I had no idea. Apologies if this is common knowledge.

Do any GPs know if there are plans for home visits?
My DM is disabled and never leaves the house. She thinks she is safe as she has effectively been 'self-isolating' for years.
But we've explained that we won't be able to visit as we could make her ill.
She would have the jab but only at home. Apparently a neighbour was told they could book a home visit but there is nothing on the NHS booking site.

Wigeon · 08/02/2021 20:27

@MrsDoctorDear - yes, GPs are doing visits to give the vaccine to patients who are truly housebound. You can’t book any appointment with a GP-run Covid service via that booking link though - the link is just for pharmacy-led sites and the big Vaccination Centres. GPs are doing all their own invites using their own patient lists.

If your DM is currently eligible, ie she is over 70 or clinically extremely vulnerable (being disabled isn’t necessarily clinically extremely vulnerable), then her GP should be contacting her imminently, or sir could give them a call if she thinks she needs a home visit.

If she’s not yet eligible, then her GP will be in touch when she becomes eligible.

MrsDoctorDear · 08/02/2021 20:32

Thanks @Wigeon she is 77 so I'll ask her to ring her GP surgery, she can let them know she would like a home visit when it's her turn.

Imbehindthemask · 08/02/2021 20:35

@gisbons

Thank you. I'll keep trying Smile

Home visits are happening.
Ring and ask

Oblomov21 · 08/02/2021 20:58

My mum still hasn't booked. I've now had my first ever heated discussion with her. She put the phone down on me. We are very close and she is the most mild woman. So I never would have predicted that she would ever put the phone down on me, in any circumstances. Ever! Sad

CoteFolie · 08/02/2021 21:06

Some areas have moved onto groups 5&6.

A number of friends, and neighbours who are in group 5 (65-70 category) have been vaccinated/called. Geography is West London, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

I'm in group 6 (on flu list) and have an appointment for next weekend in Yorkshire.

@MrsDoctorDear - it’s her turn now! They are trying to finish the over 70s by the end of the week! Can she definitely not leave the house? If not, hopefully her GP will already be aware she’s housebound.

@oblomov21 - why? Did you tell her what Matt Hancock said at the press conference earlier and that the vaccine booking link doesn’t say you need a letter any more.
cinnamonwhirl · 08/02/2021 21:27

There has been no discussion on home visits. I know a woman in her 80s who can't leave the home as age can't walk far. She can't be taken by car anywhere. She hasn't been contacted about a vaccination. I rang her Drs and they said that the Nurses would be doing home visits but she sounded very vague. No idea of timescale. Or how it would be arranged. I think this sector has been overlooked.

notevenat20 · 09/02/2021 05:31

@cinnamonwhirl. As I am sure you know, you just have to keep on them. You can tell them the govt promised over 70s would be vaccinated by Feb 14. Can you get the number/email address of the nurses or physically go and see them?

OP posts:
cinnamonwhirl · 09/02/2021 08:50

@notevenat20. Thanks. I will try and contact the nurses. It was hard enough to get through to her Drs surgery but at least I was able to confirm her contact details with the receptionist and they had it on their records that she is housebound. I can't walk into my own surgery now unless I have an appt booked by telephone so I doubt I could physically go to her surgery but I'll try again by phone and look at their website again. If they are only starting the home visits this week (I rang last week), they are a low priority - I assume because of resources.

Butterymuffin · 09/02/2021 09:22

@cinnamonwhirl I have a family member who isn't mobile and has significant care needs (this is well known to services, she has a care package) and her vaccine invite came through for one of the football stadium hubs. It's now been changed and she is getting a home visit. Don't know who was contacted to make the change. I can ask if it would help.

cinnamonwhirl · 09/02/2021 11:57

@Butterymuffin Thanks but no need to ask as I know she is registered as housebound on her Drs records and she will get a home visit. Just don't know when. Glad that your family member is getting a home visit. Maybe these are all taking time to do. It would be interesting if anyone is aware of someone that has actually had a home visit. Pushing back the date of the first injection means that these vulnerable people have even longer to wait for the second injection and the increased protection that brings.

Not just the over 70s|CEV but also health and social care workers can now book online Daffodil

Oblomov21 · 11/02/2021 07:37

NHS website still saying 'wait'.

Matt Hancock, in 5pm briefing, advised all over 70's NOT to wait. NHS website needs updating with current guidelines, before they do damage!

Everyone over 70 in England can now book themselves!
GlendaBulb · 11/02/2021 07:50

NHS website still saying 'wait'.

It’s saying to wait if you are not eligible. This comes after its statement that over 70’s are eligible.

If you try to book and are not eligible it will tell you.

AgnesNaismith · 11/02/2021 15:34

Bumping this because I’ve just had my category 4 vaccination at a national hub and there was only 1 other person there. They won’t go down the priority list until over 70s are vaccinated here.

Please encourage your relatives to get booked in!!! It makes a massive difference to those in lower priorities.

Good grief, what a waste of capacity. It is because they know the moment they open mass hubs to groups 5 and 6 the media will find a 70 year old whose letter got lost and there will be a big scandal that will take up the entire newsfeed for 2-3 days and groups 5 and 6 will get cancelled for several weeks.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9249063/Covid-vaccine-centre-standing-idle-rigid-NHS-priority-rules.html

Mass hubs are being underused. GPs are overextended and are refusing to code people in group 6 correctly because they can't cope with the numbers on their lists already, but people are not being offered vaccines at the mass hubs that do have capacity.

This is a big problem.

I’m 66 and have been checking daily to see if NHS website would let me book. Today it did, I’m having jab tomorrow at a vaccination centre (a full day of appointments were available), second jab also booked.

I am not clinically vulnerable and neither do I work in healthcare.

Spread the word amongst your peers @AuntieMacasar! Get them all to check and get themselves booked in as it sounds like your area has moved on to the next groups.
pinkhappy · 12/02/2021 17:24

To be fair, despite all this half a million people were vaccinated today. Could we really do more than that?

gisbons · 12/02/2021 18:10

@pinkhappy

Actually, yes. It’s been widely reported that there is a lot of capacity in the testing centres. We can do much more! So if you or your family members are eligible, please book them in.

Increasingly, 65-69 year olds have found themselves able to book online or with 119 as local areas move into group 5 vaccinations. So it is worth checking, it takes less than 30 seconds to enter your details.
