“No onesies please as it makes the children in school jealous”

A message from the head of our primary. Please could all parents at home please ensure their primary children are fully dressed in day clothes ready for their class 9am zoom. No onesies. Apparently the children actually allowed to go to school are annoyed seeing their classmates lounging at home in onesies / pj’s / loungewear.

Ummm, I’m sorry, I thought I heard you issuing instructions on what I must / must not do in my own house. What possible authority does a school have to do this? Kids forced out of face to face education. Being shown some lovely examples of the artwork done by the kids at school over zoom with the caveat “oh don’t worry I know you can’t do this at home”.

Read the room ffs. Just another request to put other people’s children before my own. As it happens my primary child gets dressed of his own accord, but if he wanted to wear a onesie then quite frankly anyone else’s opinion can fuck off.

Physically going to school = uniform worn as per school rules.
Physically barred from school = my house my rules.

No doubt I’m overreacting but it annoyed me!

I have to say, getting children in the discipline of dressing before going into a video call with classmates seems sensible and reasonable.

Surely we need to prepare children for the adult world?

Are we seriously complaining about this?

TwelvePaws · 30/01/2021 18:10

I wore my oodie for teaching last Monday.

🙌 Best things ever invented. 🤣

WorraLiberty · 30/01/2021 18:10

Am I the one thinking MLM right now? 🤭😂

Oh I would laugh !!!!!

@mummyinbeccles Sorry you feel angst sending yours in. We would feel a lot less angst personally if ours could attend. They're eligible but no space at their school, they've done their own interpretation of guidelines to keep children attending right down.

RosesAndLemonade · 30/01/2021 18:11

Hun

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 30/01/2021 18:11

Also, please don't take your anger about not being able to send your child to school out on the school itself. It's tough for everyone but they're doing their best in an extraordinary situation

that's debatable.

What has been the most shocking of all is the difference between schools. I get the first month was a bit of a shock, but we are coming to a year. By now all schools should manage to be on the ball a little bit

Blessex · 30/01/2021 18:11

@RosesAndLemonade be very careful though. If you dare say you have some job that makes others feel inferior then that can backfire. Also don’t make an effort. Don’t put make up on. Don’t brush your hair. Don’t speak your mind. Don’t be confident. Don’t dare to be seen as outspoken. It won’t go down well. Good luck !

This thread turned out funnier than I expected!!

AlwaysLatte · 30/01/2021 18:12

This is always a topic that can cause emotion. February already soon - not long before the warmer weather, lower numbers and a gradual return to school. Thanks to everyone struggling with this.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 30/01/2021 18:13

@TwelvePaws

So many people saying their kids go for a shower in the morning then put a clean onsie on, well why not put some clothes on instead.

Because their onesie is comfier. 🤷🏻‍♀️

In fact I see you your onesie and raise you an Oodie ! 🤣🤣🤣

Their onsie is comfier than a jumper? Most are made with the same material. Going by this thread its surprising a lot of these children make it to school in normal times.

@Hotelhelp yep it did. And I would still love to understand you in real life.

Xerochrysum · 30/01/2021 18:13

Oops, my ds doesn't have live lessons, but sometimes does school work in dressing gown over clothes(comfy), or covered up in duvet on sofa. It's cold in our house.
I think in this situation, rather than telling parents not to wear something in their own house, it maybe better to loosen up uniform policy to let children wear normal clothes at school, maybe easier to wash to get rid of potential virus too.

mummyinbeccles · 30/01/2021 18:13

Ok. I can’t comment on that really as it’s all very cryptic.

Blessex · 30/01/2021 18:13

@RosesAndLemonade you are currently sounding like a jealous woman honestly

CoffeeWithCheese · 30/01/2021 18:14

@KinderWild

I hadn't actually realised that onsies are considered nightwear. My son wears PJ's to bed. Gets up, washed and dressed but sometimes chooses to wear a onsie mainly as it's lovely and warm Hmm
This - mine don't wear them to sleep in but they do chuck them on at home if relaxing and it's getting a bit cold. I do similar with an oodie - which I've no doubt would be a terrible crime as well.

Our school are generally very laid back about uniform anyway - it's a this coloured top, this coloured bottom, this coloured jumper and don't take the piss with it policy rather than requiring specific types of shoes, banning boots or the like or requiring 7 year olds to be trussed up like they're going for a day at the office.

Kottbullar · 30/01/2021 18:14

Mine get dressed every day. Can't bear lounging around In nightwear.
They do wear onesies though but they're tracksuit type onesies with hoods not pyjamas.

PuffItsGone · 30/01/2021 18:15

Totally reasonable request.

Very cryptic.

Of what?
I absolutely love my job (and my dress sense...it isn't to everyone's taste though I get that but I love it so I'm down with my bad self )

What am I jealous of? Your job? I don't know what your job is. But I don't like zoom calls or phone calls so I don't think id like to be calling lots of countries in one day. I'd hate that.

So nope. You jealous of mine? You wish someone would throw a soiled nappy at you or something?

RosesAndLemonade · 30/01/2021 18:17

Is @Blessex going to stop at any point does anyone think? Or will she only stop if I admit that I've a) murdered someone or b) told her I'm really fucking envious of her?

Olivess · 30/01/2021 18:17

My daughter occasionally puts her onesie on for her live calls. Not sure why not? It doesn’t affect her ability to concentrate and she’s comfortable. Personally I think school uniforms should all be leggings and a jumper/hoodie. Far more comfortable and practical.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 30/01/2021 18:18
@ComDummings thank you. I am in tears as a full time working mum trying to manage with two kids with posters calling me a twat
Aww dry your tears!

There's no one posting on this thread worthy of your tears. You don't sound like a twat at all. There are plenty of others who do

You're doing what you need to do, to get through, don't let stupid Threads/posters on here derail you. It's absolutely not worth it.

If you & your kids are coping ok - then that's all you need to worry about.

The lack of comprehension on MN has been getting worse year on year - it was perfectly clear what you meant in your earlier posts!!

Kids don't need to be in uniform 'to
Learn' they learn when they're warm & comfortable.

RosesAndLemonade · 30/01/2021 18:19

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants 'ang about! You seen what she's been saying to me??????
