Vaccine Dilemma

Elmo230885 · 08/02/2021 18:12

I've got a feeling I may regret posting this but here goes!

I was mistakenly added to the CV list at the he start of the pandemic (I believe there was a small group of people this happened to). I asked by GP surgery about it and they couldn't help. Each time there is a lockdown or new guidance I've received a shielding letter and also emails. I've been contacted by the children's centre, the local council and the covid help centre (or whatever it's called?) and offered support/help. Each time I've explained I shouldn't be on the list and refused the assistance, priority delivery etc

My dilemma is that as I'm on the list I've just received a letter inviting me to book an appointment for the vaccine. Morally I feel like I shouldn't have it as it feels like I'm taking it from someone else however (1) I work full time as a nurse at a specialist placement which doesn't fall in soon to be vaccinated catagory, (2) despite this we do twice weekly testing which I am primarily responsible for so I'm in contact with around 200 people each week and (3) like many others I worry how I would cope with two young children if me and DH were to get ill. We are both key workers and have DC at nursery with the youngest cared for by my DDad. I have a high BMI and very mild asthma so at a bit of risk from Covid but not loads. I'm also concerned that if I ignore this I'll be missed off the list when my correct time comes.

So I just thought I'd ask internet strangers their opinion...

id take it just now
presumably if you didnt take it you wouldnt get the option when it should be your turn

JayAlfredPrufrock · 08/02/2021 18:14

Have the vaccine.

I was offered it as a volunteer for something I can’t actually do at the moment because of an injury. Grabbed it.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 08/02/2021 18:14

Would your BMI put you in group 6? Also would you mind saying what the health condition is that got you accidentally put in group 4? It may help people advise you better

TheChip · 08/02/2021 18:15

Might as well go for it if you want it

Popfan · 08/02/2021 18:16

I'd definitely have it!

Meredithgrey1 · 08/02/2021 18:16

I’d take it. If you don’t then you don’t know when you might be offered it again.

BubblingAlong · 08/02/2021 18:16

I would get it

Elmo230885 · 08/02/2021 18:19

My BMI isn't high enough to put me in a specific at risk group. I have no idea why I have ended up on the CV list, when I googled it initially I found results about a few 1000 people that had ended up on it. I assume it was a system glitch. Either that or I have a condition I don't know about but that's doubtful.

Apologies for the DM link but I'm assuming this is how it happened.

Take it or you might end up on the list of people who have been offered but declined the vaccine.

Yebanksandbraes · 08/02/2021 18:33

You're a nurse, you're a frontline worker, you should be getting the vaccine at the moment like all other nurses. It's unfair that you're not. You've been invited for a different reason, but should be having it due to your job. Therefore I think you should definitely take it.

Londontown12 · 08/02/2021 18:43

Take up the vaccine 💉 deffo xx

BigGreen · 08/02/2021 18:43

If I were you I'd take it without a second thought

Cornettoninja · 08/02/2021 18:45

Take it.

Followthelarch · 08/02/2021 18:46

Take it absolutely

serialplanner · 08/02/2021 18:49

I think you are overthinking it. With your job your reason is good enough.

Think of it like this- don't want to waste a vaccine and you are protecting the NHS if you become unwell.

Not sure why you are talking yourself out of it...don't worry x

cheeseismydownfall · 08/02/2021 18:53

I would take it simply because of the risk that declining it now may make it harder for you to access the vaccine at what should be the correct time. I don't think your personal assessment of your risk factors is a valid justification - there are other people who will be more at risk that you that do not fall into any of the priority categories.

PuzzledObserver · 08/02/2021 18:53

If you decided to wait for your age bracket, you would not be missed out because you didn’t accept the invitation now. Basically, once you are eligible, you are eligible. This question was asked on something I was listening to the other day, in relation to people who were initially hesitant but later decided they wanted it.

So, you could wait, you wouldn’t lose your entitlement to a vaccine. That will never happen. But if it were me, I would have it now.

Ilovemyhairbeingstroked · 08/02/2021 18:54

Do it !

Daffsareup · 08/02/2021 18:57

If you're a nurse you're entitled anyway. I'd have it in your situation.

Elmo230885 · 08/02/2021 19:05

Thanks everyone for replying. I thought I'd be told that I am morally abhorrent for even considering "queue jumping"!
Hopefully the roll out will continue to be quick and everyone will get their jabs.

OP posts:
NewSummer · 08/02/2021 19:05

As a nurse you are a frontline health and social care worker, even if you’re not in the NHS. Of course you should have the jab.

ButtonMoonPie · 08/02/2021 19:09

In your situation with your occupation I wouldn't hesitate.

Beside the point but if this happened to me I'd be really unsure as I have no risk factors and wfh. So I definitely should be way down the list but would be worried it would flag up as a decline and then wouldn't be offered again.

Bumpsadaisie · 08/02/2021 19:10

Yes - take it. Or you'll go down as "offered but declined"

Grooticle · 08/02/2021 19:12

Definitely take it, otherwise you may not be offered it again. In your role you should be a priority anyway IMO.
