End of lockdown by April

Daily mail is reporting that we may be out of lockdown completely by the end of April with no restrictions. This is once all the over 50s have been vaccinated which looks set to happen.
This is great news.

@User133847

I'd imagine a gradual phasing of restrictions by April, but still some restrictions through 2020. They wouldn't have called Glastonbury off recently if it was anything like back to normal by May.
But Glastonbury is such a huge event. We can be pretty much back to normal but have restrictions on event numbers still. I'd take that for the rest of the year if the rest of life was pretty much normal.
Lissy23 · 04/02/2021 19:25

I’m so hoping this is true and I can travel to see my friends and family who live in the south...haven’t seen them since July. We are in North West.
The thought of hardly any restrictions is a lovely one.

mootymoo · 04/02/2021 19:46

Unfortunately I think normal is wildly optimistic, but a return to how it was last summer perhaps

KeyboardWorriers · 04/02/2021 19:49

@Carlislemumof4 I have assumed since start of January that the schools will be closed till Easter. They certainly aren't even trying to suggest that all children will go back on 8th March

KeyboardWorriers · 04/02/2021 19:50

I think things will ease from Easter but it will be at least another 12 months before normality in some way resumes

coronafiona · 04/02/2021 19:52

What about us under 50s (who will be funding this for the rest of our lives!!)
I'm not going back out there until I and my children are safe!!

SendMeHome · 04/02/2021 19:56

Glastonbury had major issues getting insurance this year, sadly.

Don't then.
ktp100 · 04/02/2021 20:06

No way this'll happen.

And made all the more likely to be absolute bollox by being reported in the DM!

No one is going to force you flower, if you want to keep yourself and your DC holed up for the foreseeable crack on! Although it does beg the question were you ever "safe" from viruses beforehand? Especially viruses that have mild or even no symptoms in the younger and healthier members of society
coronafiona · 04/02/2021 20:09

We were safe from novel viruses because we had immunity. That's the point if a vaccination programme.

doubleshotespresso · 04/02/2021 20:16

@BonnieDundee

With Glastonbury is it not more that they cant make firm plans which they need to do NOW for such a huge event?
I think the biggest issue is getting the event adequately insured...
Scottishgirl85 · 04/02/2021 20:31

Remember that they need to start 2nd vaccinations soon, so the roll out will slow for the younger ages. I cannot see all over 50s being done by April.

Lavanderrose · 04/02/2021 20:33

Yes, the daily fail is a great & reliable news source. I can see that face masks, hand gel, and social distancing will still be in place for another year or so.

MRex · 04/02/2021 20:36

I would hope after first doses that all shops, pubs and restaurants can open. Also seeing family in small groups. I wouldn't expect much beyond that until it's all been tried for a while. By which time we'll be getting through second doses and finding out about the autumn booster programme.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/02/2021 20:39

@Sillysop92

What will people complain about then 🤣🤣

Honestly, I don't even have have the energy to properly reply to your stupid post.
user1487194234 · 04/02/2021 21:06

If people want to stay home then they can
But let the rest of us out and get the country back to work

ChocOrange1 · 04/02/2021 21:58

I would be happy with rule of 6 indoors and outdoors, as it was in my region last summer.

What I wouldn’t give a good parking thread or maybe performance parenting in a cafe.
SeldomFollowedIt · 04/02/2021 23:02

@Bedforme

We can but dream for those threads to return one day

TheKeatingFive · 04/02/2021 23:09

You were never ‘safe’ and the vaccine hasn’t been trialled on children, let alone approved for use, so you’ll be waiting a long time.

Hole yourself up if you want, no skin off anyone else’s nose what you do.

MarshaBradyo · 04/02/2021 23:13

It will fill up with those wanting lock down don’t worry ;
Beaniecats · 04/02/2021 23:17

@IcedPurple

Would be fantastic but didn't Chris Whitty say yesterday that the idea of having all over 50s vaccinated by the end of August - let alone April - would be 'optimistic'?
It's not all about what he says Thankfully there is pushback against him from within the Government
Bluethrough · 04/02/2021 23:21

@ktp100

Why not? DM aside!

Once over 50s vaccinated, that covers all the groups where 99% of deaths have occured.
So if they are correct and we've 75% efficacy and 65% less transmission (after 1 dose) we should see dramatic drops in hospitalisations etc.

I feel more optimistic about the future with every day that passes.
