Zoom nights out - no babysitters, overpriced drinks, no taxis, straight to bed after.

OP posts:
ekidmxcl · 07/02/2021 16:35

I won’t be doing any zoom nights out 😱
I want some nice food that I didn’t cook!

Mousehole10 · 07/02/2021 16:37

No not staying in my circle! Everyone’s been planning nights out/days out for ages for something to look forward to! None of us want to do another zoom call after this.

XenoBitch · 07/02/2021 16:37

No thanks. I can't wait to sit in a pub with some friends and have proper conversation.

Wingingit15 · 07/02/2021 16:38

Totally agree
Zoom for work
PLEASE NO MORE for play !

SmidgenofaPigeon · 07/02/2021 16:39

HAHA very few people are going to substitute Zoom for lights out long term!!! No way.

inquietant · 07/02/2021 16:41

I do think more zoom for work. Also for big talk etc., I have 'gone to' many more things than I could have done live.

Hopefully no more shaking hands, I thought that gross before.

I hope my local bookshop continues with deliveries too.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 07/02/2021 16:41

*nights out. That’s just won’t happen! What about all the pubs bars and restaurants? They’re all going to go busy forever if Zoom is seen as a better alternative Confused

I won’t be conducting my social life on Zoom.

StepOutOfLine · 07/02/2021 16:44

People thinking the rules don't apply to them.
Abuse of retail staff being seen as acceptable.
Ageism and eugenicist attitudes being seen as acceptable.
Parents justifying allowing their children not to study.
People getting rich and famous because they grabbed a main chance.
Etc

toodleloooo · 07/02/2021 17:09

I was in the hospital the other day and thought it would be surprising if you didn't have to wear a mask in future. Even if there's no obvious outbreak of anything it seems to make sense in a place where lots of people are vulnerable.

Also think lots of people will carry on working from home for at least part of the week and companies will look at reducing office sizes if they can.

TSSDNCOP · 07/02/2021 17:16

An appreciation of just being outside with no limits
An appreciation of the joy of human interaction
An appreciation of simple things such as a quiet pint or cup of tea in a garden with a mixed group
Flexible working location
An appreciation of parents for teachers and vice versa
A root and branch overhaul of the NHS particularly mental health
Never going to a supermarket again

TSSDNCOP · 07/02/2021 17:17

Zoom can fuck off as quick as it likes except for work

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/02/2021 17:19

I’m hoping zoom will stay for meetings and training. Better for the environment to not have people travelling.

Masks when someone has a cold or bug.

Telephone consultations with doctors where face to face isn’t needed.

Masks on public transport, medical venues and larger gatherings.

Shows being broadcast live to make theatre more cost effective for all.

StanfordPines · 07/02/2021 17:20

I hope that things like comedy nights stay online as well as live. It’s so nice to open up stuff like that to everyone.

Hardbackwriter · 07/02/2021 17:22

I have given up on Zoom group social events because they're more depressing than they are pleasant, and hope very much to never, ever do one again.

overwork · 07/02/2021 17:28

None, I hope

LucilleTheVampireBat · 07/02/2021 17:32

No thanks. Not a chance. I would be in a packed bar or pub now if I could.

Alocasia · 07/02/2021 17:38

I’ll keep wearing a mask at work (healthcare field). And as a PP says, maybe/hopefully people will wear masks if they have a cold etc. as they do in some Asian countries.
I don’t like video chat at all though so can’t wait til I don’t have to do those again!

littlepeas · 07/02/2021 17:39

Zoom is dreadful. I did several full days in a row for a training and I ended up with a terrible headache everyday and felt really quite depressed by the end of it.

It’s ok for quick meetings.

It is not in any way a substitute for real socialising.

I hate it even for work most of the time.

I turn down invites to Zoom 'parties', however well-intention. The enforced jollity is depressing and just emphasises how poor a subsutite it is for real human interaction. One to one it's OK, but really, a good old-fashioned phone call is often better than gurning at a screen.

Snap! Just said the same thing! I never feel 'energised' or upbeat after a Zoom meeting - even with people I really enjoy talking to - in the way I do after real-life interaction. It just reminds me of what I'm missing. I've been known to cry after Zoom 'catch-ups'. I'll happily delete Zoom from my computer as soon as I won't need it for work.
bigbluebus · 07/02/2021 17:54

I'm sitting here compiling our weekly Zoom quiz which a group of us have been doing since March 2020. We take it in turns to set the questions. I can't wait for the pub to reopen and the actual pub quiz to restart so I never have to set another bloody quiz again! So Zoom won't be featuring in my social life again once all restrictions are lifted that's for sure!

digginthedancingqueen · 07/02/2021 18:02

I hope virtual parents evening will stay - so much easier.
Also askmygp - online service where you get a reply much faster.
People working remotely when they have colds/ are ill instead of coming into the office.
I also hope the increase in people walking/ running/ cycling will continue - physical and mental health benefits there.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 07/02/2021 18:08

none that I can think of.

Agree. As a single parent it’s v hard to get out in eves so nice to have a possibility of watching things at least
faerin · 07/02/2021 18:28

"Zoom nights" can get to fuck! Getting out, enjoying gigs, supporting local bands and pubs, enjoying drinks with mates chatting shit, going out dancing... I can't wait to get back to these!
