Is anyone actually going to follow the rules from spring?

It will have been a year since being allowed to properly see friends and family. Even in summer last year you still had to social distance so seeing family was difficult, and some areas had tighter restrictions throughout. Everyone I know is going to see family and friends from spring, regardless of what restrictions there are. I am too. The government do know that most people won’t stick to it from then, right?

Is anyone on here actually going to not see family at that point? I know Mumsnet seems to be full of people who are happy to isolate for years if need be, but are you actually going to?

Yes

VinylDetective · 10/02/2021 17:31

@hbcrfvr

Absolutely. Why wouldnt you? To be vaccinated is one thing but plenty of others arent. so consider those less fortunate than you! Rules are there for a reason...they protect us. Thanks to those of you who DONT follow the guidelines. You have helped us to get to where we are today...locked down for the third time. Nice one!
You do know this is complete nonsense, don’t you? Compliance has exceeded the government’s wildest dreams. We’re only just - 11 months too late - making any attempt to restrict people coming into the country and quarantine them. It’s the illogical, inconsistent and ridiculously complex rules that are half the problem.

If you knew that by having a summer holiday / eating out to dine out / bubbling or seeing family and friends at Christmas would’ve led to an extension of all the current restrictions & schools closing would you have gone ahead anyway? The longer people bend the rules to fit the level of how much they’re fed up the longer this will all go on. We could’ve nipped this all in the bud with shorter, harder restrictions. Look at Isle of Mann now free from any measures due to drastic lockdowns yet they were fully adhered to by the whole public in an effort to bring an end to it all sooner.

MrPickles73 · 10/02/2021 17:32

No. Those who are vulnerable will have been vaccinated by then. I am not a hermit crab.

Dandan95 · 10/02/2021 17:32

Haha love this comment

slowdriver · 10/02/2021 17:33

Well it's always been up to the individual since the government has never taken enforcement seriously. And I don't think they will now. The only good news is that statistically those that don't follow the rules are probably slightly more likely to get Covid themselves and a small percentage of them will die, thus proving Darwin right. But each to their own. If you really want this to go on and on and on, knock yourself out and make sure the infection levels stay high by ignoring the rules. It pretty much guarantees that the restrictions will be extended for even longer.
The countries that got on top of it by locking down hard and staying locked down hard until they got the disease under control are now pretty much open: South Korea, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, China, and some other parts of S.E. Asia. The countries that have taken a more "relaxed" or cavalier approach have been locked down for longer and will remain so.

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 10/02/2021 17:33

@IcedPurple actually children who are medically vulnerable haven’t been vaccinated as the vaccines aren’t approved for under 18’s and are a long way off of approval for them.

So, you might want to check your own smuggery TBH

Additionally there are those who are so vulnerable with varying health needs that they’re unable to have the vaccine and need others in the community to protect them.

It’s not smugness. Just human decency.

Oink38 · 10/02/2021 17:33

I’m pregnant. Haven’t seen my family or friends for months. Baby due imminently and may not meet his family for months. So those breaking the rules in my opinion are absolutely selfish. Stick to the rules so we can get out this mess

Lelophants · 10/02/2021 17:33

Oh god so as long as you are vaccinated you will go spreading it to other non vaccinated people?

Come on people, do you want lockdown AGAIN? Please use your brains and look at the big picture!! It's almost been a year of restrictions because people are constantly idiots.

DaddyCool60 · 10/02/2021 17:34

If anyone from the government’s reading all the many posts saying ‘no’ they’ll be justified in prolonging the end of lockdown as a safeguard given this accidental survey. Nice work 👍

Lelophants · 10/02/2021 17:34

It's like people break the rules because they want further lockdowns Confused

Yep. Depressing right?

It’s like some people want us to be locked down for ever.
NewbieB · 10/02/2021 17:35

Until my family have had the jab then of course- i am not being responsible for them catching it.

IcedPurple · 10/02/2021 17:36

Look at Isle of Mann now free from any measures due to drastic lockdowns yet they were fully adhered to by the whole public in an effort to bring an end to it all sooner.

