10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

Does anyone have any ideas why we're down on last week's vax numbers? Snow?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 16:20

@buttery81

Thanks *@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum* - is that quote in reference to Pfizer, AZ or both?

And an update...

12,294,006 people have now received their first dose of vaccine!

It’s the typical lower Monday figure we were expecting - but fantastic that another 280,000 or so people have now had their first jab. I have my sights set on the big 13 now! Grin

🥳 wonderful number

Sorry it is in talking about the AZ vaccine but obviously the same applies to all the vaccines and how covid spreads in the body etc

@Level75 I know it's been reported in the news that some vaccine hubs were unable to open yesterday and today due to the snow.

buttery81 · 08/02/2021 16:33

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum well that sounds very positive, thanks for sharing!

Monday’s numbers tend to be the lowest, I’m guessing that fewer people want Sunday appointments and there are probably also more likely to be lower supplies at the weekend.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 08/02/2021 17:46

In other positive news today we had the lowest figures of 2021 for......

Cases
Hospitalisations and
Deaths!

Londt · 08/02/2021 17:51

Come on the big 13!

I know it’s childish of me but I can’t begrudge the snow for its interruption on the jabbing. It’s cheered me up no end to see the glittery white coating, kids building snowmen and having snowball fights, dogs being walked in their little jumpers and being able to follow my cat’s paw prints to see what he’s been up to Grin

(I hope everyone is safe though).

gingeristhenewblack43 · 08/02/2021 18:19

Ditto @Londt after 6 days of persistent rain and grey skies it has been a joy to have the snow, and the blue skies peeking through when the flurries moved on each time!

buttery81 · 08/02/2021 18:34

Yes - there were 14,104 infections (the lowest figure since 8th Dec!) and 333 deaths (lowest figure since 27th Dec) I believe.

I know it’s childish of me but I can’t begrudge the snow for its interruption on the jabbing.

I love snow normally, but can’t wait for it to melt this year so we can crack on at full pelt with the jabs. Dogs in jumpers did make me smile though! Grin

Thank you for this wonderfully positive thread. It's just what I needed to read

We've not had enough snow here to cause any problems and locally our GP surgeries seem to have been whizzing through vaccinations. My parents are in the 70-75 group and were jabbed on 20th Jan, all their friends and neighbours who live locally have been jabbed too. My friends who are NHS and police (in their 30's) have been jabbed as well. FIL who is in his 60's but CEV had his jab today. Just waiting to hear that they are into the 65-70 group next!

To all those who are vaccinating people or are involved in the process, thank you, thank you, thank you!

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum thank you to your husband for giving up his spare time at weekends to keep others safe, and thank you to you and your children for giving up precious time with him to keep others safe - these sacrifices are not spoken about much in the press but it's so important that they are recognised and appreciated Thanks (and also Gin!!)

CaveMum · 08/02/2021 19:50

Our local GP service has said they are having to postpone vaccinations at one centre for the next few days due to the snow/ice, though other centres are operating as normal.

They are also reporting that around 95% of all Group 1-4 have now been vaccinated in this area (100% (consenting) Group 1, 95% Group 2, 95% Group 3 and 92% Group 4).

buttery81 · 08/02/2021 20:09

Great updates @Eggsley and @CaveMum - thank you!

I was in another room while DH was listening to the news just now - it was saying the vaccine take up is much better than anticipated at the moment. I had a Google and found Matt Hancock's statement which includes that:

'as of midnight on Sunday, 91% of the over 80s had been vaccinated; 95% of those aged 75 to 79; and “almost three quarters” of those aged between 70 and 74.'

For the pedants, obviously this doesn't mean they've all had their second dose yet so no need to point that out. The point is it's a really good takeup rate.

Phenomenal percentages, thanks Errol.

Take that Covid!!!

(Lol, just kidding Wink)

Jab, jab, jab...

tobee · 09/02/2021 03:02

Hope younger population are as receptive.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/02/2021 03:37

Reckon a lot of people will want it because of their exposed jobs. Some to protect vulnerable family members. Some because the media have scared then.

Then the thought that other countries won't let them holiday there. Will change the minds of some more people. Whack it in a few love island prats and some footballers. That will help encourage more😂

Frazzled6 · 09/02/2021 09:02

I think the over 40s uptake will be high, the 18 to 30s probably the lowest uptake.

My daughters in the first year at uni and they have had several discussions about the vaccine and its very mixed opinions. She's a Biomed student so does try and relay how safe and important vaccines are.

Blessex · 09/02/2021 09:16

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum haha yes I think not being able to get to Mykonos without a vaccine note from the GP may well get a few more to have it!

buttery81 · 09/02/2021 09:19

Morning all! Looking forward to seeing the new total today. I’m hoping we get over the 12.5 million mark - and anything over 12.6 would be tremendous, considering the terrible weather... and the fact it’s only Tuesday! Roll on 4pm! Grin

Just another nugget of joy 🤩 My corner of London are inviting those in their 60s for their vaccines through the local GPs

What time does it normally get released. This thread gives me joy!

This is absolutely brilliant!! My dad is in his 60s, although he is Wales and they seem slower there but hopefully not long!
PilatesPeach · 09/02/2021 11:53

The numbers will be lower I think this week due to snow - ironically even where there is no snow, where snow was forecast but failed to arrive, my hub was very quiet because the over 70s did not want to drive in it so did not book in advance. We had a few flakes literally like icing sugar.
Some vaccinators were just waiting around. Very disappointing. Hopefully it will pick up.
