Not taking children out daily?

Reading another thread it seems we should be taking our kids out everyday, I don’t do this, mine don’t want to go out every day, they would never want to just walk around the estate (we live in London and not a nice part!) there is a local park but they’ve been to it one million times now so no longer want to go, I haven’t taken them out for a while now (I don’t go shopping) is it bad to not take them out everyday? I can’t imagine getting dressed to just walk around a housing estate! What does everyone else do?

9, 8, 6 and 3

We don’t go out every day especially if it’s wet. Home schooling takes up a lot of time so there’s not as much choice of when to go out. But we do aim for every other day at least and look at the weather forecast so we can try to make sure they go out on the good days. And have longer trips out at the weekends. If they don’t go out enough they go a bit stir crazy and drive me up the wall.

Well its a tough time of year, we have been naturally hibernating, however I have made a promise from this weekend that we will force ourselves to get out....fresh air looking at long distance things!! Moving the muscles in the body ....

A 15 minute walk a day should be sufficient. Too busy with work and homeschooling to go out for any longer on a weekday.

Do you have a garden?

My little girl is 2.5 and I always make sure she goes for a quick walk even if it’s just around the block. As I think it’s important to get fresh air especially for younger children, I’d never get her to nap/ sleep otherwise!

I don't have to home school, which I imagine makes things really hard in terms of schedules and work load and getting out. But I have a four and one year old. I take them out every day no matter what the weather. Even for a short walk round the block as without it they'd be bouncing off the walls! Although it's sometimes a struggle, I have found it is really beneficial to my mental health too.

Ive got a 2.5 year old and yeah we go out for 1-2 hours every day, she'd be bouncing off the walls otherwise. Sometimes when she's doing a half day at nursery I don't take her out but I know she'll be outside for a couple of hours at nursery.

Our school workload is pretty full on so I’m happy if we get out every other day at the moment, with an exercise vid off YouTube if we don’t go outside. Always try and get a really big walk /bike ride in at the weekend if possible although last Sunday they played in the snow ⛄️

My don’t bounce of the walls if they’ve not been out?? They seem fine tbh

We got out every day. I think it's very important. I would go stir crazy if we didn't leave the house. Kids are like dogs and need walking everyday. Mine anyway!

We go out everyday. He's only three but needs the exercise and time away from the tv.

We probably stay out for an hour, plus the 20 minutes walking to and fro

Honestly if you find it stressful don’t put extra pressure on yourself to go everyday. If the kids are happy at home/ in the garden then that’s fine.

I don't take mine out every day at the minute
Normally we would be outside for some reason or another most days
It's very trying doing anything at the minute

We live somewhere reasonably pleasant. The kids are absolutely sick of it. There's only so many times you can see the same things... (It's also quite small)

He doesn't want to go out sometimes, but I encourage him to, and he always has fun once out.

I don't want lockdown to make him lazy. I would hate to crest bad habits for the rest of his life although I appreciate this may be a bit of an extreme worry.

As long as they're getting exercise at home, and having time outside in the garden, I think it's fine.They do need exercise and vitamin d though.

The thing is if we lived somewhere nicer I guess we would go out more if you have loads of lovely parks etc near by but it’s literally a housing estate and my children wouldn’t want to walk for miles aimlessly

Mine are older - 10, 12 and 14.
I’m out at work and DH is WFH. Kids are all doing school in the day - online lessons so need to be present at the computer ok teams/zoom etc. DH also has to be at his computer/phone.
By the time I get home it’s late afternoon, normally raining and cold and getting dark. It’s time to think about tea etc so mine can go days without leaving the house!

Mine go out daily. They’re crouched over laptops all day and then want to sit on the sofa for the rest of the day.
I think it’s really important that they move their bodies.

2 and 3 year old here. I try to get outside at least once a day (even if it's just a quick walk round the block) but it's more for my sanity than anything else
Lately they've been enjoying playing with some warm soapy water and washing some toys outside. That passed an hour this morning and yesterday morning haha.

No during the week it’s impossible. It’s dark by the time they’ve finished and need two of us to take them out and due to the cancelled exams my husband is back to working 15hr days.

3 and 2 year olds here. We are out everyday no matter what. They'd go mental stuck inside all day and we'd all be tearing our hair out by 4pm!
