Daily mail is reporting that we may be out of lockdown completely by the end of April with no restrictions. This is once all the over 50s have been vaccinated which looks set to happen.
This is great news.

@coronafiona

What about us under 50s (who will be funding this for the rest of our lives!!) I'm not going back out there until I and my children are safe!!
Hahahaha nobody is ever safe from anything, dont ever get in a car again theyre not safe

Anybody who thinks that the vaccination roll out going well means that COVID is nearly over is frankly a bit dim

There is no known strain out there that doesn't respond well to any of the vaccines.
So no it isn't dim (at the present time) to think vaccinations will see Cv become similar to other respiratory illnesses.

CV isn't sentient, it won't think "oh shit i need to mutate into a super immune vaccine virus" or "they've vaccinated the elderly, i better start killing off the young"

Every chance it will behave as other viruses we have vaccines for do, we'll also have vaccines that can protect against several different strains of CV.

@IcedPurple

Would be fantastic but didn't Chris Whitty say yesterday that the idea of having all over 50s vaccinated by the end of August - let alone April - would be 'optimistic'?
That's because Chris Whitty uses the word "vaccinated" correctly to mean "has been vaccinated."

The Daily Mail uses "vaccinated" to mean "has been given the first dose of two, and will now have to wait three months for the other one"

@LemonSherbetFancies

Definitely read it as all restrictions eased by end of April if the vaccination continue as they are
That may be what they are reporting, but it's nonsensical bullshit with no basis in reality.

I super duper hate lockdown. As much as anyone.

Is this thread missing the point?

If Lockdown is all lifted by end April, that would be because Covid had stopped causing huge harm. Isn't that prospect, that cessation of death & harm, what folk should talk about?

If you thought clap for carers was a bit naff, imagine the hyper-emotional street parties if covid stops killing lots of people.

You'd think,so,wouldn't you @lljkk
