I know this is a really self indulgent post. So sorry in advance.
I'm worried about captain Tom. I know its ridiculous, I dont know him. Maybe because hes just a bit older than my dad would have been.
But I feel if he dies with coronavirus , it'll be the final straw for me. Hes been the only bright light in this.
If he doesn't recover I think I'll sink.

Other threads? The earlier ones were deleted for various reasons.

There has been at least one subsequent one

Bless his heart ❤️

No, threads announcing he has died in the last half an hour.

RIP Tom and all the other determined old devils. I include my old dad in that. A life lived well. Flowers

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/02/2021 16:20

It's sad to hear this - especially for his family of course - but hardly a surprise with a 100 year old gentleman who was already very poorly

Thoughts are with his nearest and dearest

Bouledeneige · 02/02/2021 16:21

I'm sorry to say it but I've just not really felt anything about him.

He's 100 and was going to die of something. Death is normal and a natural part of life.

HandsFaceSpaceHopper · 02/02/2021 16:23

Nice Hmm

Yes he had a good innings but it's still sad. Bless him.

I agree.
BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 02/02/2021 16:23

Aww.
May he RIP Star

GetOffYourHighHorse · 02/02/2021 16:23

It isn't a surprise of course but he had just become a mascot of positivity and triumph over adversity. It seems so very poignant and sad for him to have died at this time.

Does it matter how many threads there are, i mean so what really.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 02/02/2021 16:26

Echo derxa

A life lived well, a thrawn wee soul and a bit of a legend who has left his family with fabulous memories.

He made a difference.

RIP Sir.

Thirtyrock39 · 02/02/2021 16:26

I feel really tearful about this . He was a symbol of hope in the first lockdown
He had a long and productive life and will be remembered but it is still very sad and hopefully makes those who are dismissive of covid as killing people who 'would have died soon anyway' remenmber these are real humans with real lives and stories dying

Topseyt · 02/02/2021 16:29

RIP Captain Tom. A long life very well lived.

Thoughts are with his family and friends.

They are all titled 'Captain Tom'. I guess you just have to choose which one to comment on.Confused

That doesn't mean people can't feel saddened to hear of a person dying (especially when covid is involved at the moment) or feel for their loved ones left behind.

Both my Nanas died last year. They were both in their 90s. Whilst they had also lived lengthy lives it doesn't mean people, aren't saddened about it.

I'm sorry to say that I can't really understand why people feel the need to post such comments. If it doesn't bother you or you're not interested, is not just better to not post at all.

StCharlotte · 02/02/2021 16:39

Ah. I started one a minute ago Blush. I did look for others.

ssd · 02/02/2021 16:40

I'm just home from work, just heard the news . I thought that was a really nice statement his family put out. They must be so proud of him.

RIP Captain Tom.

RIP sir.

I hope the nation does not turn this into another grief circus like Diana.

So do I - especially as the family, in their lovely statement, have asked for privacy

It would be more than a little ironic if his funeral route was full of blubberers, all risking spreading Covid to each other

Yes but all those other people are still there. He didn't raise that money alone and he wasn't the only one who did so. Without good publicity and a willing audience he'd have been a lovely old man in the village who raised £200. It doesn't take away what he achieved to say that he isn't the singular opportunity for hope in bleak times.

Twistered · 02/02/2021 16:56

For some people though he was.

NonyaBizniz · 02/02/2021 17:05

Apparently British Airways gifted the family the holiday.
