@bytheby

I'd much prefer someone vulnerable/old in another country to have a vaccine before me (healthy, thirties)
They will be getting it before you! So I wouldn’t worry about that. As a PP has said, it’s the developing countries that need to also have access to the vaccine otherwise this thing will continue to mutate elsewhere then enter the country again in potentially a more dangerous form.
Baileysforchristmas · 29/01/2021 08:10

The EU are going to check every order that leaves the EU, it will have to be signed off before it leaves. Canada has 40 million vaccines on order that are about to leave, how will that work? This is going to hold everything up for everyone. The EU put this in the media, why? Why didn’t they just sort it out with AZ? I’m sure there would’ve been a compromise, they now have made it a trade war, it’s a terrible way to behave.

randomer · 29/01/2021 08:13

Lets all go in playground and sing song We've Got a Vaccine.
Pathetic.

redsquirrelfan · 29/01/2021 08:13

@Justthebeerlighttoguide

Has the new Kent variant made it to the eu yet?.
Of course it has, it was sequenced in September.
redsquirrelfan · 29/01/2021 08:15

@Avondklok

British variant is now rampant in Europe due to selfish people travelling over Xmas.
??? Evidence for this? Who was travelling at Christmas? The borders were shut. Ski resorts were shut other than in Switzerland.

This comment is utter nonsense.

TableFlowerss · 29/01/2021 08:21

@HelloThereMeHearties

It's cheered me up so much this evening. I was feeling really down about this big AstraZeneca fight, and Sturgeon supporting the EU over it, and it was all awful.

And now - fantastic news!! Kate Bingham should be made a Dame!!

She’s a little twerp her!

Using a pandemic to her advantage to try and get Scottish independence. She’s pathetic and completely selfish for constantly pushing her own agenda.

Oreservoir · 29/01/2021 08:21

@Avondklok there were no flights to be had at Christmas.
I returned to the EU by ferry, no choice, and there were 2 lorries and 5 cars.

MsMiaWallace · 29/01/2021 08:22

OP remember MN is full of remainers so your bound to get shot down.

I think we should be dam proud of the vaccs.

speakout · 29/01/2021 08:23

And it will really wind the EU up!!!

Hmm
JayAlfredPrufrock · 29/01/2021 08:23

The EU can sort it’s own mess out.

I’d rather we helped poorer countries with our vaccines.

The EU didn't put this in the media. The first incling of trouble brewing was UK government 'sources' briefing the UK media that the EU wouldn't get any vaccines made in the UK until they'd got all their theirs. AstraZenica responded to this by publicly announcing that the EU would only get 40% of their order. Then the EU kicked off.

The expat forums I'm on were full of people figuring out how to get around the rules to travel home for Christmas.

Livelovebehappy · 29/01/2021 08:30

Oh dear. The EU will definitely be spitting out their dummies and throwing toys out of their prams at this news......

Yewrobin · 29/01/2021 08:33

Very few people seem to be mentioning the impact on the poorer nations of the EUs behaviour ... it’s coming across as being just aimed at the UK

Parker231 · 29/01/2021 08:34

Why do people not read the technical material. There is no point in the U.K. being vaccinated and not others as variants will just continue to mutate in unvaccinated countries and the vaccines not be effective.

It’s nothing to do with stupid comments of U.K. v EU. My parents are in Belgium where the vaccine is manufactured - they are unlikely to be vaccinated for months.

ChateauMargaux · 29/01/2021 08:34

I am dismayed at how all of this is playing out. It makes me sad and despair of what the future brings.

I hope the vaccination programme brings down the death rates and fast.

The death rates per million by country do not make for comfortable reading. The rates in Belgium and the UK are very high.

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 08:35

Great news

KB made good decisions, she was explaining how U.K. got such a high amount for a relatively small country

Frazzled2207 · 29/01/2021 08:35

@Wishitsnows

I am so impressed by UK pharmaceuticals. I didn't know how world leading they were.
Novavax is an American company and it was designed in the US
atotalshambles · 29/01/2021 08:35

It is pretty wonderful news for the UK and elsewhere. All this is making the EU look pretty awful (and I say that as a remainer). It is really important that the richer countries help the poorer countries to gain access to the vaccination and it isn't just the richer countries fighting over access.

Baileysforchristmas · 29/01/2021 08:36

@FatCatThinCat it was in the media before that. German newspaper from a German government source.

Parker231 · 29/01/2021 08:37

Vaccines urgently need diverted from the U.K. and EU to the poorer nations. One of them has only received 25 vaccines !

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/01/2021 08:38

This is brilliant news! The issue is, can it be scaled up though as it’s made from a protein so differently from the other vaccines.

Baileysforchristmas · 29/01/2021 08:39

Anyway I think this is going to blow over and a compromise will be made now, it could’ve been handled so much better without all the threats and media involved.

And it will really wind the EU up!!!

Pathetic response - millions dying from a ghastly disease with our own country having at least 100,000 deaths, but hey, we Brexiters have stuck it to the EU.
