That’s what I was thinking. I think the don’t exercise in open water was to reduce accidents to keep hospitals and ambulances able to cope so can’t see why it would need to continue.

110APiccadilly · 12/03/2021 17:29

Silly question (I am not a tourism business) - would they know where bookings come from? I guess you might have people's address if they've paid with a card, but lots of people use PayPal for online payments.

Sadik · 12/03/2021 17:33

I didn't know sea swimming wasn't allowed - lots of my friends have been swimming right through (not me, but that's nothing to do with the rules and everything to do with the temperature Grin )

Having said that they are all regular sea swimmers and I know have been staying really close into shore on very safe beaches, so I can't think that there was any risk involved.

Sadik · 12/03/2021 17:36

I'm disappointed for my dad that there's no mention of when organised activities might be restarting. He goes to a couple of groups usually and they were so well set up for safety and running nicely just until this latest lockdown.

We went to Brecon in the summer and the local businesses were asking to see driver's licenses or other proof of address, places might do something similar?

I'm not sure that governing by "he was naughty so you've all got detention" is a very adult thing to do. I forgot none of us can be trusted anymore though.

AlohaMolly · 12/03/2021 18:19

I work in tourism. We’re working an extra day tomorrow and having to ring people that have booked and ask them where they’re coming from and how many people are in their party, how many households etc. They could lie to us I suppose, but if they’re paying by card over the phone then we take their address and would realise then. You’d have to be pretty low to lie to us though really.

PuzzledObserver · 12/03/2021 18:26

Any steer on when indoor meeting will be allowed in Wales?

Doilooklikeatourist · 12/03/2021 18:47

@110APiccadilly we use Airbnb for our cottage , people have to request the dates , and we can check where they’re from that way
Back last autumn , we had a couple of sisters from Cardiff who offered to bring a utility Bill each to prove they were from Wales !
Unlike the couple from Swansea we refused to host ( they were in local lockdown ) and they tried to argue that it was only half an hour down the road , so it was fine ( 😱)

LoopyLockdown · 12/03/2021 23:44

Wondering if anyone can clarify.

I'm alone near Port Talbot. We moved here with stbxh job and I know literally nobody.
Husband left me fir another woman just before Xmas. I've been alone, literally alone, ever since. Up until now I've coped. It's been bleak and hard but I've done how managed but I'm starting to feel a bit desperate again now. Can I bubble with my parents in England (literally just over the bridge). Due to distance and petrol costs and my mum's health, it wouldn't even be once a week and in their garden or them coming to my garden. Literally talking an afternoon, no over night stays.

I know 1 person locally who is already bubbled with their shielding mum and sister and no meeting anyone outside the home.

I've been alone since December 3rd.

Can we bubble with Englush relatives??

zebrapig · 12/03/2021 23:47

@LoopyLockdown We're bubbled with DM, we're in England, she's in Wales. As far as I'm aware there's no issue with it, neither of us as been stopped or questioned at any point.

LoopyLockdown · 12/03/2021 23:51

Thanks Zebra. I've shut myself away with the shock of it all but feel ready to face people and just really need some real human contact. I just want my mum.

I might see if we get a dry not too chilly day and make the trip over then.

Lupinhere37 · 13/03/2021 00:19

@LoopyLockdown

How awful for you; so sorry to hear that. I believe you are allowed to have a cross border bubble. My DF lives over the other side to us and he is in our bubble. With the weather looking to start improving, perhaps you could make the trip.
Really hope that you are able to work out a longer term solution for you, so you’re not stuck there on your own.

QuiltedBear · 13/03/2021 07:52

@LoopyLockdown

From the gov.wales website: “ There are no rules at Alert level 4 specifying that your support bubble has to be with someone in your local area, or within any set distance of your home. There are also no rules preventing support bubbles being formed with households outside Wales, and we recognise that these may in particular be the right answer for people living close to a border.”

If you bubble with your mum you can see her indoors as well so wouldn't have to wait for a warmer day, though I appreciate you may be concerned about her health. You could always wear a mask and socially distance inside her house.

I've been driving over the bridge once or twice a week for work and never been stopped, nor do I know of anyone who has been.

Anyone know what's happening in Merthyr? Seems like a big rise there. 31 cases on one street apparently!

Swansea Road is an area of Merthyr, not just one street. That said it is worrying as I work there and am back on Monday. Schools have sent primary (infant clases) classes home already from the area - so it is close to home. Affected some colleagues.
CeeJay81 · 13/03/2021 15:58

@tinytemper66. It said one street on the BBC, so bad reporting there but it is still worrying of course esp for you. I was wondering if it was being picked up at schools. We have been lucky that my kids school hasn't had a single case yet. I feel for you and other colleagues having to go back to work in such circumstances.

tinytemper66 · 13/03/2021 16:16

I feel safe enough as I am secondary and can usually stay 2m plus away. We will be testing pupils in the older year groups and ourselves twice a week.
We were lucky before Christmas up until the last day the pupils were in, then some bubbles burst, so it didn't affect us as a school per se.
Fingers crossed luck will still be with us before Easter and after. 😊

Is anyone using their newly granted freedom this weekend? We went to Barry Island - so unbelievably nice to DRIVE somewhere, walk somewhere different, see different things! The fish and chip shops smelled so good too - sadly we had a huge takeaway last night so couldn't really justify it.

Not yet. Will wait until I have more time. Probably in the holidays as there is only 2 weeks left.
ArosGartref · 13/03/2021 18:49

Not been anywhere.

EveLe · 13/03/2021 19:02

Not been out today, but hoping to do a drive somewhere tomorrow for a dog walk - would love to do Barry Island for fish and chips on the beach, but its 45 mins from us, so not really "local"

Thinking of doing the Pit Pony or Scenic Drive instead if the weather is nice enough.

ImAllOut · 13/03/2021 19:11

We drove to get a McFlurry and sit enjoying a different view. The weather was a bit too changeable today for us or we would've walked near the spot we parked up in. Will probably drive closer to the top of a hill nearby tomorrow so our children can have a bit of a run in different scenery, and will see my parents in the garden for Mother's Day.

110APiccadilly · 13/03/2021 19:15

Not been anywhere this weekend, but hoping to meet up with a friend in the next village for a walk next week.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/03/2021 19:51

It's actually silly, but I had a bad night's sleep last night because I was a bit scared. I don't even know what I was scared of - just it's further than I've been in so long.
