickly. I would much rather stick it out to avoid further restrictions down the line. We don't want to be in the same situation end of the year again!!

Annipoos · 10/02/2021 17:52

Yes, I have totally followed the rules and will continue to do so until I am fully vaccinated. I think a lot of people haven't experienced anyone close to them dying of covid so they are beginning to think it won't happen to them. Stay safe my friends xxx

steph2412 · 10/02/2021 17:53

I really hope people will follow the rules, I will continue to do so as i have from the very beginning. I have had my vaccinate but my family have not and are not eligible. The faces of people I care for at work every day fighting for their lives is etched in my memory and serves as a reminder that it is not worth meeting friends. These people are not all older with under lying health conditions, some of these people and young and healthy and find themselves wearing hoods for hours on end to keep them alive. I would rather continue as we are for as long as it takes if it means my family are protected.

Harmonypuss · 10/02/2021 17:54

I'm disabled and live alone, my partner lives/works about 170 miles away and I've not seen him since June 2019!

We're both in our 50s. He had covid over xmas and I had my first jab a week ago, so technically, in a couple of weeks there should be nothing stopping us from seeing each other because we'll both have some degree of immunity.

We intend to see each other by the end of the month, we'll not be harming anyone else by doing so, we won't use public transport etc etc.

Enough is enough now, I want my life back!

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 10/02/2021 17:54

No

VinylDetective · 10/02/2021 17:55

Just look at the countries that went for zero Covid, who sucked it the fuck up suffered hard lockdowns for shorter periods and are now pretty much back to normal

They all closed their borders. If we’d had the sense to do that last March we’d be back to normal too. Fuck all to do with lockdown.

Lunaticmess · 10/02/2021 17:56

Given that I know people who work in healthcare and have died from Covid despite having the 1st vaccine, yes I will. Nothing has changed until we know how successful the 2nd jab will be. It really triggers me how selfish some of you are. But as long as you're okay, we get to stay in this mess for a bit longer.

Mamafaye · 10/02/2021 17:57

Nope. Sick of it all. For those of you that are “following the rules forever and ever” grow a backbone and get on with life. Use common sense, be respectful, mask etc, but go see your bloody friends and family! Enough is enough!

Freud2 · 10/02/2021 18:01

I am 70 years old and my friends and Family have had our their first vaccine. I think we’ll probably meet up indoors in a couple of weeks but social distancing etc and just one or two at a time. The risks are low then to catch it or to transmit the virus. We have to learn to live with a small risk.

user1472659696 · 10/02/2021 18:02

They’re not rules - they’re law.

Ilovewolfblass · 10/02/2021 18:03

Already given up!
Only thing i currently aint doing is eating in restaurants or going to bars as they are shut!

TheSparkleJar · 10/02/2021 18:04

No, we all need to start rebelling - and using your own judgement as we did over Christmas which as we now know worked out so well - so that cases and deaths can go up again, and we can have even more pandemic fun!

Hmm
MonthofSunnydays · 10/02/2021 18:04

Yes, I will still follow the rules. The pandemic doesn’t stop just because we are all bored of it. The same people who are planning on ignoring the rules are the same people who will blame the government when covid rates go up and death rate goes up. Actually, we’d probably out of this sooner if people did actually follow the rules.

TheHoneyHunt · 10/02/2021 18:04

No. Had it in the first round so immune. Been following rules since out of solidarity, but we only have one life and it’s time we started living it again. Those at significant risk have been vaccinated already and I am not a risk to them anyway.

godmum56 · 10/02/2021 18:06

yes I will be following the rules. Do you not realise that you will be putting the people, you say that you love and miss, at risk?
