It's very good news.

However I can't stand the anti EU, English nationalism in this country and especially our pathetic tabloid press.

This is a virus affecting the world. If another country goes unprotected then it affects us as it makes us vulnerable to new strains. Just for once I would like the English nationalism and any other nationalism in other countries to disappear and see the world cooperating.

HelloThereMeHearties · 28/01/2021 23:57

@WhiteLittleDots

It's the EU that people should be angry at

Why? Because the mass media are trying to rile us up over a non-event. It's a tedious contract dispute/political hot air and the press is trying (and clearly succeeding) to get people frothing over how horrible the big bad EU is.

If by "trying to rile us up over a non-event" you mean "quoting and filming EU officials and national leaders" then sure, that's what's happening Hmm

@Avondklok

Quite. AZ have contractual obligations and that's it.
You can repeat this as much as you like but it doesn't actually make it true.
Confuzzlediddled · 28/01/2021 23:59

My DD was in the novavax trial, she's excitedly waiting for unblinding now so she knows if she's actually had it!

WhiteLittleDots · 29/01/2021 00:00

Well, I guess the fact that you think those two things are mutually exclusive explains why you're so easily manipulated by the media.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:00

Coffee, I never said I didn't want know if it was in the France, I wondered if it had taken hold there yet, however if they can't trace the virus like we can, how would they or we know?.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:01

The problem is over, the eu, continent is a pretty large place for it to be running rampant?

wuwubaba · 29/01/2021 00:02

Contractual obligations aside, bearing in mind that we are in the midst of the pandemic, surely anybody with an once of brain can see that it takes time to produce millions of vaccine. This scaling up operation is what the AZ warns the EU, but obviously they know better.

This whole shenanigans just smacked of panic blaming. The riots coupled with the higher rate of UK vaccination leave them with no choice but to start throwing false news and accusations in the public to shift the blame towards UK or AZ but EU.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 00:04

Wuw exactly!

They have got major problems on their hands!.

Waspnest · 29/01/2021 00:04

I don't think it's bitterness. When I think back to the absolutely horrific Brexit threads on here, so many posters were saying 'give me one reason, just one fucking reason why anyone would vote leave' it is sooooo tempting to say 'here's your reason'.

And this situation gives me no satisfaction really. Whilst I think FU EU, I have friends working in Germany, two of my dearest friends are from France and E Europe and still have family there so I hope they all get vaccines.

But I totally understand the maybe childish reaction towards the EU.

GreenPlum · 29/01/2021 00:04

@DrMadelineMaxwell

Isn't this new one a single dose vaccine too. One shot and you're covered!

No. Two doses, 21 days apart.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 29/01/2021 00:06

It is completely stupid to demonise the EU. One day we may really need them, and they are our closest neighbours.

Viviennemary · 29/01/2021 00:07

I was furious a few days ago when I saw a headline attempting to trash the Astra Zeneca vaccine saying it was only 8% effective and wouldn't work in the over 65s. Great news for all those over 65s who have had that vaccine. Not. Then there was backpeddling much. The EU didn't even get round to approving the AZ vaccine.

namesnamesnamesnames · 29/01/2021 00:07

I've been feeling very bleak about Britain lately, over the last few years. This news, on top of vaccinations going so well and the Oxford vaccine has brought some of my pride back. We have an incredible scientific community here.

I hope also that there is a generation of budding scientists out there feeling inspired.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:08

They have got major problems on their hands!

Which means we all have a major problem as the virus knows no borders.

Shaniac · 29/01/2021 00:08

I have no idea why people here are trying to defend the eu and saying they just want their contracted supplies.

How is trying to discredit the vaccine in the press with false statistics claims to try and make the uk jab look bad, not a personal thing? A vaccine they still havent approved for use?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:09

I hope also that there is a generation of budding scientists out there feeling inspired.

Daughter is a fourth year scientist. They are all just worrying about getting a job in this chaos.

Shaniac · 29/01/2021 00:11

The eu are the ones trying to demonise the uk (and i say that as someone whos parents are eu citizens and i my self was born and raised in an eu country). Macron and his blockade on lorry drivers including his own citizens deliberately stranding them and offering no help and blaming the uk.

The fishing fiasco.

ktp100 · 29/01/2021 00:12

Yay! Let's all change our SM profile pics to union jacks!!!

Eye roll.

EasterIssland · 29/01/2021 00:13

Back to the thread related with this vaccine ... does anyone know what the vaccine requirements are ? 1 or 2 doses ? And storage ?

Waspnest · 29/01/2021 00:13

Maybe. Which is why it's really good that the UK government is currently staying neutral. MN doesn't speak for the UK as a whole.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:14

Both sides are as bad as each other in this mudslinging. They should cooperate to get all of Europe vaccinated as we will drag each other down otherwise. Follow the science.

GreenPlum · 29/01/2021 00:16

@EasterIssland

Regular fridge storage.

2 doses, 21 days apart - at least, that's what we had in the trial.

Waspnest · 29/01/2021 00:17

I don't see either the UK government or AZ slinging mud.

Have you got a source for that?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/01/2021 00:19

Yeah - lots of gloaty posts by MPs' and snarky 'our EU friends' comments while meaning the total opposite. As for the tabloid press....

AZ seems very professional.
