Sore throat only?

loretta81 · 31/01/2021 16:35

Has anyone had just a sore throat and fatigue and tested positive?

I'm nervous to order a test with just these symptoms (technically I'm not eligible) but I have had a test and trace notification and I know sore throat more common with new strain.

Don't all jump on me! I genuinely have no idea if I should or shouldn't. Thanks so much.

I had it over Christmas and my earliest symptom was fatigue and sore throat. Doesn't mean it definitely is of course, but could be. It was followed by a very runny/ blocked nose. My DH went for a test (he had same symptoms) because he had reduced smell/ taste. I was shocked when it was positive. I had noticed a change kn smell but thought it was normal given my nose was bunged up.

skoobysnax · 31/01/2021 17:05

Yes exactly my symptoms. Get a test

Dinocan · 31/01/2021 17:07

Dh has just received a positive with only sore throat and fatigue. We were being super cautious as we see dm who said that apparently sore throat is common for the new variant. Never would have tested otherwise, assumed it was a bad cold.

Dinocan · 31/01/2021 17:09

I think they will need to change the criteria soon. They will never get on top of it with only those with temp/cough/loss of taste allowed to take tests. I don’t know anyone whose had those symptoms with it!

Seemingly the new Kent virus has this as its primary symptom.

I tested positive last week. My initial symptoms were sore throat, thirst, headache, and tiredness. Temperature was all over the place (probably a rubbish thermometer) so not sure about that. Not much of a cough to start with. Sense of taste and snell unaffected.

Husband also tested positive. He hasn't had any symptoms apart from a slight headache for a few hours.

loretta81 · 31/01/2021 17:33

Thanks everyone. Are you all ok? Did your symptoms get worse in week 2?

I would test especially as you have been a close contact of a positive case.

beakyboo10 · 31/01/2021 17:36

Just been tested today with sore throat and fatigue so no idea of the results yet. I also have horrible ear ache and sinus pain (prone to sinus infections). I went for the test as my toddler is isolating and off nursery due to staff having a positive covid test. My temperature is all over the place and like previously mentioned I think we have a rubbish thermometer.

Will have to wait and see what the results are and everyone else in the house is fine.

LunarSea · 31/01/2021 17:40

I never did get the 3 main symptoms you need for a test. Had to lie in the end to get a test because my SpO2 levels were so low, and breathing so difficult that there was clearly a problem. Then ended up hospitalised for a week. Which might not have happened if I'd not spent a whole week beforehand being turned down for a test as apparently not qualifying. And I wasn't the only one there who didn't get any of the three classic symptoms at all - staff were telling me that that they'd had quite a few in the same situation.

ETgo · 31/01/2021 17:46

I’m waiting on test results with the same symptoms - also woke up yesterday drenched in sweat. How long are people’s test results taking?

BarelyMerry · 31/01/2021 17:50

I tested positive last week with headache, muscle ache and fatigue. On day 8 today and feeling ok so far - still tired but aches seem to have gone. Had to say I had a high temp to book a test through the app - surely they need to widen the symptoms? Once you have tested positive the questionnaire on the app list a whole load more symptoms so why don't they allow a test to be booked with one or more of those? DH & I only booked tests as a work colleague of his had tested positive, otherwise we would have assumed we just had colds & could have been out and about spreading merrily!

BarelyMerry · 31/01/2021 17:51

Results took exactly 24 hrs to arrive

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 31/01/2021 17:51

You’ve had a test and trace alert and now you have a sore throat. Get a test.
The limited symptom list on the nhs website is really annoying me now as it’s so outdated and putting people off testing and missing thousands of positive cases!

ssd · 31/01/2021 17:53

Ds has tests with these symptoms and both times was negative

Figgyboa · 31/01/2021 18:18

Yes, you should test. I have covid and don't have any of the main symptoms.

starrynight19 · 31/01/2021 19:12

Absolutely , I just don’t know why they don’t update it. Especially as the new variant is presenting with different symptoms.
PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 31/01/2021 19:37

Exactly. I also got a negative at first even though I felt quite unwell but not the ‘agreed’ symptoms. I knew something was up so had another test 5 days later and that was positive.

AnaisNun · 31/01/2021 19:42

I’ve just tested my son because he has what looks like covid toes (very swollen, red, some purplish marks). Dr had said “chillblains or cellulitis” (?!) and prescribed ABs, as it was just one foot, but the other foot looked suspiciously blotchy along the side this morning so took matters into my own hands.

It’s not a symptom listed on the website, and it might be overkill, but I’d rather know for sure, than send him trotting back to nursery to potentially infect a dozen people.

skoobysnax · 31/01/2021 20:06

I had a bit of a cold and sore throat and it was all done by day 8

skoobysnax · 31/01/2021 20:07

If I hadn't tested I would have potentially infected my old mum who I care for

SpnBaby1967 · 31/01/2021 20:56

My first symptom was a sore throat, fever came a couple of days later, and tiredness hit about day 4. I was better by day 10 though.

WingingItSince1973 · 31/01/2021 22:13

Get a test. I tested Thursday and had positive result yesterday. I just had a mild sore throat but was sleeping like you wouldn't believe. Felt like I was coming down with something xx

Hollywhiskey · 01/02/2021 07:14

Yes my sister presented exactly that way and never got the classic symptoms.

RaggieDolls · 01/02/2021 07:27

My sister had a mild sore throat, fatigue and muscle aches only. Was better after day 4. She only tested because there was an outbreak at her work so they were all asked to test.
