There's another vaccine! And we've got 60 million shots! And it's made here!

And it's effective against the new UK variant!

And it will really wind the EU up!!!

Novavax has passed its stage three trial, now hopefully the MHRA will approve it!!! Grin Grin Grin

I was about to day UK gov are quiet and Astra zeneca boss gave a calm rebuttal.

I don't think crazy thread titles on MN count for much in international diplomacy and trade spats.

EasterIssland · 29/01/2021 00:21

Thanks @GreenPlum

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:21

Over, we've got bigger problems than covid if the eu doesn't sort this out yesterday.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:22

The EU are being just as bad. Protectionism and infighting while people die.

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 00:23

The defence of the EU heavy handedness against AZ is bewildering.

They are presumably scapegoating AZ to look like they are doing something.

Shaniac · 29/01/2021 00:26

Honest question, wtf is it with brits hating everything british and sneering at patriotism and implying every other country is superior to their own?

Where im from people proudly fly their flag and celebrate any acheivements the country does. As does every other country i have lived in... Except england. Scots talk about things they are proud of ditto the welsh and irish, but it seems everything england does has to be bad. Weird behaviour.

This is a huge acheivement, your country should be damn proud about it.

SaraGilbert · 29/01/2021 00:30

So we've got billions of vaccines and we don't have to share!

Seemingly, we don't care if none of these vaccines provide adequate protection against the South African variant and that more lives may be lost unnecessarily.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:30

I'm proud of our scientists.

I'm not proud of gloaty nationalistic zeal which delights at other peoples misfortune.

wuwubaba · 29/01/2021 00:32

I think the EU officials have a lot to answer for.

One crucial question: why dint they placed the order earlier, instead of dithering about.

If i was an EU citizen, I will be questioning what these pen pushers are doing.

Waspnest · 29/01/2021 00:32

I haven't seen gloaty posts by MPs but then I'm not on Twitter. I have actually been surprised by how cabinet ministers seem to be towing the government line.

Who gives a shit what the Daily Mail thinks? People buy it because they agree with its views (apart from my DDad who moans about it all the time Confused ) not because they wish to become more informed.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:33

And 100,000 deaths along with some of the dreadful mistakes is nothing to be proud of.

This country has been saved by the NHS workers, the logistics organisers and the scientists. I'd put the politicians lower on that list.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:34

Yes unfortunately the usual suspects have been posting bile.

Shaniac · 29/01/2021 00:34

Controversial opinion i know, but i think britain has every right to gloat currently.

The eu and remainers (originally me included) tried to imply the uk would fall apart and suffer without the union and that the eu would make life difficult for the uk as punishment for leaving, hence making deals difficult and refusing to play ball.

Now the uk have done something tremendous and the eu are not happy about it. I think thats calls for a gloat. If the eu were that arsed about their people it would have approved the vaccines 3 months ago, paid more and made a start. Its not the uks fault the eu is spectacularly failing its people right now.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:35

Over anything gloating is bad in any situation, unfortunately during brexit the jibes and remarks emitting from the eu have led many people to the point of feeling gloat ful.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:36

Can't you see we will also pay for any problems? New variants coming right back over the Channel.

Gloating isn't constructive.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:37

And it pisses off the young who are rightly worried about their jobs.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:37

Probably not too great for the union either. So much for being one country.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:37

Shaniac agree but imagine the fall out for us with all that instability

RedToothBrush · 29/01/2021 00:37

Novavax is to be produced in Teeside. And at least two plants in the EU.

Its great news for everyone.

BioNTech have got the production lines for Pfizer back up and running after a week. It was supposed to be a month. So that should take pressure off.

Its great news for everyone.

Waspnest · 29/01/2021 00:38

Honest question, wtf is it with brits hating everything british and sneering at patriotism and implying every other country is superior to their own?

To be honest I find this just to be a MN thing. I know nobody in RL who holds this view, we tend to think that the UK is good at some things, shit at others but we're perfectly happy living here. And the people I know from other countries living here seem to feel the same way.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 29/01/2021 00:43

It’s just amazing how it’s one rule for the UK and one for the EU.

Some of you lot would be singing a very different tune if the roles were reversed here.

If your morals are dependent, not on what happens, but on WHO is doing what, they aren’t morals.
They’re just tribalism.

‘We should all share together’
Ha fucking ha.
When we were low on ventilators, not ONE of you were suggesting the EU share with us.
It was all ‘we’ve made our bed, we didn’t order enough in time, our citizens are suffering and we only have ourselves to blame’
Now it’s the EU who didn’t sort out their admin in time, now the tables have turned and it’s all ‘We need to sort all of Europe out, and share and all be in in together as it will affect us all’

The hypocrisy is astonishing.

Why the U-turn in opinions? What do people gain from consistently painting the UK in a bad light? It’s honestly mental. Really embarrassing actually

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:46

Like any other country the UK does good things and bad things.

100,000 deaths and mistakes leading to them - bad
Vaccinations - good

The EU is the same - good and bad. Why do you think the UK is all good? It just isn't the case whatever party is in charge.

Shaniac · 29/01/2021 00:50

The EU is the same - good and bad. Why do you think the UK is all good? It just isn't the case whatever party is in charge.

No one has said the uk is all good. They are just trying to bask in some rare glory of their two vaccine successes.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:51

Over, we have not been spoken to like any other country though, we have been told that repeatedly that we are a teeny inconsequential (but worth about 6 other eu countries put together) trumped up outdated piss pot that will regret leaving the benevolent Arms of the eu.

This is why people are gloating?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:52

And it will really wind the EU up!!!

Uncalled for.
