@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Oh the whopping cough one was terrible. I don't know if they hit a nerve or something. Pains running up and down my arm for a week. Couldn't even open a door with that arm it was so ouch.
Terrible isn’t it! I remember being 8 months pregnant when I had it and as well as the baby making me uncomfortable at night I had a sore arm I couldn’t bare being touched! Worth it to transfer those antibodies though, it was endemic in my area at the time.
FourTeaFallOut · 08/02/2021 12:25

The pneumococcal vaccine had me swinging my arm around like an extra on the walking dead for a week. I wouldn't care, I'd had the flu jab in my other arm at the same time. So sleeping was fun Grin. The Oxford was a walk in the park in comparison.

thatgingergirl · 08/02/2021 12:33

1990s I agree with all your points. I'm in group 5 for the vaccine, so should be offered in the next 2 or 3 weeks I guess. I have no qualms whatsoever if it is the AZ.

Wherediditgo · 08/02/2021 12:47

@1990s

People with variant worries... I think there are several reasons to not overly worry.
  • it is not dominant currently
  • in SA where it is dominant, they have not been overrun, cases are still dropping
  • the current vaccine has some effect on it (AZ, as said by Sarah Gilbert, likely same for Pfizer)
  • we dont know how much of an effect, but that doesn’t mean it will be as bad as the MSM is speculating
  • if the vaccine isn’t very effective they are already working on a new version for Autumn that will be
  • in the meantime circulating Covid WILL drop generally due to lockdown and vaccines, so chances of it all going to shit over Spring/Summer are relatively low (see above point about SA cases still dropping)

It’s not what we hoped for, but I honestly don’t think it is terrible either.

Just my 2p.

Brilliant post. The MSM is undermining public confidence in the vaccine. Just today I’ve seen people saying they wish they’d never bothered having it Sad
2020CanDoOne · 08/02/2021 12:51

Checking in late! My Dad had the AZ vaccine last night.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 12:52

It is interesting. As I am lets just wait and see about the SA variant. Nothing much we weren't aware could be possible so they are working on it. A couple of other threads are grating me.

Can white people experience racism and a BAME vaccine take up one. I know we all think differently but some posts have me rather shocked.

I am desperately trying not to get involved

MarshaBradyo · 08/02/2021 12:52

I missed this new one

Thanks for heads up on old one Furries

Sevensilverrings · 08/02/2021 13:09

That potential treatment Sunshinegirl linked to from Tel Aviv looks really hopeful. Wouldn’t it just be amazing if they had found a potential cure? Still lots of testing to do though, obviously...I’m in constant awe of the scientists around the world right now.

Wherediditgo · 08/02/2021 13:10

I think one of the biggest issues we have is journalists (who aren’t scientists) translating science into headlines, which are then read and interpreted by (mainly) non-scientists.

Even bigger issue is that everyone thinks they’re an expert!

MarshaBradyo · 08/02/2021 13:10

@TheChineseChicken

It’s a shame the AZ study in SA was so shit! Really unrepresentative (young, healthy), small cohort. I’m not sure it achieved much other than stirring up panic.
Yes agree
sometimesamazinggrace · 08/02/2021 13:12

Marking my place amongst the positivity! I've been struggling with the news and a sense of despair for the last few days.

MarshaBradyo · 08/02/2021 13:13

Nice report on Israel 50% drop cases, 35% hospitalisation above age 65 - R4

Still seeing rise in younger age group as later vaccine

Very clear trend showing vaccine impact

starfish88 · 08/02/2021 13:14

The worst vaccine I've had was the typhoid one. I had it right before a driving lesson and it made my arm go numb so I had to pull over and the instructor had to put the hand break on and drive me home. I don't think he wanted to get in a car with me again!

The side effects of my sinopharm were pretty mild the first time. Hoping it's the same now, after my 2nd dose.

TheChineseChicken · 08/02/2021 13:24

I know my anxiety is getting bad when my husband blocks access to bbc and guardian via our wifi Grin

Excellent news.

Good to reconnect with this thread!

Furries · 08/02/2021 13:40

@MarshaBradyo - no worries!

Furries · 08/02/2021 13:42

Given I had a short break, I may have missed a post re this somewhere. Have noticed that the coloured bar on Covid messenger showing rising/falling cases summary isn’t there - has it been removed for a reason?

I saw that too. I don’t like to bother littleowl as she must be so busy.
Furries · 08/02/2021 13:59

@DobbyTheHouseElk - yep, definitely didn’t want to interrupt the owl ! Good news is my area was in the top 10 for numbers not that long ago, now it’s slowly creeping down the table.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 14:03

Yes and littleowl isn't popping on to tell us the daily update is ready

I was worried it was because council cases raising bur when you look some are a bit up and down. Mostly only by a small number of cases though. So the overall picture is still good.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 14:05

Top ten. That is good. Don't think my area will get into the top 100. However everything still dropping by 25 to 35 percent a week. So all good 😊

alreadytaken · 08/02/2021 14:08

few comments on the South African study - funded by a competitor (Janssen). Please remember there is a lot of money to be made from vaccines and consider every report with a "what is it in for them" mindset.

Underpowered - a small study so wide confidence intervals. The young rarely get seriously ill so even if they had intended to look at hospitalistions (they didnt) it wouldnt have shown up a small benefit.

Used a dosage regime now known to be less effective so not in use here.

Still raring to get my vaccine.

Furries · 08/02/2021 14:12

Probably didn’t phrase that well ! It was in the top 10 of councils with rising cases, so definitely wasn’t good. It’s now starting to creep down the list, I’ll take a positive wherever I can find one. We, too, are a fair way from even being near the 100 mark.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 14:27

Oh dear. I have a habit of jumping to conclusions or making bad jokes. Sorry Furries.

Well at least the numbers are going down that is the main thing.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 08/02/2021 14:27

Just marking my place.

It’s been snowing really heavily here. I’m just waiting for my taxi to turn up so I can go and get the Pfizer jab. Really nervous as I hate needles!
