Is anyone actually going to follow the rules from spring?

It will have been a year since being allowed to properly see friends and family. Even in summer last year you still had to social distance so seeing family was difficult, and some areas had tighter restrictions throughout. Everyone I know is going to see family and friends from spring, regardless of what restrictions there are. I am too. The government do know that most people won’t stick to it from then, right?

Is anyone on here actually going to not see family at that point? I know Mumsnet seems to be full of people who are happy to isolate for years if need be, but are you actually going to?

@TheKeatingFive Honestly, this comes across as very dramatic. If you’re high risk you’ll be vaccinated very soon. If you aren’t, your chances of not living to see your children grow up are minuscule.
All ECV have been told to shield even after both vaccines. They have no idea how effective the vaccines will be for our demographic. So no, not dramatic. Count your blessings.

LucasLeesEyebrows · 08/02/2021 22:21

Isn’t the projection that the majority of the population will be vaccinated by May? If so then the government is really going to struggle justifying not allowing people to mix.

TheKeatingFive · 08/02/2021 22:22

Is the poster in question ECV?

Besides, I thought ECZ were covered in stage 3 trials.

Naturally the government want people to be cautious, but one would wonder why they’re throwing so much money at vaccines that don’t work for the people we need them for?

Spiratedaway · 08/02/2021 22:24

April
28th parents 2nd vaccine 3 weeks later I am hugging them 13 months not hugging is enough

borntohula · 08/02/2021 22:24

No, why should people waste their lives anymore, who knows what might happen that isn't covid? I don't have enough friends for a huge murdery gathering but I'd like to see the ones i do have and I would like to see my very unwell dm (who will be vaccinated).

So are you saying that extremely vulnerable people will never see the light of day again? What’s the point in being vaccinated? Could you not say the same for the various flu viruses which circulate every year - those vaccines are definitely not 100 percent effective?

PinkSkyBlue · 08/02/2021 22:27

I have followed the rules since the beginning but finding myself slipping out now and again. As we all know, the government should have sorted this from the start. Were all massively fed up.

noimnotdoingit · 08/02/2021 22:27

Not a chance. Am making plans already.

The "deal" was a few weeks last year, then again, and again, and again.

Enough now.

And most of my friends with primary kids and FT jobs have said they will absolutely refuse to homeschool again.

bluejelly · 08/02/2021 22:28

I will follow the rules until it's safe enough that we don't need them. I've actually got used to this weird half life that we're leading now!

Yes, all groups 1-9 by May. There’s no way they will get most people to keep to restrictions after that. I really don’t understand those saying they’ll not see family for years.

Absolutely not. And no, me not following the rules won't make this go on longer either.

DappledOliveGroves · 08/02/2021 22:30

No. I've never agreed with lockdown. IMO liberty is of most fundamental importance, above and beyond 'safety'. This isn't living, this is Groundhog Day.

LizzieMacQueen · 08/02/2021 22:30

@Cloudsurfing - With all due respect I think a lot of people are planning to follow the rules; the fines are pretty off-putting.

Frequentflier · 08/02/2021 22:31

Nobody is saying years. Depends on how you define 'spring; I suppose; the govt has the same problem:) If you mean April, I am going to hold out till then to see friends ( no family in this country), because I likely won't have had the vaccine by then.

mrsknottschicken · 08/02/2021 22:31

Yes, I’ll be (mostly) following the rules because I think we will all be in this mess just a little bit longer (or maybe a lot longer) if we don’t.

However, I said (mostly) because I do take my daughter out for a walk twice a day with the dog. I think her mental and physical health are more important than an arbitrary rule saying we must only go out once. We live in quite a rural area with woods behind our house. We can go out and see no one so I genuinely don’t see the harm when we’ve not had anyone inside our house for months, she hasn’t seen her friends and nobodj in this house does the meeting up with one other person outdoors thing even though that is now allowed. DD doesn’t even go on a playground if it is busy. Since lockdown we haven’t even driven anywhere local (as in 15 mins or so) for a walk in a different place so really I think more than one walk a day is not doing any harm....

southeastdweller · 08/02/2021 22:32

I haven’t been following them for months apart from wearing a mask to avoid aggro from others.

Are they though? That’s what I was wondering. Because I don’t know anyone that is, and looking on this thread lots won’t be.

QueenofLouisiana · 08/02/2021 22:34

Yes. Between us we come into contact with around 4000 pupils each week (when schools are fully open). I’m not risking passing on anything.

Cloudsurfing · 08/02/2021 22:35

@mrsknottschicken there is no rule that says you must only go out once per day.

Yes

Redbrickwall · 08/02/2021 22:36

No , enough now

sunflowertulip · 08/02/2021 22:36

I will keep following them as I'm sure my friends and family will too. Apart from it being the right thing to do, my husband would likely lose his job if he broke them and was caught (police).

I just really hope the restrictions are relaxed in the next couple of months, desperate for the children to go to school so I can work properly again and to see my family and friends properly.

LizzieMacQueen · 08/02/2021 22:36

@Cloudsurfing - I'm In Scotland, perhaps we're just a more law abiding bunch - or the folk I know anyway.

WillowintheUK · 08/02/2021 22:36

Aren’t you clever. Hmm
