Are teachers getting invites for Vaccination?

I've seen a few posts now where teachers have been invited for a vaccine (outside of the given order stated by the JCVI ).

Has a decision been made to include teachers in one of the higher groups?

OP posts:

No change to priorities

But there is considerable flexibility over who to ask in for an 'end of the day' vaccine, so it might be that. Especially if there's a school close to the centre - just like lots of coppers get done when there's a police station over the road.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 03/02/2021 14:36

How about they prioritise people from the next group on the list?

Crazy notion obviously 🙄

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2021 14:37

Only if they’re in one of the jcvi groups being vaccinated at the moment.

AllAroundTheWrekin · 03/02/2021 14:37

No. I have only heard of SEN schools getting them so far.

Dahlietta · 03/02/2021 14:41

I'm a teacher and I haven't been called and am not expecting to be.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/02/2021 14:42

No. Out school is right by the vaccination hub and we have been asked to provide details as if there is any wastage due to occur from no shows we MIGHT be asked to go and get it to avoid it being thrown away.

herecomesthsun · 03/02/2021 14:42

Some are CEV and will therefore be called for that reason.

RosesAndLemonade · 03/02/2021 14:43

SEN teachers yes, in some areas (not all yet) but not mainstream.

WoWsers16 · 03/02/2021 14:53

I'm a teacher but also clinically vulnerable due to having cancer - I've just got given an appointment for mine x

bluechameleon · 03/02/2021 14:56

We got an email yesterday saying all special school staff are now invited to book. Got mine booked for next week.

majororminor · 03/02/2021 14:57

There have been some scam emails doing the rounds, apparently - they are not genuine. Only teachers in the highest vulnerability groups or providing lots of personal care in SEN settings are getting invited.

Skyppy · 03/02/2021 15:07

There will be many teachers who are CEV who are in group 4. Even more in group 6.

MrsMalcolm · 03/02/2021 15:25

2 local schools to me have been given a link and many of the staff have now been vaccinated. I am a RGN and know of colleagues that are waiting to receive it. Not sure the system works that well when patient facing nurses haven't had their vaccines yet and over 70s in the same area are also waiting.

Absolutely the right thing to do. Vulnerable teachers will get their vaccine sooner this way.
Pastanred · 03/02/2021 15:36

Teachers dont need to b prioritised as they are no more at risk as evidence has been shown to prove

given vaccination still requires you to isolate, it wont make a blind bit of difference in terms of staff absence

far more at risk occupations outside of NHS

I say that as a teacher myself

Pastanred · 03/02/2021 15:37

those at a higher risk will get their vaccine anyway according to priority order - not because they perceive their job to put them more at risk

yearinyearout · 03/02/2021 15:38

Not true. I have two friends who are teaching assistants in a special needs school, they aren't clinically vulnerable and don't do personal care but had their jab last week (as did the rest of the staff in their school)

mumsneedwine · 03/02/2021 15:40

Please look at the evidence that says teachers are no more a risk. As data was taken from March - October. For the majority of this time schools were not fully open. If you look at data from Sept to Dec as taken by TES then teachers are 333%!more likely you get sick.
It's stupid to think kids can transmit it more in community and not transmit it more in schools.

ExpulsoCorona · 03/02/2021 15:42

@Pastanred the vaccine will help reduce community transmission so even if teachers aren't at higher risk of being ill and even if they still have to isolate, they still come into contact with many many families so it makes sense to vaccinate to reduce community transmission.

Pastanred · 03/02/2021 15:44

recent worldwide studies have proven teachers are no more risk of dying

the vaccine committee have said vaccination is about reducing deaths full stop

Pastanred · 03/02/2021 15:45

Here explains why

Are teachers getting invites for Vaccination?
noblegiraffe · 03/02/2021 15:45

There was a link sent out by mistake in Kent and Leeds I think.

Some LAs are making individual arrangements for their special school staff.

Teachers in general are not being invited.

reefedsail · 03/02/2021 15:45

All staff in special schools in my area. We are going next week.

majororminor · 03/02/2021 15:46

OK, sorry, may have got facts slightly wrong and it's all staff in special needs schools, but it's definitely not staff in non-special schools unless otherwise vulnerable.

Pastanred · 03/02/2021 15:47

oh wrong link hang on...