It wasn't due to 'drastic lockdowns'. It was due to the fact that the Isle of Man is a tiny island in the middle of the Irish Sea, with a population smaller than that of Tunbridge Wells.

No major European country - which are the only valid comparisons - is currently free from restrictions, no matter how 'drastic' their initial lockdowns were. Spain, which locked its children into small apartments for weeks on end, had one of the worst resurgences in Europe. Same with France, which also had a pretty 'drastic' lockdown.

sclark7 · 10/02/2021 17:36

I know a 40 yr old seemingly healthy male currently on life support due to covid as it is now attacking his organs causing multiple organ failure. It’s unlikely he’s going to make it as the life support is being removed today, which will mean he leaves behind his 38 yr old wife and 3 kids. So, yes, I shall continue to follow the rules for as long as necessary! The new strains are far worse and are attacking much younger, healthier people.

littlemouse8 · 10/02/2021 17:36

No I won’t be separated from my boyfriend. We both have to work amongst the public exposed to many many germs. If we are both doing that what’s one more set of germs! No I will not put up with it any more. What’s the point of life if you can’t live it.

saffy2 · 10/02/2021 17:37

Yes I will follow the rules. Until the rules are changed. And even then until I feel it’s safe. Eg, we haven’t had anyone in our house at all since last Feb regardless of the ‘you’re allowed inside as long as you socially distance’.

I will follow the rules for as long as they are in place. EVen if that’s another year.
Also I live 300 miles away from my family. Have seen them once now in 18 months, and we camped near them for that 1 time so that we didn’t see them inside and we could socially distance properly.

There are people out there following the rules very strictly. I’m one of them.

timetest · 10/02/2021 17:37

Yes. I don’t want to come out of lockdown and then have to go through it all again a couple of months later.

Ginfizplease · 10/02/2021 17:38

I can't believe what I'm reading. It's because of selfish people like you that I've lost a loved one.

Yes of course I'll be following the rules.
Shame on you all. My future family gatherings will have one less. Hope yours don't end up having to suffer the same.

Utterly shameful. Enough isn't enough if your family and that of others is safe.

jo982 · 10/02/2021 17:38

I have followed the rules pretty much to the letter since March last year a lot of being on furlough has helped as funds have been tight.
But come Easter I will be going to see my family, I live 170 miles away from my mum, brother and sister and it will be one year to the day come February 28th since I've seen them.
We had planned to meet at Xmas but they are London based where as I'm West Midlands so just before Xmas they went into tier 4.
So Xmas and birthday presents still wrapped under the stairs.

I have supported lockdowns and I haven't been taking trips to home bargains or the range for 'essentials' I go to the supermarket once if needed twice a week and we have made our time together at home pass by.
But enough is enough now.

Children probably won't be vaccinated for years, if ever. Although given that the huge majority have few if any symptoms, the chances of 'killing' them are minute.

There will always be some people who can't or won't take the vaccine.

Same for all vaccines and all illnesses.

So what are you suggesting? Lockdown until 100% of the population is vaccinated? Which is never going to happen? Do you want to eliminate all risk from life, or just the risk of Covid?

Mischance · 10/02/2021 17:40

Is anyone actually going to follow the rules from spring?
Of course I am - why would I not? I care about the safety of my family and of others.

There are those who do not care and will break the rules - I hope they get caught and properly dealt with.

Honestly - this is not a joke - this is a virus that has killed millions. How can anyone treat it in such a casual and irresponsible way? If he virus gets the upper hand again, it will mutate more tomes and this will go on and on.

Of course it is miserable and grossly inconvenient and upsetting, but we just have to get a grip and behave properly and with concern for our fellows.

I am in a very good position to know what the lockdowns can do to people's mental health - my OH died at the start of the pandemic and I have had to live on my own since then. I hate it - but I also have the with to know why it is essential.

If people behave irresponsibly this will simply go on and on and on..........

Skyelils · 10/02/2021 17:40

Yes I’m not undoing my safety etc if I can when it’s safer I will

Mischance · 10/02/2021 17:41

"the wit" of course.
