@Avondklok

Honestly. I give up with Daily Mail reading idiots.
Ha! Honestly, I read the Economist thank you.

We in the UK have done nothing wrong.

While Europe were playing politics and the French and Germans were negotiating WHO would be producing and who should get what - we just got on with it and put in an order. We paid full price three months before the EU FINALLY stopped their egotistical Willy waving. Then the EY came in and placed an offer that had lots of stipulations on it - such as we will only pay if the vaccine gets passed - whereas we paid full price no matter what.

Then when European citizens lost their shit as the uk was getting vaccinated and the vaccine was approved and worked the EU all of a sudden wants it.
Now they are mobilising legislation to take it from us.
Not even elected officials. And they are attempting to steal vaccinations from our people because they’ve spent so much time in bureaucratic bullshit that they’ve let down their own people.

FOJN · 29/01/2021 08:48

Both sides are as bad as each other in this mudslinging.

This is a very disingenuous comment. Boris Johnson has said very little apart from stating he hasn't ruled out exporting vaccines to the EU. The EU Commission however, not content with being the architect of this cock up are machine gunning shit everywhere in the hope none of it sticks to them. Apportioning blame in a crisis is rarely productive but the truth is the commission are actually making things worse rather than working to correct their mistake. It's a problem for all of us both in terms of rising case numbers and deaths in European countries and the threat to the stability of the EU, not to mention the fall out for the global vaccination effort.

What has U.K. said?

maliciousgossip · 29/01/2021 08:49

This new vaccine will not be available until the second half of the year. Sad

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 08:50

Government that is

Fortunately they have been restrained and said calming statements

Calmandmeasured1 · 29/01/2021 08:50

If it is approved Novovax won't be rolled out in the UK until the second half of the year:

Livelovebehappy · 29/01/2021 08:50

This isn’t about Brexit? Surely you can be a staunch remainer, but still see that the EU are behaving like petulant arses over this issue.

Parker231 · 29/01/2021 08:51

It’s nothing to do with U.K. v EU. Delayed Covid vaccines for poor countries will leave Europe vulnerable for years - both U.K. and EU.

IheartJKR · 29/01/2021 08:51

I have no doubt in my mind that after the British government due their duty which is to ensure its citizens have the vaccine - that all our efforts as a country will be mobilised to making sure we do everything we can to help our European neighbours and the rest of the world.
The EU officials behaviour is a total disgrace right now.

IheartJKR · 29/01/2021 08:52

What has U.K. said?

The UK has behaved with dignity and done absolutely nothing wrong.
Livelovebehappy · 29/01/2021 08:52

iheartjkr 100% agree with your post.

They should have placed their order sooner then....
Parker231 · 29/01/2021 08:54

@IheartJKR - the U.K. has been greedy. It has reversed enough vaccines for three doses for everyone. Thankfully the drug companies have agreed to divert over 60% of the vaccines to poorer countries.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 08:54

The mighty incredible eu has 27 other countries, packed with expertise to pull on for its mutual benefit.

There is no way I would want our aid and expertise going there, they don't need it, we need to support countries with few resources.

Parker231 · 29/01/2021 08:55

@TableFlowerss - they can’t - they are poor countries and this will affect the U.K. for years.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 08:55

@avonklok was that 300 million not also for the doses? The uk didn't het theirs for free
I think its right the eu should be peeved at aZ if they can't deliver whats promised but only they know contracts
Uk had issues at beginning as well
No one can produce as fast as we need
I do not agree on being like ha we have another one stuff you attitudes , the novarx if approved is great news for the world Z
We need as much supply of working vaccines as possible so we can give to as many as possible all over the world

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 08:55

You do realise when they ordered them we had no idea if they would work

Hence a portfolio

Your view of U.K. is so poor it must be hard staying

Agree. Although if I was the EU I’d be mightily pissed off that I wasn’t getting as many jabs as I thought I was
cathyandclare · 29/01/2021 08:56

The UK has spread its bets to maximise the chance of success and paid much more pp than the EU and USA into Covax.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 08:56

Greedy?

No prudent, because vaccines get wasted, lost in transit...

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 08:56

Parker also look at Covax for relative contributions

mylovelydd · 29/01/2021 08:56

Us and them, us and them, us and them.

Are people in the EU not just like you and I?

Give it a fucking rest with the anti -EU bullshit. Hmm

We are talking about people's lives FFS. People just like you OP. It's revolting how fast people turned to the "I'm alright Jack, fuck you" stance.

RedToothBrush · 29/01/2021 08:58

@ramblingsonthego

The UK signed up for 60 million doses in August last year for Novavax. In December 2020 the EU were still negotiating for Novavax. So they can get to the back of the queue again.
It amazes me just how many ignorant offensive and downright appalling comments there are on this thread.

Just to point out a second time.

Novavax is being made in Teeside. It is also being made in at least two plants in the EU.

Its bloody great news for everyone.

mylovelydd · 29/01/2021 08:58

@Peregrina

I couldn't agree more. This thread is vile!
