Poll on compulsory covid vaccination in 2021-2023

lljkk · 06/02/2021 12:41

I don't know what real policy will be, I just wondered about gauging the range of views of readers on this board (chance for lurkers to reply). I will summarise replies if more than 20. Which of the below policies is closest to your own preference, about what the covid vaccination policy should be, for UK adults in 2021-2023?

  1. Optional for everyone, not required by any employer or for customers of a business to show evidence or "reasonable excuse" not to have had it

  2. Not compulsory for all, but health and social care employers can legally require the jab for staff who work with any clinically vulnerable; refusal would be permitted grounds for dismissal if jab not medically contra-indicated

  3. Not compulsory for all, but any employers allowed to require the jab for staff (refusal would be permitted grounds for dismissal); businesses allowed to require jab among customers, thus no jab = legally refuse service

  4. Compulsory for all adults without medical contra-indications

Sorry that was just terrible copy and paying that made my post hard to understand.

The first part was someone else, second was me.

I think 1 and I was objecting that the lady put what if...,.. as if we were too stupid to think about the consequences of our decisions.

Just out of interest, would those of you voting 1 be prepared to consent to a vulnerable loved one who is unable to be vaccinated being treated by an unvaccinated (by choice) hcp? Would you be happy to have them seated next to a coughing passenger on a holiday flight, not knowing if that person has been vaccinated.

Or should vulnerable people just be stuck at home for the rest of their lives?

Did you presume those of us who voted for one are too thick to work out what the World would be like?

Do we need someone of your superior knowledge to enlighten us 🙄

Piles of responses come back in saying “shit, never thought of that, change me to a 4 immediately” 😂

I get the flu vaccine each year (through being asthmatic) and have never even thought to ask whether any healthcare professional I have seen is vaccinated, despite knowing the take up rate for the flu vaccine is quite low in healthcare workers.

I cannot control what others do - I can only minimise my own risk as far as I can. I will never know whether that coughing passenger has been vaccinated or whether they are maybe in the category of being unable to be vaccinated. Same with the healthcare professional.

Should be 1 but I do anticipate that it will be 4 in order to travel or go to gigs
Festivals and so on.

Sorry see above! That post just came out all wrong! It’s half someone else’s speech.

I’m no.1

But if its going to be no vaccine no job/fly then that has to be whether by choice or unable to because of allergies etc? And is that not then a dangerous route to go down?

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 06/02/2021 21:43

I think it will become socially unacceptable to refuse vaccination, though

No 3 is a choice. I see nothing untoward with choices having consequences provided medical contraindications are respected.
Moneyfornothingkerbsforfree · 06/02/2021 21:46

In reference to becoming “socially unacceptable “
This thread seems to show it won’t. However that would be absolutely no problem for me. I don’t waste my time on people who think like that.

Seeing as 4 is giving people no choice, if we go by that we should also vacinate the people who it cant be for medical reasons.

It's only fair.

  1. No one has to have it but businesses that want to reopen safely should be allowed to require it. Your choice. If you
Had to have a jab to go on holiday take up would be high.

I don’t think you can assume all the voters who said 1 think it’s ok for people to choose not to have the vaccine.

In my view, people absolutely should have the right to say no but I think (exceptional circumstances taken into account obviously) it’s the wrong choice to make.

Probably, which is why people like me will lie about it.

It makes life easier sometimes, doesn't it, lying?
