BBC report EU impose export controls. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55860540

FitzsimmonsMarvel · 29/01/2021 16:07

@Fieldofyellowflowers Their response was to demand that we gave them our supply instead of keeping it for our own residents. yeah that’s not what happened

EmmanuelleMakro · 29/01/2021 16:12

Well done for highlighting the fab news OP!
Regarding Germany’s Health Service -it id that -a service and run efficiently with a mix if state and private facilities.
Jyst imagine the squeaking and whining if we tried to do the same.
The mythology of the ‘holy NHS’ is what has held back modernisation and reform hence the current situation. This should really focus people on reform - its not ‘underfunding’ -money had been poured in -it is just not fit for purpose.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 16:17

Emanual I agree on the NHS, it needs cross party special committee and lifting out of politics.

itsgettingweird · 29/01/2021 16:19

@Parker231

The EU have released extracts of their contract and have said they will provide more. If the U.K. wants to defend their position they need to do the same - what are they hiding? We are only seeing one side.
The contract isn't between the EU and UK.

It's between the EU and AZ. This is private not trade contracts.

The EU are trying to bring politics into it and imo UK politics are best keeping their heads down and mouths shut atm.

Another adding agreement to this.

What position does the UK need to defend? The UK isn't a party to this dispute. It's between the EU and AZ.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 29/01/2021 18:08

@FitzsimmonsMarvel

What did happen then? They want the UK AZ supply to be diverted. That suggests that it is ours, it is coming to us but they want it diverted and to go to them instead.

I don't know why they are getting in such a strop with the UK. It actually has nothing to do with us. The dispute is between them and AZ.

Blessex · 29/01/2021 19:11

@Fieldofyellowflowers it’s because the LAST thing the EU need is for the U.K. to look competitive and good just after Brexit. It doesn’t reflect well on them.

Blessex · 29/01/2021 19:12

They then accuse us of ‘starting a war’. Couldn’t make it up. They cannot get over that we have left. And I am a remainer now seeing the EU in a different light.

Separately, EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders ramped up the rhetoric further by accusing the UK of starting 'a vaccine war' and accused Britain of showing 'a lack of solidarity'.

'The EU commission has pushed to co-ordinate the vaccines contracts on behalf of the 27 precisely to avoid a vaccines war between EU countries, but maybe the UK wants to start a vaccine war?

'Solidarity is an important principle of the EU. With Brexit, it's clear that the UK doesn't want to show solidarity with anyone,' he told the BBC.

Blessex · 29/01/2021 19:13

The irony is they wanted to control it all to avoid war and in the process are causing all out war.

Shock fuckers! Ex remainer here too

We shouldn’t and won’t rise to it. But really

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 19:17

What they really meant was

We were slow and messed up

And U.K. is making us look bad.

Exactly! The whole thing reeks of sour grapes, I'm afraid.

We DARED to leave and having left the UK govt (against all odds, it must be said), has scored a MAJOR win within a month. I bet that's going down like a bucket of cold sick in Brussels.

I get the feeling their leader wants to stay out of this one. They have brought their own vaccine anyway. Plus will have two different manufacturered there.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 19:57

So do we know if EU citizens are falling for this smoke screen? Well other than the odd journalists or politician. What do the regular people think?

zafferana · 29/01/2021 19:59

I bet they are! The UK was supposed to FAIL and fail MISERABLY after it left the EU - it was all supposed to be doom and gloom and regret ... except, when it comes to vaccinating our population we're doing better than they are ... and not just a little bit - a lot!

Blessex · 29/01/2021 20:00

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum I am speaking to my french, Spanish, Italian and Dutch friends and family. And the blinkers are off according to them.

What are their feelings? Are they angry at the EU, the UK, AZ? Or not?
