Vaccine Dilemma

Elmo230885 · 08/02/2021 18:12

I've got a feeling I may regret posting this but here goes!

I was mistakenly added to the CV list at the he start of the pandemic (I believe there was a small group of people this happened to). I asked by GP surgery about it and they couldn't help. Each time there is a lockdown or new guidance I've received a shielding letter and also emails. I've been contacted by the children's centre, the local council and the covid help centre (or whatever it's called?) and offered support/help. Each time I've explained I shouldn't be on the list and refused the assistance, priority delivery etc

My dilemma is that as I'm on the list I've just received a letter inviting me to book an appointment for the vaccine. Morally I feel like I shouldn't have it as it feels like I'm taking it from someone else however (1) I work full time as a nurse at a specialist placement which doesn't fall in soon to be vaccinated catagory, (2) despite this we do twice weekly testing which I am primarily responsible for so I'm in contact with around 200 people each week and (3) like many others I worry how I would cope with two young children if me and DH were to get ill. We are both key workers and have DC at nursery with the youngest cared for by my DDad. I have a high BMI and very mild asthma so at a bit of risk from Covid but not loads. I'm also concerned that if I ignore this I'll be missed off the list when my correct time comes.

So I just thought I'd ask internet strangers their opinion...

Nurses should be being invited for vaccines anyway, so I would take it.

ifonly4 · 08/02/2021 19:13

I have two jobs and was entitled to an early vaccine under one of them. Even though I feel there's minimal risk (especially compared to my second job), I leapt at it. You won't be taking someone else's appointment, there will be loads. Every person that is vaccinated will make a difference, it'll give you a real uplift at the time and help protect any loved ones you live with - take it!

DianaT1969 · 08/02/2021 19:19

Take it. We'll all have it soon. You are creating more admin for someone by refusing.

shinynewapple2021 · 08/02/2021 19:30

Take it . You aren't helping by thinking that someone else should have your place , it's the admin of sorting out who is entitled and when that is time consuming so if you don't go when called you will be causing extra admin at a later date .

tootyfruitypickle · 08/02/2021 20:20

Definitely have it. My friends husband is GP and she was jabbed when they had 'spare' . People are getting lucky and it's just one of those things . If you're offered it, take it and don't worry about it

fluffi · 08/02/2021 21:56

Take it

AngryPrincess · 08/02/2021 22:12

Get it. Sounds like it would be more effort for them and you to change it.

Choccorocco · 08/02/2021 22:20

Yes totally agree - go and have it x

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/02/2021 22:24

Take it

Froglette16 · 08/02/2021 22:33

Take it, OP. Perhaps it’s divine intervention? There are lots of reports of people not taking their offered vaccines. You do a critical job. Accept that you are worthy. X

Katie1784 · 08/02/2021 22:41

Flipping heck, just take it. I know a good few people who've somehow had vaccines that I suspect they're probably not entitled to, but better that than them getting thrown away at the end of the day.

Ledkr · 08/02/2021 22:49

Take it. I was offered it as a sw but had already left the job. I was honest but they told.me to go anyway as due to the snow lots of people couldn't get there so they had loads spare which might be thrown away (Pfizer) im 54 and a bit chubby and work in a school as a TA so was glad to have it.

Turnedouttoes · 08/02/2021 22:52

This exact thing happened to a friend of mine and she took it. She works from home and is very low risk and only wants it so she can go on holiday so yes I am judging her but in your situation I think I probably would.

Frazzled2207 · 08/02/2021 22:52

Take it on the grounds that you’re frontline and a nurse- I don’t understand why you haven’t had it anyway given that many non-frontline nhs people I know have.

OakSnows · 08/02/2021 22:52

@Bumpsadaisie

Yes - take it. Or you'll go down as "offered but declined"
Take it, it’ll be harder to get it again.
Frazzled2207 · 08/02/2021 22:54

Also I’d be really worried about not being asked again if I declined.

Horizons83 · 08/02/2021 22:55

Take it. It helps all of society if as many people as possible are vaccinated. The paperwork has already got you in the system, you would probably take more resources trying to get it corrected.

HappydaysArehere · 08/02/2021 22:56

Have it or you I’ll have trouble sorting it out later. Anyway your job is important and involved with patients and as you say you have a family to think of.

ekidmxcl · 08/02/2021 23:07

Have it without hesitation

Kitkat151 · 08/02/2021 23:57

It’s been offered.....take it....you don’t have to justify your reasons to anyone....just book it

Didkdt · 09/02/2021 00:10

Have the test you’re test isn’t depriving anyone no offence meant but it’s genuinely insignificant in the scheme of the roll out

PuzzledObserver · 09/02/2021 12:10

@Frazzled2207

Also I’d be really worried about not being asked again if I declined.
You will not be banned from having it if you decline first time round. Once you are eligible on the online booking site, you will be able to book as long as that site is running. Or you could contact your GP - they will not refuse you because you didn't want to have it when first approached.

That said, I think it would be perfectly OK for OP to take it now.

thelittlestrhino · 09/02/2021 15:02

Adding to the others, if you want to take it, take it!

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 09/02/2021 15:19

As someone in group six, so theoretically impacted by a longer wait if people queue jump, I say take it, especially given your role.

UmbilicusProfundus · 09/02/2021 19:24

As everyone says, take it! Are you able to explain a bit more about your job, as it seems strange/unfair you haven’t been officially offered the vaccine when you are a nurse and have F2F contacts with loads of others.
