I had no idea. Apologies if this is common knowledge.

Thank you so much for this - I'm CEV and have been able to book no problem on first try! There was virtually any slot I wanted, any time - which kind of suggests they need more over 70s and CEV to get booking!

Coldwinterahead1 · 31/01/2021 17:01

Thank you 😊

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 31/01/2021 17:10

Just booked my 73 yo father in (and yes it only lets you book if you are eligible, so definitely legitimate.) Thanks OP

Mysa74 · 31/01/2021 17:17

Thank you op, I've just booked my mum(72) with COPD in for tomorrow morning and 2nd for April. I'm telling everyone in the top categories!
This thread could save lives!

@Mysa74 I do hope so!

Just passed this on to my 73 year old neighbour who is still awaiting her letter. She was hesitant to try without the letter because of the advice on the NHS site but I think she's going to give it a go as like most she's very keen to get inoculated. I'll report back if she gets booked in.

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 31/01/2021 18:08

It's definitely fine - I have tested by booking myself in (Not eligible yet) and it won't let me....Just for absence of doubt I wouldn't have booked had it let me....

I think this is mainly as the post is absolutely pants at the moment so people who can book are genuinely people whose letters are "in the post"

Trickleg · 31/01/2021 18:10

If you press the back option on that site it says “only for use if you have received your letter”...

Yes, we know. But if your letter is somewhere in the system, still in a computer database somewhere, you can still go on and book. It won’t let you proceed otherwise.
familychallenge · 31/01/2021 18:38

Just another thank you- my over 70 diabetic dad had been shielding for best part of a year and has been watching his post with increased desperation. He's now all booked in for both jabs starting this week !

feedmepopcorn · 31/01/2021 18:42

I just wish they would change the wording on the website. It will put some folk off - especially if they're following the rules to the letter

efc1878 · 31/01/2021 18:55

Thank you, just booked my dad in.

efc1878 · 31/01/2021 19:02

He got an appointment for this week in a local medical centre, he’s 73

OP my 72 year old Dad had a bone marrow transplant a couple of years ago, is diabetic and has a heart condition. I have been so worried. He's now booked in for Wednesday thanks to you. I'm so grateful. Step mum is too. She's 72, but looks 50, vegan and runs about 20k a week so I have been less worried about her, but really glad she'll be protected too.

@feedmepopcorn

Is there anything 'official' out there which explains that it's ok to do it without a letter?

My PIL's are eligible but as they've not received a letter, they won't book in. They stick to the rules. But they'd be happy to book in if there was an 'official' link saying it's ok without the letter.

(I've tried explaining until I'm blue in the face that's it's ok - but they're not having it!)

PIL exactly the same, it says wait for a letter so that's what they want to do. They are worried about being accused of queue jumping or getting there and it all being a mix up Confused
itwillbehormones · 31/01/2021 20:00

I've just shared on Facebook and my local Nextdoor and already have 5 people saying they have booked and thank you so much!!

notevenat20 · 31/01/2021 20:02

@SilverGlitterBaubles

Could your PIL call 119 or their GP surgery? A number of people have done this to double check it's ok to book.

This has been posted on Gransnet, but has attracted many comments about “queue jumping” and “cheating”, so I’m not sure how many will try it. I’ve used it myself (74), and am booked in, although I have a bit of a wait until 12th February, but very pleased to get it. I might get a letter in the intervening weeks, with a closer venue, but not too bothered about that.
55larry · 31/01/2021 20:41

I booked yesterday and got an appointment for Wednesday. All days and times were free. Having been on Gransnet I am worried if am cheating as I am only 69 but I am diabetic. Should I cancel my appointment?

Bumbers · 31/01/2021 20:48

Thank you so much for this. DF and DMIL booked in. So happy! Have shared with friends. SmileFlowers
