Advising against ‘elaborate’ summer holidays, even in the UK

Just saw this on twitter, after I read something about it on another thread on here.

I thought they were pushing for uk holidays this year to boost tourism?
Also even last summer we could go away in the UK? Surely with the vaccine things will be much better by summer. I’m really confused by it all.

@toocold54

I don’t understand why people would book a holiday right now.

I would be more gutted booking one, looking forward to it and then not being able to go rather than just not booking one and waiting until the following year.

If you want to book one then that is obviously your decision but definitely don’t tell the children.

Lots of people myself have transferred bookings from last summer. So if nobody goes anywhere this summer how do you think the tourist industry will survive. Hotels restaurants pubs ect cannot go on for ever the government also cannot afford to fund them all. There will be very few left to open by next year

I think this summer will be like the rules in the last so rule of six will probably apply and only one other household.
I hope not as I’ve booked to go away with friends but you can’t count on anything right now!! x

I'm sure it's just in case they need to say "we did warn you". It's a drip-drip-drip to keep the plebs in obedience school for a bit longer; one day a drop of hopium, the next a drop of misery, to keep the misery junkies happy.

I'm sure the MPs and ministers have all booked their holidays, will take their lead from Dominic Cummings, and go on holiday no matter what the roolz are (and if any go abroad, will claim the quarantine fees on "expenses").

Holidays for us will involve driving to see friends and they driving through to see us.

Boardeduplife · 10/02/2021 13:53

I wouldn’t book anything abroad but have booked several short no deposit breaks in the uk. They may not go ahead but if things do open up, it’s going to go mental with bookings.

We've rescheduled our trip to the US from last July to this. The flights are on airmiles so cancellable as is everything else. If the holiday ban is rescinded and UK travellers are allowed into the US without quarantine, I think we'll try to go (if it's quarantining at home when we get back and if we've received our first vaccine). I appreciate it's highly unlikely.

We are wondering whether it's slightly more hopeful that we'd be allowed to holiday somewhere in Europe and whether to switch our booking to that. The challenge is that if you leave it until nearer the time when visibility is better, flights shoot up in price and some of the nicer places are fully booked.

We have had many happy holidays in Devon and Cornwall, including one last year. The beaches are beautiful but we were so cold sat on the beach in the wind and rain (in July).

And yes I know holidays are a minor issue but my older son is of the age when he won't want to come with us for much longer so we'd love to go abroad if allowed.

The MP’s are all going to want to go on their jollies this summer. Are they going to vote for NOT being able to do so? I bet some of them will claim the quarantine fees on their expenses. I wonder which will be the first MP to break the law there? And incidentally, I’m surprised NONE of them were snared over Christmas. There must have been some serious bribing journalists into silence.

tessiegirl · 13/02/2021 21:06

Yes they are thick.
Are people aware things are not open? They have no vaccine over there and there is a 8pm curfew for example.

tessiegirl · 13/02/2021 21:07

Why would you risk going somewhere and then bringing it back here? Thick. End of.
